Quite liking this promo. From 45 cities Ive already won $275.

Still yet to get a N.American city though. Are other people finding these ones rare?

I was thinking about the odds on this promotion. I came to the conclusion that it is a reasonably 'fair' promotion so long as you get enough points to collect a few hundred tickets. Below that, its value is a bit less. Here is my reasoning.

We can assume that Party is not planning to lose money on it, so the prizes will be a fraction of the value of the party points. A dollar rake is worth two points, so each card is worth $5.

The money is divided between prizes for cities, countries, and continents, plus about $50K for freerolls and point prizes. We don't know how they divide it, and what fraction of the $5 goes into prizes. I would guess that city prizes will be the largest tranche, followed by country prizes, and continent prizes the lowest tranche of prize money.

City prizes are simple enough - every ticket you get is an equal chance at the city prize fund, even if you only get one.

Country prizes are the interesting bit. Prizes range from $75 to $1500. Probably the biggest ones are the rarest. Let's say the average country payout is $300.

Let's say Party is paying $0.50 per ticket (city) on country prizes (of course this is no more than a guess). Now a country is four tickets, and high volume players are trying at all countries, so they will take the 'prize fund' per 4 tickets as $2. Let's assume they control payouts by making one city very rare in each country.

How rare? Well, they have $2 coming in to pay prizes worth $300 (average city) so only 1 ticket in 150 can win. For each 'rare' city, four tickets are winning, so there are 600 tickets for the other three cities left unused, or 200 of each. So 'rare' cities are on average 200 times rarer than 'common' cities. [These are the commonest of the rares, rare cities belonging to high-value countries will be rarer still.]

So to get a country, we need to collect a rare city, and this city is 200 times rarer than a normal card. There are 54 normal cards, so each rare city has only one chance in 10000 of coming up when you get a card (but there are 18 of them).

If you get a rare city, you have three more cards to get. With reasonable luck, they will come in about 100 cards or fewer (I couldsn't be bothered to work it out exactly, though it's not too complicated.)

Conclusion: if you will get a few hundred cards, the game becomes a raffle for rares, because if you get a rare you will already have completed your country or you soon will. So once you get this many tickets, your profit per ticket will be close to that of high volume players who will get thousands of cards.

Continent prizes will probably be the preserve of the high volume player. However, I would guess that only a small fraction of the prize fund will go into these.

Obviously all the figures are nothing more than guesstimates, but if you disagree you can plug in your own.

i think the third city of each country is the hardest to get.

in the third slot of the chart i got only 1 city so far. in the other 3 slots ive almost all cities.

besides italy all the countries where i need one more city, the city i need is in the third slot.

Anyone else have Mods that busto every time you restart computer? Trying to figure out if that was party update related or just my computer sucking

Looks like that. I have eleven cards, and nothing in the third slot yet.

This has implications for small-scall grinders who won't get a lot of tickets. If it is confirmed that only the third column is hard to get, then if they hit a city in the third column they should consider upping their grindage in hopes of getting a country prize.

Seems that if a SNG is running with seats open, you can click on the "seat open" button in the mini view and appear in the sng for a bit...

Another weird one I found since the update: if you try and sit in a (SNG) seat at the same time as somebody else, instead of the old "this seat is already taken" dialogue you get asked if you'd like to join the waiting list.

Yes, I also have this, it's extremely annoying.

It's not related to a computer restart, not for me at least. I copy the modded images, then exit the client and after a period of time I find them replaced by standard Party images. Haven't figured out how long it takes yet, if I restart the client in a couple minutes the mods are still there.

Of 67 cities I got so far none of them is in the third column, so I'd assume it pretty much confirms it.
Therefore if you get one of those, grind out the monies

create a batch file to copy over your directory of modded images to your partypoker folder, use the instructions in this link. Then if you add:

START "" PartyGaming.exe -P=PartyPoker

as the last line in the batch file, save to desktop, and just run it in place of your partypoker shortcut, it'll insta-copy across your mods, then open partypoker, automatically every time

for those of you who haven't found them yet, those new session options are available on the upper right hand corner of your tables near the table stacking buttons that cause me to timeout on all my tables when i accidentally click it.

also, here's a near irrelevant tip for party poker: on promos like world domination, if you're going to bother giving the promo flavor (like conquering cities) make the interface show you what you're doing. when i reveal new cities, it should tell me which cities i just got, rather than make me look through the chart every time. there was a lot of fun potential for this promo that was just thrown away due to execution.

Got a question about party email support, do they send you an email confirming that they got your email? I sent them an email (to verify my account details) like 3 days ago and haven't gotten a reply or even any sort of confirmation which is kind of annoying, the email is in my sent folder so obviously it went through.

http://www.partypoker.com/contact_us.html you need to call using the toll free numbers at that link to get ID verified, they (paypro.com, who sort out ID verification, separate to party support, who do send an acknowledgement email and reply quite quickly to everything else) can sometimes just never reply to emails.

i sent 5 emails over 2 weeks to paypro, and party support to ask them why paypro was being slow, got no response, then i called and it was done instantly

Got 10 cities so far, but already got a column 3 one (Milan). OTOH, only $1 and 1 freeroll ticket .

2 days of 1k points, ie the max. So far I got 60 cities, the 12 cities I need are all in the third column. I have Mexico, Columbia, Italy, Sweden, China and India. So no continents yet, altho I only need 1 city to get Asia.

From the $1k MGR I have so far won $1544 and 60 partypoints (=$12 or $15). Either I have been silly lucky, or this promos is silly juicy.

I wonder if Party ****ed up the math on the probabilities. It is after all decently complicated and I doubt they have that many PhD's in probability theory on staff. Including the regular value from the partypoints I am around 200% RB the past two days.


BTW it seems the cities are distributed much faster than Party expected - which makes sense considering the hike in traffic. IIRC the promo started out with a little more than 2.1 million cities to be handed out. After 2 days we are down to a little more than 1.9 million cities and saturday is even the lowest day in the week traffic wise. By this pace the promo will be over quite earlier than expected, maybe even before August 1st.

I agree, it is a little disappointing. At minimum they should have recycled the virtual scratch card code from Card Rush. Still, the prizes are big enough to retain interest in the promo!

By the way, all the cash prize cities are in column 1, and all the freeroll cities are in column 4.

you have been pretty lucky. i did almost 1k points both days and dont have a single country. made $108 so far.

edit: and you need one more for asia worth $5k. not bad after two days.

BTW, given that there is a limited amount of cities that is going to be handed out, I wouldn't be surprised if the actual distribution of the cities is predetermined. E.g. there may be a couple of cities that only occur a few times in the entire 2M+ population. If that's the case, it seems not unlikely that no one will ship the $100k.

I've only got 69 cities but 2 of em are Rome so you're looking good for the $250!
