Really? I wouldn't think so at all, especially when drunk. Is it clear whether he was even conscious? Anyways, I nearly drowned once and it was quite ethereal.

Perhaps I'm wrong but i don't think you've considered all of the possible ways that people die (including the most common ways which are far more horrible/painful than drowning).

hadnt really heard of him until seeing the news, but watching his interviews and videos he seemed like a really nice and peaceful guy

Idk what's wrong with me but this totally ruined my day. Normally I would turn on the news and there would be dozens of people dead in way more disgusting fashions, murdering, airplanes missing and I'd just fire up a session like nothing. But now I'm all depressed from the death of some guy I didn't even know!

Has this been confirmed by his friends? The part about giving his jacket and phone before leaving? That sounds planned and makes it sound like less of an accident.

edit: I know that he didn't have these items with him when he left, I'm just wondering if it was a deliberate act, as in "here's my phone and jacket." before he walked off. This is a very sad story and my thoughts go out to his friends/family and those who knew him. RIP.

i lost a friend earlier this year and there was a lot of foul play speculation and then i realized for the first time how big of a difference it makes to the people who love him whether the death was an accident or some disgusting foul play..
it's literally 100 times worse just the thought of someone killing him...
so hopefully his loved ones take some consolation in the fact that it looks like there was no foul play

I would think drowning would be similar to being put into a choke hold, you feel some seconds of intense fear and lack of breath then the lights go out and you are unconcious then dead. Probably many worse ways to die on this planet.

so sad. only ever saw him on TV. he seemed like one of the nicer pros and a decent person.

Accident only means that the bump was on his forehead and not on the back of his head and that they could not figure out if he jumped himself or just fell into it and bumped the head in the process.

Condolences to his friends and family, this is awful. RIP.

I suspect foul play but reading all the comments there are couple of questions:

- was he playing poker with a group of people when he left his phone and jacket to his friends? what exactly happened prior to his disappearance? there must be detailed info on that right? who has seen him last and what did he say when he left?
- did he have mental issues? depresssion? i heard he was alot into enlightenment and spirituality, could this have been a trigger for a possible suicide?
- was it really a freak accident? how did he fall into the river? was he drunk? to people who knew him well, did he like to drink/party/take drugs?

But after all there are very many ways to make foul play look like an accident.
Lets just wait for the tox report.
