I figured this just meant both sites go back up, but rereading the original post in this thread he says Both sites back online which doesn't make sense because pokerstars is already online. Unless it means they are returning to the US online?

Hard to believe with all the recent progress/news/developments. Hoping its true, but in before level.

PS isnt paying all this money because they think FT is worth it, they are paying to settle the case so that they can eventually enter the US market. and not having a competitor [re]launch is worth a lot of money as well
Wow. Makes sense.

That was... unexpected... for me at least.

W.O.W.

so stars buys FTP to make sure tapie or whoever never reopens that site and tries to compete vs stars?

They'll want to have at LEAST 3-5 years of online poker market exclusivity before the worldwide leader in poker software comes back into the US.

Not to say, that PokerStars can ALSO pay off some NV pols and setup in that state, however......the DOJ would look petty if Stars were just allowed to go back into business, even though this would be an impressive display of charity. If this happens, you can pretty much erase all my critizism on how they handled the FPP scenario.

Speechless, was wondering why FTP Discussion thread was so quiet today, just stumbled accross this one.
04-24-2012 , 11:09 AM
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned yet that it was announced not too long ago that GBT had found another investor to sure up the deal around the time they were complaining about pros owing money etc. If this PS story is true, it's very likely that GBT was having trouble making the deal work, Pokerstars got involved as an investor and then the deal evolved into Stars just doing the entire purchase themselves. My guess is that negotiating a settlement of fines was a sticking point and the DOJ was unwilling to defer payment, and having someone (Stars) able to just come in and rubber stamp the whole amount caused it to morph into this.

i think anything about stars/FTP returning to the US is just rumor at this point.

then again people getting paid back is still technically a rumor, so who knows.

This is mega, but cannot understand how it works with Tapie??? Why would PS buy FTP, the players are almost the same no? I play on both sites (or used to)

PLEASE SOMEONE explain why PS would buy FTP?
04-24-2012 , 11:12 AM
TBH I think competition between two big rooms is best for players.
One big company... it's called monopoly and it's never been good.
More competition on the market equals more promotions, rake reductions and special offers.
GO GO Bernard Tapie Group!

You shouldn't base your expectations about reentry to the US market based on weird wording in a post.
