None of the three stories tonight mentioned poker. Has the segment been put off yet again?

no it's not.

~1% of the population suffers from gambling addiction.

Vegas was built by organized crime who knew the only winners in the games were the house. Initially they catered to the high rollers and the average Joe, specifically the soldier who would pass through to get to west coast in the average class. The high rollers provided them with desert while the average Joe was meat and potatos. It is still that way but not much catering to the average Joe. To those who say it's skill - if that were the case you wouldn't have new winners appearing. The same ones would continue to win and take the big money since they have the skill. I don't care how skillful you think you are when you think you can beat the cards you're wrong. If you get the cards you'll win, if you don't you lose. You may make a few plays and steal a pot a few times but in the end - no cards, you're out. If you don't believe this ask the poker "pros" who are eliminated by the "lucky amatuer". Casinos make money because the odds favor the house in all games. In this case how much free advertising and how much rent do they make from all the poker tournaments? A piece of the action is what they are after.

quite possibly the funniest thing i've ever read

That doesn't say a whole lot. A bar owner doesn't need to know that 7% (or whatever) of the population is an alcoholic since most of his patrons drink. He needs to know, of his drinkers, how many will become problems (or good for business ) for any meaningful data.

Of all poker players, far greater than 1% are degens, obv. Also, the 0.6% is for Britain and locations such as Nevada are 6% of all residents, and not just of those who gamble. The figure for the US is closer to 3% of all adults.

I'm pretty sure they would've had desert whether the high rollers showed up or not.

FWIW, we were told it would air 'sometime this week'. I'll post in here when I hear anything closer.

Mark

Edit: Blaine says he's been told tomorrow (Monday) but he wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed back to Tuesday.
