It sounds like there was probably no foul play which is good because he probably went quite painlessly.

Met him only once briefly in Vienna - seemed like a super nice guy, and absolutely happy with his life.
Not going to do any speculation here - just hope he did not suffer.

I feel bad for this guy even though I never met him. While it doesn't make sense to me, drowning is supposedly a very painless way to go.
