Right now Blom is probably the guy that holds the most interest within the poker world so he is providing coverage of what the public want within the industry he is employed to work. What ever you think ethically just read a ****ing newspaper in how we report on celebrities, sport stars, politicians etc. Why do people think poker should be any different?

Just a theory... Let's say Viktor Blom outs that he is the one and only Isildur1 as suspected and has evidence to prove it. Perhaps he goes broke and decides he would like to be in the lime light, get a nice sponsorship deal, and be a poker god essentially. Obviously he could get sponsored by any site with a fat deal. But now the Swedish government comes after him. Do you think he would be wanted on a large enough scale by poker sites that they would be willing to pay the large lump some of money that he owes to the government? Then have him move and change his residency to (America, Monaco, England, Canada etc etc) where he could escape the Iron fist tax laws that Sweden has on the big name poker sites and basically live his life out as an icon. Possible?

I dont know how many times I have to say this. There have NEVER been a case where the swedish goverment have taxed on every pot won, which would mean in Isildurs case $20m++ on the fact that he probably won a bit over 50% of the hands played against durrrr and something along the lines +- a few % in the other games. In durrrr games alone they probably exchanged 4-5 times the total winnings. So... either they choose to tax him for this, and basically can't take a dime from him because the bill would be so ridic it aint even worth starting.

OR.

They tax him for his winnings by the usual 35% as they always apply on swedish pokerplayers binking/winning big on US sites. Oh wait, he is - on FTP.

He would never get taxed for his rampage on FTP... So if he outs himself the worst thing he have to do is get a new screen-name in case he starts winning.

With this in mind my sole reason to believe he wants to be anonymous is that he got no desire at all to stand in the spotlight, he hangs with his busto(and robusto pokerfriends), partying pretty darn hard from the pics ive seen(clothing being $400 shirts etc.) with some upper scale champagne in gothenburg.

I mean, how ****ing bad can it be to have gazilions, be 20 and rumoured to be "isildur1" ?... Im sure he gets all the manlove he wants by gossip alone and the girls are probably wetting himself by the fact he is a good looking TALL boy with expensive clothing and a big wallet and a ****ing insane by swedish standards apartment.

Yes, what Lana_Long says fits in with everything I heard. Please people, stop repeating the tax story as if it was the magic answer to everything, when it likely isn't an issue at all.

Blom just doesn't want to be a celebrity. He has got what he wants - money and balla lifestyle. He doesn't want to have to give a bunch of interviews and have his life opened up to the public on top of that.

He isn't the first poker player to have this attitude. Chris Bjorlin I'm told is also keeps a low-profile despite his successes over many years.

A 2+2'er at his table asked him until when he was staying in London and Blom replied that he was in town till the highroller event, so i guess he's playing.

Someone wrote that 99% of Blom's "value as a sponsored player would come from the fact that he's Isildur". No way. Just the way he played in WSOPE, running over the table, overbetting frequently and showing big bluffs, makes him interesting. Add the Blom story ($1500 to $2M to almost busto to comeback etc.) and he's pretty damn interesting. I'm saying that VB could be a valuable sponsored player even if Isildur never existed. Sure, him existing makes VB a hell lot appealing.

Slight OT, on fame:
I for one don't have fame in very high regard. In many cases it's nearly impossible to lead a private life once you've been been in the brightest spotlights. A private life is cool, you know. Being able to walk on the street and not being recognized, knowing who's your friend for who you are etc. Many young people go to Big Brother and other reality shows or do something similar for the sole purpose of becoming famous. Many pay to become famous, I'd want be paid (big) to become famous, as it's a burden.
Not that I've ever been close to being famous and turned it down.

When I was railing the WSOPE main event near the upstairs bar Greg Mueller was sitting next to Blom with Greenstein on the table. Ivey was taking breaks between hands to watch the Saints NFL game right next to me where I was railing and Mueller comes over and tells Ivey that Barry (Greenstein) is in a big pot with Isildur.

So the pros don't refer to him as Victor or Blom. He's just known as Isildur.
