What's standard to get preferential treatment in seating for 5/10NL or a 20/40 limit game?

When I was at the head of the line, before I questioned the empty table, he just said, "Feels like a $275" and if you didn't want to play a $275 ... Keep waiting. There was no organization, no order to lines, people were cutting in, and inventing new lines at the cage and the guy behind me got really upset because people were cutting in line ... it was mayhem. But eventually I got up to a window, handed them my cash .... and then proceeded to my table, where of course i got coolered right away. A5 against my AK.

Seemed like a total waste of my time, but I may be biased.

About 2 minutes later he looks at me and starts singing "Grease is my friend, grease is my friend". I asked him why he was singing that and he told me he made $200 the other night and if I want the $525 to go sooner I need to take care of him.

Someone else told the supervisor but they didn't seem to care. Just giving people a heads up on what to expect at the Rio satellite area - just amazing.
You should report him...floors at the wsop can no longer accept tips of any kind.

Diamond card holders getting put on the top of the list in cash games is official policy, right there in the live action rules pdf on their website.

The guy running the satellite podium is not a floor, he's a board operator. Notice the red polo shirt. I believe they can accept tips but I'm not 100%. Refusing to do his job unless he's tipped is way out of line if that's really happening. OP was talking about a list with only 4 people on it though, not a full group ready for a table. I'd want to hear more examples of it happening before calling the guy crooked.

They do skip people ahead on the buyin line sometimes when 8 or 9 people are already on a table and that last person or two is holding it up.

Dealers do not share tips with anyone - what we get (which is sometimes only $5-10 for 3 hours work) is ours.

lol @ anyone saying "that's just how things work in vegas". The guy's a Rio employee and was asking for a bribe. Not a "tip", a bribe. Vegas may not be mob-run anymore, but the culture of corruption is alive and well. There's no place for nonsense like this anymore.

Confirmed, even the cash game floors cant accept tips this year. Which is a good thing of course, this whole tipping for every little thing mentality is a joke.

I spent a night out drinking with a good looking friendly bartender who says that $250 dollars a day is a "bad" day and would average much higher. Im pretty sure they could pour well over 200 drinks a day and tip is usually 1$ a drink.

You mean to tell me because of tipping culture. This bartender earns more a year than a nurse or a teacher?
Yeah its ridiculous.

+1

I`ve only been to Vegas twice, 3 weeks twice during WSOP. Probably tipped more during my stays in Vegas then I`ve done during my entire life in Norway all together lol.

Me and my friend thought the dinner was excellent at the Country Club in Wynn. So we tipped 10%, thinking we were generous, but soon found out we were 2 lousy, cheapy norwegians.

The only way we could get into the best nightclubs without waiting forever was by tipping the bouncers. $50 got the job done.

I`m by no means a baller, I book my holidays mostly through hotels.com and look forward to the 10th night every time (which is a bonus night

But the next time I`m going to Vegas, I will start off by tipping the taxi guys at the airport, follow up with the 20 dollar trick and keep having tipping money available at all times.

In a vacuum I can see that this pisses you off, but if it really does, I don`t think Vegas is the right place for you.

It's supposedly the world cup of poker, so it is pretty damn badly run...and this is one example. I, for example wouldnt have even understood that the dude was looking for a tip. If he started to sing, I wouldve just thought that old man is tripping, not probably listened to the lyrics. Not a native speaker. My point is that its an international event and the satellites are really good for poker, so this is pretty shameful.

That sounds all fine and dandy in theory but the reality of the matter is that we are going to take this guy's livelihood and throw it in the dumpster.. He tried to weasel a tip outta the wrong NVGer. 2plus2 **** YEAH!!

It's unusual to see players post on 2p2 saying that higher rake is no big deal.

Not that good a job anyway. Feels the need to perform/beg like a common bum in the alley just to get by. I mean, they have it so rough the casinos can barely keep up with the turnover and stay staffed.

I doubt anyone in this thread passionately wants him fired. They just want to play in a game with out paying hidden rake fees.

I haven't posted in the thread but I read OP and I'd like him fired. There are so many people out there unsuccessfully searching for jobs that it seems ludicrous to keep people employed who go out of their way to do a poor job

I too would like to see him fired but I want his boss to tell him if he were holding a $100 bill in each hand his hands would be too full to sign the termination papers.

Very well put, I am sure he would have a different perspective on the other side of the the transaction.

The guy OP described has the exact attitude that makes vegas so much less appealing that in the 1980's and 1990's. It used to be a hotel staffers mentality to do the little extras and take care of people in order to earn a tip and make the extra money they want. Now so many employees have the mindset that the tip is built into the overall experience like The waitress/diner dynamic in american restaurants. Ironically if guys like this actually hustled and really pushed the games and took care of the players they would make a pretty nice sum in tips. We all know poker players for the most part are far more generous tippers then the average person.

Some people know this, but the Rio doesn't exactly get the best of the best to staff the WSOP every summer. At some poker rooms there are people I will tip if I just see them in there, even if they're not dealing at my table or flooring my section, because they do a great ****ing job and make my life better by improving the conditions everyone is playing in.

Guys like the one described in the OP are what you should expect at Rio, or any CET poker room. Those places are universally toilets, and it's unfortunate that the WSOP is in CET's hands. Can you imagine how much better everything about the WSOP would be if a decent outfit ran it?

So if you paid for a ticket to a movie and the projectionist wouldnt start the film until everyone sitting in the theatre had passed around the hat and greased him a bit, youd be cool with it because it happened in Vegas.
