I had a chat about this with a nice Swedish poker journalist. He told me that Blom is really not shy in terms of talking to people. I saw myself he always became buddies with the players he was sat next to at the poker table. But he just has no interest in becoming a celebrity. His interest in poker is quite pure. He wants to play the game, and he wants money too, but he doesn't want to become a public figure.

The Swedish journalist pointed out that Blom would not be the first poker player who didn't want any publicity. Chris Bjorlin, he said, had similarly tried to keep a very low personal profile.

It's only a development of the last ten years that if you want to be a high stakes poker player, you're expected to also agree to have a media profile. And it shouldn't be surprising that not every player is happy to go along with this.

Yeah thats so true. He is obviously people friendly but he dosnt want the poker stardom, and thats very good. I wouldnt want that fame either becuase then fake people develop in your life. One day you have 35 good friends and the next you have 50,000 good friends, some which you've never seen. I wouldnt mind appearing on televised events but as far as interviews or strategy videos, not my thing. Blom is an incredible player, person, he seems like a nice person, and I dont blame him. Thanks to you, we go to see that side of Blom, not the side the media writes down.

I wonder if there's anything in the WSOP contract the players sign that obliges them to give interviews if they're on the TV feature table? I know they have no image rights, and no rights over any material shot during the event or how WSOP make use of it, but I guess they can't be obliged to talk.

Blom will have had to be escorted to the cage anyway to pick up his payout, so he won't have been able to walk straight out of the casino.

It was pretty funny how he jumped out of the light as soon as it was turned on. Vampire? Also he's really tall. Thanks for the vids.

Yeah the people who run the coverage and interviews don't care about how players feel after they bust deep in a tournament, they just want to continue making their free reality tv show that the players provide for them. I'm sure they felt like they had some kind of leverage to coerce Blom into interviewing and I love thinking about what they must have felt like as he walked off and they came to the realization that they have no leverage at all.

No, he didn't, apart from one time early on I asked him his chip count and he told me.

I was a few metres away when I filmed him walking off stage, using the zoom on the Flip device I was using. But yeah, I did step back at one point.

Apart from the £33k he has to collect from them... Though would they ever really withhold it if - by not doing interviews for the official WSOP crew - he'd broken the agreement he'd signed up to?

Damn, if Blom isnt Isildur1 ill give him props for running one sick line and getting a whole bunch of hype for not actually being the guy. The way he is playing it makes it seam like its him and everybody wants it to be him. Well played sir if your not him.

I'm presuming the answer is no. But what would happen if he made the November Nine and still wouldn't give interviews?

The gist of what I'm asking is, is there some level of poker tournament where a player's participation is contingent on them agreeing with interviews?

Blom clearly knew he had to put up with being photographed and videoed, and posed with all the other players on the stairs at the start of Day 4. But he just won't talk.
