I thought everyone knew that checks are passive. Joe should have bet or raised instead.

In the UK and Ireland we call them "cheques"

Think my pop still uses them though. Haven't heard of anyone under 55 ever using them mind you.

Meaning you saw that Cada had discussed his friend stealing his checkbook on Facebook?

If so, I apologize to OP

Depends on the country. I think checks are still widely used in France, for example.

Point is there is nothing unusual about having a checkbook in the US. Almost everyone does. Get over it.

LOL this topic just goes to prove how many basement kids we have on NVG.

Checks are standard to anyone who has a life.

it's better to not have a checkbook if you're not going to look at your statements for 4 months

ditto for debit, credit card, etc...

"If you're my friend, why you gonna put me on blast like that Joe? How you gonna do me like that? That is not cool at all what you did announcing that on facebook. Can you spot me 50k? You know I'm good for it" - Joe's friend.

correct. I saw that this was Cada's fb status. It has now been removed. No clue if its true or not, but that status was 100% up there.

In b4 "I own, I don't rent". Most people under 60 do rent and most landlords don't take credit cards (could be wrong, please let me know). They'll take your cash if you're stupid enough to give it, though.
I'm guessing you've never heard of online bill pay? A few clicks, and whomever you owe money to is either sent a payment electronically, or issued and echeck?

I still have a checkbook, but very rarely use it.

You probably don't rent property or own a business, then. Or own a house and have landscapers and maids to pay. Or do a lot of the things that adults do.

Checks are a PITA but necessary for a lot of people until a mainstream alternative is up and running.

Actually, now that you mention it, I do:

-- Own a business
-- Own a house
-- Have landscapers and other contractors to pay

A mainstream alternative has been up and running in the USA for about a decade. It's called online bill pay. It's amazing to me that anyone uses checks for anything; educate yourself.

The bank will even issue a check for you if the individual on the other end doesn't support direct payment via eCheck.

LOL at checks!

I'm from the UK and if i went to a shop and popped out my chequebook i'd probably get laughed straight back out of the shop. Honestly dont think i have ever used or received a check in my life

+1, people in this thread who write checks on a regular basis are just hating on people who live in 2010 and have discovered online banking.
