Big News: PokerStars Purchases FTP(?) Cliffs in OP Last update 4/24 1:02PM PT Big News: PokerStars Purchases FTP(?) Cliffs in OP Last update 4/24 1:02PM PT

i've never understood the financial motivation in someone buying FTP (i.e. they won't make money and they'll inherit an immense number of headaches).

but i saw one person suggest pokerstars would do it to get favourable treatment from the US government (favourable for company and/or executives/owners).

that actually makes complete sense (and i'm not being sarcastic). so i'd say on this basis there's an excellent chance it happens.

Don't have a subscription?...Me either. So I don't know if there is anything new there. Just another source with an affirmative claim a deal is being negotiated.

The person sure has a lot to say for two paragraphs.
Google the name of the article, click on the link, you can read the entire article which contains nothing new.

To get around the WSJ paywall, just Google the article title and then click on the Google link

i was just going to post wsj article on this subject. here's a quote. you can just put ps and ft into news.google.com and it's the first article that pops up. as someone else mentioned, wsj restricts access to articles on its site, but most articles are available if you google them (bit of a pain, but it's free )

here's the first paragraph (shows that pokerstars has much different motivation than Tapie):

PokerStars is in negotiations to acquire Full Tilt Poker in a deal that would end the two online poker companies' legal battles with the U.S. Justice Department, according to a person familiar with the matter

it's the pre-eminent business publication in the world saying its sources say this is real and serious (may not get consumated or completed of course). i think that qualifies as "new"

No. The DOJ clarified the wire act only applies to sports betting. UIGEA applies to unlawful internet gambling. Whatever is unlawful applies.

Pokerstars can't reenter the US market cause: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/57...hread-1158522/

ROW stands for rest of world I believe. Meaning all those places that aren't the US (you know the ones that don't really matter )

If we hypothetically say, that PS buys FTP. Is it possible for them to run both of the softwares under the same license, or would they need a new one for the FTP software?

Elky's tweet this morning said there is big news from POkerstars.fr coming soon...

Very misleading. Not very relevant to U.S. operating situation. I don't think.

The deal would likely not affect criminal charges pending against the Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars executives not in the U.S., according to the person with knowledge of the matter.

Why the hell would PS want to deal with AGCC for anything? They already have a very nice lic. (one that works) as many former USA PS players found out post BF! AGCC just got stiffed too, some justice in that thankfully!

So Stars isn't allowed back into US market but FTP is?

Stars has 2 clients, how will they be able to hold onto 2 sites that have both done anything so far to compete with each other? So in 6 months we can just say to Steve "hey, you givin' rakeback on FTP, give us some on stars"?

There is so much difference between the two when each and every one of those differences is a landmine, whether it is legalisation, VIP programs, different rake/ rakeback, different game structures, pros contracts etc etc

wtf is stars getting out of this potential mass?

1. buy FTP for 750mil
2. pay back players
3. profit????

Its "sources" are "a person", with quotes such as:

PokerStars executives have been conducting due diligence at Full Tilt's Dublin, Ireland, offices for the last few days, according to the person.

Nowhere in the article are the terms "real", "serious" or anything remotely similar used.

Again, there is nothing new in that article.

They're not likely to attempt to do so. If the purchase goes through, most likely scenario is the end of FTP as a brand. Player balances paid off, but the site won't be reopened.

PS is already in all (most?) of the countries FTP was in, when FTP was operating.

How is that the most likely scenario when both OP and other people with "sources" have stated both sites would remain separate and open?

Fish often switch sites when they keep getting "unlucky" on one site. Or just prefer the software etc. There's no good reason to think that they wouldn't maintain FTP as a profit making enterprise.

It's primary license is in the Isle of Man. It also has licenses in Malta (for pokerstars.eu) and licenses in regulated markets of France, Italy, Belgium, Estonia, Denmark, and Spain (pending).
