1>3>>>>>>>>2 imo.
Seems to be the overall consensus with people I've talked to, I will go that route and deposit it in Cali today sometime.

Thanks

Isn't it more dangerous taking such a check to a check cashing place? I mean, if it bounces, YOU can be accused of fraud (ie: possibly accused of knowing it was a bad check). If it bounces, you are still stuck, aren't you?

It would seem best to take it into a CU or bank where you have established a good customer relationship. Of course, if it happens a few times, that relationship might be tarnished?

Yes. i tried a check cashing place but they wouldn't cash it becuase the check wouldn't scan and they call the number on the check and no one answered. They just wanted to verify the check but no answer.

+1 Its not even about the relationship, its about theft or the appearance of theft. If you deposit a check into your own account and the check bounces its not really a big deal. You never took the money, it is easily retrieved. If you give a check cashing place a bad check and walk away with their cash you basically have stolen from them even if it wasnt your intent.

Take compilers advice and just deposit it at your bank, give it some time to clear if you dont have the funds to cover it. That is the better play.

Will do I wasn't really planning on it. Was just curios to see if they cash them. is

Is it official that you have to have made a deposit by Western union OR the other money transfer service to receive a cash out in that form?

When can I "breathe easier."?

Deposited check on Friday the 30th (almost a week ago).

So far, I've heard nothing from my credit union.

It sounds like about 90% of the "bounces" become known in less than a week, but then many of you learn of a bounced check after 2 weeks.

Am I correct?

(Once I am satisfied that my check went through, I plan to do another withdrawal.)

Fees are ridiculous and it isn't an option for most players.

Is there no way to know for sure whether the check has cleared? Surely the checks that are bouncing a month later had been "cleared" by your bank and were available as funds to withdraw? Or did it really sit for a month as pending?

Just because your bank makes the funds available doesnt mean the check has cleared. The minute the ATM sucks in my checks my bank makes the funds partially available and no one has even seen the check yet. The funds are then always fully accessible the next day but Im under no illusion that the check has actually cleared.

It sucks that checks can bounce weeks later but it happens. Usually if there is a problem it becomes apparent within a few days but thats not always the case unfortunately.

5th:

Yeah, that was an earlier question of mine. When a check bounces, does it usually occur within a few days?

Tomorrow will be 1 week since I deposited my North check in my CU
