We're talking either 18 hours of driving or a $250 flight, which is a good bit for one day. The flight it tempting, but I'm not sure its in my budget.

So disappoint. I knew you were a tad far, but was hoping I could arm-twist you into it.

I'm maybe 30% to make it out. Would be fun to meet y'all, just need a favorable alignment of certain tumblers in the big lock.

Schmen, Just CC'd you on the email that I sent out to my home game crew. Hopefully a few guys will travel down for ya.

Also, I'm pretty sure I just can't give up my flip title. Might have to ship some monies and I'll watch via webcam as I rake in on the flips.

US is so big. Over here you can cover the entire country North to South and back in that time frame. East to West would be ~ 2 hours (depending where you are).

I am talking round trip, but also only 4 states. And smallish east coast states, at that.

Oh really? Admitting that this is a large nation does not diminish the length of the drive.

Flying to Israel for lanyi's game is nothing compared to a trip to the moon. Who's in?

That is roughly the size of the state of North Carolina.

And our neighbors are about as pleasant. I mean, have you BEEN to South Carolina?

Well, something is not adding up. Israel is about 8500 square miles, and NC is over 50K square miles. NC is 150 miles N to S, and 560 E to W.

I think you are exaggerating the drive time, unless you are going by camel.

I have, and based on some quick Googling, it seems that Israel and South Carolina have a lot in common:

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
To let lanyi and others in on the joke, South of the Border is a notorious tourist trap near the North/South Carolina border, and they are famous for these billboard advertisements which litter the highway once you get within about 50 miles of the place.

Give Pedro the business!

(Note: I will have to resort to Google after this one, so if you can come up with one more from memory, you win.)

A few years back when my son was 1.5-2 years old we made a trip from MD down to Tampa to visit my wife's Grandmother.

I insisted we would stop at South of the Border because I had this grandiose vision of the place from the memories I had somehow stored from a my childhood some 25 plus years earlier.

My wife and mother both tried to talk me out of it. I didn't relent and we stopped as planned.

Good lord, I've never been so let down by my own memory and hopes and expectations in my life.

We witnessed at least one drug deal in the parking lot and the bathrooms were located off by themselves to a point where I'm certain abductions and murders are commonplace.

Needless to say, we did not stick around to find out.

I've had stuff come up forcing me to miss the last two. This one is close enough to drive, and I will be there. I'll give a reminder to the wife that she needs to swap out her Friday shift for a Wednesday one so I can head down on Thursday (although saying that, it'll probably be me heading down on Friday morning, but we'll see).

I may also be able to drag a couple of folks with me, though PokERstyle has already said his wife won't let him slip that far for a weekend--especially not to Florida without her.

Easy fix, bring the wife and point her to nearest beach with her own hotel room.

WARNING

In the interest of full disclosure, I want all potential HPI attendees to know that you are in danger of being assaulted by faux-Mexican fast food products:

I enjoyed meeting everyone last year at Pali's here in Phoenix. Unfortunately I have other family commitments this summer and can't really squeeze in another trip. I trust there will be excellent tourney reports.
Speaking of pali, anyone know what happened to him- I haven't seen him in months and never did find out if he ever put up the video recordings of last year's HPI main event.

Too bad you can't make it - let me know if that changes.

Last I talked to Pali was the end of October. He was doing fine, just busy working. Between a long commute and 2+2 being blocked at the new job, he just didn't have time to get online.

He said he was still interested in coming down this summer. I'll ping him and see if that's still true.
