Before the election when players started to discuss candidates I would try to steer them away from it .... but the idea of blanket no politics is not workable for the reason I gave above. Everything is political.

The best dealer approach is just to interject with "hey guys, no offense, but you're on a slippery slope with those kinds of jokes/comments so it might be best to change the subject."

If they fail to catch on to your subtle warning, it is time to tell your supervisor and let them handle it.

You would be wrong in that belief. Unlicensed Poker is illegal in more than three states. It may be that three states passed specific legislation about online poker.

But in any event the statementioned is political even if not true.

Did no one see the quotes? If an arguement begins to brew and its obvious it may get heated I just say "hey didnt we ban all politics from the tables?" and usually they get the point.

She's not wrong, I've noticed it too.

Our room does a great job of keeping the players' behavior in line, but for reasons I'll never understand, allows the higher-limit players to get away with this stuff. And "this stuff" has really flared up recently, and it has been led by the supporters of one particular candidate/President-Elect.

I understand that correlation does not equal causation in every case, but I'm comfortable with her conclusion.

Maybe its just where I live, but poker in this area is so VASTLY diverse I love it. We have never had an issue with anything like this, you would have to have some big balls to make any racist comments in some of the rooms (in our area) since, I would estimate, that 50% - more at times - of the players are non-white. And as far as sexist comments, well best hope the Hungarian ladies dont hear it or there be a throw down.

You and I may not agree about what qualifies as racist. It's not necessarily the over the top "die n@@@@@". In fact sometimes it's very subtle and in my experience in poker Asians are frequently the subject.

No I get it.

But at the charity rooms (not the casinos - whole different issue) the player base in a given area is 90% regs, they all play with each other often, at all surrounding rooms. At least this is what it is like in the rooms surrounding Detroit, not sure about the west or north sides of state.

On this day I am thankful for:

1. That I have a job in the room where I want to work with a good schedule.
2. Whenever the players in seat 3 and 8 push their bets forward that extra inch or two.
3. When the push comes on time.
4. When the player in seat 1 doesn't crowd me, lean way forward as I'm pitching, or smell bad.
5. Shuffle machines that don't constantly break down/need to be switched out.
6. Friendly regs.
7. A break room absent of political chatter.
8. Floor people who have my back.
9. That my room doesn't spread Omaha 8.
10. That I don't work today.

Happy Thanksgiving!

YTF: Straddle! Live straddle. Four to go, and it's live.

(A few players limp.)

MP: Is that a raise?

YTF: That's a straddle.

(MP limps. LP limps.)

BUTTON: How much to me?

(LP shakes his head and laughs at all these idiots.)

YTF: $4.

(Button limps. Blinds limp. Straddler fires in a $30 squeeze. All fold around to the button, who looks confused.)

BUTTON: HE can raise? How....?

YTF: He straddled.

BUTTON: YOU didn't tell me it was a straddle!

LP: (shakes his head again) He said it FOUR TIMES!

BUTTON: (folds) But when I asked how much it was, he said "$4." He SHOULD have said, "$4, it's a straddle."

YTF: Wait a minute! (stops the action, addresses Button) I should have said *what*?

BUTTON: I'm not talking to you.

YTF: Oh, sorry, I thought I heard my name. (Resumes hand, turns out this hand will see a flop)

LP: He said it four times.

YTF: (just can't help myself) You thought the fifth time would be the charm, huh?

You know it's gonna be a long night when the first hand takes 8 minutes...

....no flop needed.

Fifteen minutes into the down saw a total of three hands dealt and $0 in the toke box.

So I have a player who is constantly typing away at his phone, ad he doesn't look up so when the action gets to him I have to get his attention.

Finally I get his attention and I tell him "give me your phone number so I can text you when its your turn."

I think I will be using this line more often

I use the "Can someone text him and let him know it's his turn" variation.

Does anyone know what the take would be at any of the vegas station casinos, or the cannery I'm about to finish up dealers school and I'm not sure which to apply for. My school is offering placement, but I'm not sure if I should try a couple spots on my own.

BTW not sure if this is the right thread for this question please direct if not, tu.
