Reuters: Full Tilt Poker, Pokerstars and Absolute Poker charged with illegal gambling Reuters: Full Tilt Poker, Pokerstars and Absolute Poker charged with illegal gambling

I've seen it said, here and elsewhere, that it's only money laundering if the activity in question (in this case online poker) is in fact illegal, and thus if online poker is shown in court to not be "illegal online gambling", as alleged, then the money laundering and bank fraud charges fall apart. I suppose we'll see if that argument holds up in court. It does make sense that if the activities for which the monies were used were in fact legal, then the hoops they had to jump through, to get banks who were unsure of that legality to process their transactions, were not illegal money laundering but rather simply a bureaucratic nightmare the companies had to endure in a climate in which the law itself was unclear to the general public.

Don't have a clue what you mean tbh. I can click on withdraw, get the usual list of options. No clue what this 'select' button is lol.

So I think what you are saying that stars decided to keep taking players due, at least in part, to representations from their player pool.

That seems perfectly reasonable if you take the line that the act doesn't cover poker...and I certainly feel that it shouldn't as I can see the difference between "our game" and everything else.

However, I am questioning the wisdom of then proceeding after having identified that the only was to keep taking players was to undertake an activity upon which the law was much clearer.

How many players prior to this week knew how they were doing it?

Ok..well I guess this is key. Anybody actually know?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't something covering knowingly using incorrect transaction type ids though at least.

If you are an American online poker player and you go to Vegas or Reno, then you are a ****** and deserve this.

Poker rooms are not money makers for B&M casinos that theory makes no sense.

If you mean US players ofc they all knew the transactions were tough and being done with a veil of secrecy lol, just look at the relevant threads since this bill was enforced. Recreational UK players will ofc have had no clue I mean we can use any debit or credit card we want on stars and it will say pokerstars on our bank statement, whole things easy. Serious UK players will have known the USA facing sites were circumnavigating some US laws in processing some financial transactions for those customers.

European players can't withdraw either from PokerStars?

Now I think about it, I guess it was there to be seen. Being in the UK I didn't think about it too much like you say.

Now it's in my face though and it obviously doesn't look so clever now. I was always too results orientated however.

PokerStars bought the license to be allowed in Estonia. All the other sites are down, but Pokerstars.ee is still running, hmm.

Right. Casinos just put the cardroom there out of the goodness of their hearts.

You can, but it doesn't get approved, just "pending".

Shady? How about the people that added the unlawful internet gambling act to a port security bill?
Standard practice in America? How many laws are attached to other bills each year?

I'm not from USA but I cannot acces my Full Tilt Account. I get a message that an update is available, I click OK and then I get announced that the update is unavailable so I have to try later. Does anyone know what can I do in order to solve this? Thanks.

does anyone know if theres a way to get to the my promotions page for a US player still standing on full tilt, it'd be nice to turn my medals into something more substantive if possible, but obv the link in the lobby doesn't take you to anything since its through the .com
