I lost everything important, although I didn't know how much it meant at the time, because of my actions; respect/trust of peers, and my girlfriend.

When I realised what I was doing I actually saw a psych to help with it.

I think that this Guy really does intend to pay back but when his bets don't work out he kind of screws himself.

Good to hear that some scammers can reform themselves. Sounds like things have to hit rock bottom before anything changes. Perhaps this thread will help Edwin to understand that he has lost respect from poker players at least. If his other friends get to hear through Facebook etc then maybe they will make him turn the corner.

Plownded you shoulda made a group or fan page. That way you can invite his fb friends to join rather than "add a friend"

I think the most effective way to do this would be to stagger them.

First... we can spam his friends with a message... with a small summary about what edwin has done, and what is contained in the link to this thread following the mini summary.

Then a day or two later we fire off the fanpage to invite his FB friends.

Just doing the fan page without a message and link to this thread beforehand might get a decent amount of his friends to disregard the fan page and think that it's probably someone who is just pissed at edwin over some small debt, and not think much of it. And even with the link in the fan page, his friends and family still might disregard it and not open the link.

I am just glad I thought to copy and paste all Edwin's FB contacts into my E-mail, once things started to get dicey and shady with respect to our deal, he could have easily deleted me before I thought to copy and paste them. I'm usually behind the curve and not ahead of it.

sorry but no. It's not letting Edwin make the decicion, it's telling him "this is the final deadline, no excuses" and then sticking to it. I realize Edwin's been good at stringing him along but it's not that difficult. You tell him "I've been lenient in the past, that's stopping, if I don't see money in x hours, I am going to your family/friends/the police" and then you do it. If he tries to make excuses tell him he has until that deadline and that's that. Then if he fails to make good in that timeframe you keep your promise. It's not that hard.

Until you have to actually do it.

Look at it from the perspective of a person that is not involved in the gambling world. Illegal bookmaker makes addicted gamblers life hell by posting all over the internet that he is a blah blah blah. Constantly phoning, emails and texts everyday demanding money.

If this story was in the papers it would look like Edwin was the victim and the illegal bookies were the bad guys.

Maybe if the guy hadn't been arrested dozens of times and sent dozens of emails to a variety of people where it's clear he is a compulsive liar and a scammer that are about him not paying back money he borrowed from people you'd have a point.

Sure, the cops might want to investigate the circumstances more thoroughly than they might if the alleged victim is, say, a nun, but people with bad/shady pasts can be victims of other bad people too.

I guess some might think that's karma but I tend to prefer that all victims be treated the same under the law, at least, although they certainly aren't treated the same in the court of public opinion.

whatever was just trying to make a point...stupid one or not...that I highly doubt Edwin will be going to the cops for internet harassing with Jay and I having e-mails from him saying he will pay us back... and documentation in my case, that the money was loaned.
