This usually happens when money gets involved. Whenever someone comes into a lot of money, friends begin to act differently and many new "friends" show up out of nowhere.

If one of my real friends did something like this, they would probably fall out of my "friend" category.

Probably put the message up before going to the police, and has taken it down 'til they sort it out.

Total douche move by the "friend" though. I'd say leeches are one of the biggest issues young, extremely successful poker players face
