Anyone can file a report and only intentionally filing a false report could get you into trouble.

So explain to me. What is the point of VAERS then?

I basically already said this. Detecting statistically significant incidence rates that are over the average for a population which can then indicate further investigation is needed to determine the cause (because there could still be other unrelated causes or erroneous reports to be weeded out). What it is not is a tally of the number of reports meaning anything in and of themselves.

Usually, a vaccine doesn't become a divisive political subject.

Which is basically how I understand it as well. That is, if there are a large enough number of reports over and above the norm then a safety signal is triggered. Well, that safety signal has been triggered long ago. Have they been investigated properly and how many have been investigated?

And obviously this again ….

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacc...porting_System

“As it is based on submissions by the public, VAERS is susceptible to unverified reports, misattribution, underreporting, and inconsistent data quality.[3] Raw, unverified data from VAERS has often been used by the anti-vaccine community to justify misinformation regarding the safety of vaccines; it is generally not possible to find out from VAERS data if a vaccine caused an adverse event, or how common the event might be.[4]”

“Like other spontaneous reporting systems, VAERS has several limitations, including underreporting, unverified reports, inconsistent data quality, and inadequate data about the number of people vaccinated.[14] Due to the program's open and accessible design and its allowance of unverified reports, incomplete VAERS data is often used in false claims regarding vaccine safety.[14][15][16] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that raw data from VAERS is not enough to determine whether a vaccine can cause a particular adverse event.[17]

For instance, Jim Laidler once reported to VAERS that a vaccine had turned him into The Incredible Hulk. The report was accepted and entered into the database, but the dubious nature of the report prompted a VAERS representative to contact Mr. Laidler, who then gave his consent to delete it from the database.[18][19]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, raw VAERS data has often been disseminated by anti-vaccine groups in order to justify inaccurate safety claims related to COVID-19 vaccines, including adverse reactions and alleged fatalities claimed to have been caused by vaccines.[17][19] Websites such as Medalerts (published by the anti-vaccine group National Vaccine Information Center) and OpenVAERS (which published a tally of vaccine adverse events and fatalities allegedly linked to COVID-19 vaccines based on VAERS data), have been linked to this misinformation.[19] Comparative studies of VAERS, which look at relative reporting rates, have found that the data does not support these claims.[20][21]

Vaers is like a fire alarm .
Anyone can pull it , doesn’t mean it’s 100% a fire in progress …..

Don’t u start to see a certain pattern on many subjects u believe in are based on really dubious narrative and never facts ?
I didn’t check yet if u went there but I guess your next stop will be in the climate change thread and denying it’s existence?

Which begs the question. If VAERS is basically useless as that suggests why isn't there a better system? I mean I would have thought it is rather important to find out if a particular vaccine is causing adverse events and/or deaths.

And LOL at using wikipedia as your source of truth.

By the way just because you blindly accept official explanations and narratives for everything doesn't mean everyone does or that they are necessarily true.

Jfc , vaers itself says so .
I just put one link quick because I knew the answer …

https://vaers.hhs.gov/data.html

Quote:
“Anyone, including Healthcare providers, vaccine manufacturers, and the public can submit reports to the system. While very important in monitoring vaccine safety, VAERS reports alone cannot be used to determine if a vaccine caused or contributed to an adverse event or illness. Vaccine providers are encouraged to report any clinically significant health problem following vaccination to VAERS even if they are not sure if the vaccine was the cause. In some situations, reporting to VAERS is required of healthcare providers and vaccine manufacturers.

VAERS reports may contain information that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable. Reports to VAERS can also be biased.

I already answer your question , the uses of vaers is like a fire alarm someone can pull….

If it smell strong smoke in a school , do u only wait untill u see a flame to pull the fire alarm ?

Ps:Wikipedia is more reliable then Twitter or Facebook btw ….

I hate it when people use "begs the question" incorrectly. But I'm an old fuddy-duddy that insists literally does not mean the same thing as figuratively.

As to your question, like Montreal said, if there's smoke, check it out. It might be a fire, but it also might be steam coming off a hot tub.

Well, there is smoke in case you hadn't noticed. Lots of it.

Is it being checked out and if so by who?

You know what it means. We don't need to do anything about VAERS, it's working fine. People who don't understand it should stop referring to it though.

You can't both throw shade at official explanations, which in this case is literally just a description of how it functions, and then try to reference VAERS as proof.

Working fine. LOL

Huge, record numbers of adverse events and deaths reported. I mean have you seen the graphs? They're unreal. And people just hand wave it away. Nothing to see here. Doesn't mean anything, Blah blah blah. Yeah, it's working fine. Yessiree.

And despite your smarmy condescension I understand how it works very well thanks.

Healthcare providers are strongly encouraged to report to VAERS:

- Any adverse event that occurs after the administration of a vaccine licensed in the United States, whether it is or is not clear that a vaccine caused the adverse event
- Vaccine administration errors

Online reporting is strongly encouraged. Please report clinically important adverse events that occur after vaccination of adults and children, even if you are not sure whether the vaccine caused the adverse event.

VAERS accepts all reports, including reports of vaccination errors. Guidance on reporting vaccination errors is available if you have additional questions.
sorry to say but u dont seem to know how it works.

keep your head in the bubble of disinformation and conspiracy shrug.

ps: yes VAERS working fine, u dont seem to know how science works...
its the total body of work that count, not that some data infirm a theory and u chose what u like between the one that fit your narrative..
you seem to cherry pick a lot of data instead of seeing the total work of it.

DISCLAIMER: VAERS accepts reports of adverse events that occur following vaccination. Anyone, including healthcare providers, vaccine manufacturers, and the public, can submit reports to the system.
As a result, there are limitations on how the data can be used scientifically. Data from VAERS reports should always be interpreted with these limitations in mind.

The strengths of VAERS are that it is national in scope and can often quickly detect an early hint or warning of a safety problem with a vaccine. VAERS is one component of CDC's and FDA's multifaceted approach to monitoring safety after vaccines are licensed or authorized for use. There are multiple, complementary systems that CDC and FDA use to capture and validate data from different sources. VAERS is designed to rapidly detect unusual or unexpected patterns of adverse events, also referred to as "safety signals." If a possible safety signal is found in VAERS, further analysis is performed with other safety systems, such as the CDC's Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) and Clinical Immunization Safety Assessment(CISA) Project, or in the FDA BEST (Biologics Effectiveness and Safety) system. These systems are less impacted by the limitations of spontaneous and voluntary reporting in VAERS and can better assess possible links between vaccination and adverse events. Additionally, CDC and FDA cannot provide individual medical advice regarding any report to VAERS.

Key considerations and limitations of VAERS data:

The number of reports alone cannot be interpreted as evidence of a causal association between a vaccine and an adverse event, or as evidence about the existence, severity, frequency, or rates of problems associated with vaccines.

Reports may include incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, and unverified information.

VAERS does not obtain follow up records on every report. If a report is classified as serious, VAERS requests additional information, such as health records, to further evaluate the report.

VAERS data are limited to vaccine adverse event reports received between 1990 and the most recent date for which data are available.

VAERS data do not represent all known safety information for a vaccine and should be interpreted in the context of other scientific information.
