You can also arrange with your Hotel ( I use PH) for limo service to and from for diddly squat or nothing if yo ubook some table hours (non-poker) and are Gold or Diamond. If any of you wanna tip on how to get Diamond quick to gain perks I can explain via PM the fastest way to do this.
Gold is what you start as in Harrah's rewards, do you mean Diamond/Platinum or Diamond/7-star? 7-star you have to be a ridic degen afaik, I'm platinum.

As for rides, I'm living with some other poker players in the Enterprise area (southwest Vegas), so if anyone else is living around there and wants to do some ride sharing stuff that would be awesome since I'm playing a pretty full schedule of events and not many of my roomies are.

Wait, what? You get charged extra for being < 25 when you rent a car? $20 per day seems pretty terrible and why set it at some arbitrary age like 25? Are all places like this? Seems a cab would be a much better option if this is the case.

It's because young drivers get in way more accidents.

it's not arbitrary. people <25 are more likely to get in a wreck/damage car than >25

that doesn't mean it's not arbitrary. If they wanted to price it according to risk they could set up some kind of regression, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't look much like '$0 until 25, $20/day after 25'

it's semi-arbitrary, but they basically figured that they could screw people over under 25 but it'd be harder to screw people over once they're over 25.

so yeah in other news, I think I'm gonna cancel my rental cause I realized that I don't have insurance (my credit card only covers rentals up to 15 days) and it'd be really expensive. if anyone knows a good way to get cheap insurance let me know. I have renter's insurance for my apt, but I'm almost positive it doesn't include rental cars... maybe I can get my insurance company to give me insurance for a rental car? I'll probably just do a couple short term rentals for when my girlfriend will be visiting and a car will be more important. sigh, back to sharing 2 cars between 4 people again =/

http://www.census.gov/compendia/stat...es/11s1113.pdf

Of particular interest are the high proportion of fatal accidents among people < 25 years old. Also, the highest proportion of accidents involving a driver being over the 0.08 BAC limit are among the 21-24 age group (not surprising).

I know it feels very unfair since you are probably quite a bit more responsible than the average 24 year old but statistically it makes a lot of sense.

Did you ask the car rental company how much their insurance is? I don't think it's terribly expensive.

Doesn't your insurance already cover liability insurance for rentals? Mine does and collision insurance for rentals is so absurdly overpriced that you're way better off just risking the bad beat.

eh that pdf is misleading cause it groups 25-34 year olds together. I bet it'd look very similar if it listed 24-34 year olds together instead. basically I'm not arguing that <25 year olds aren't more of a risk - clearly they are - I'm just saying the solution of charging <25 year olds $20/day and charging 25 year olds $0/day is clearly not directly based on the risk factor - it's the fact that it's easy to establish that as standard and <25 year olds aren't gonna bitch about it. if they wanted to base it on the risk factor, it'd be a lot smoother than that.

billy - yes, if I had car insurance. have never owned a car, and I'm pretty sure I'm not covered under my parents insurance anymore (at least not while driving a car they dont own)

Vegas cabbies are DYING for business and if you tell them you can get them decent sized trips they'll make sure either they or one of their buddies gets over to your house very quickly when you call them directly. DO NOT go through dispatch whenever possible.
This is similar to what I had in mind but instead maybe a before and after payment to guarantee they don't screw you over. If people live so far apart maybe they can do it in small groups but definitely getting a direct contact with the cab driver is the way to go.

I would seriously just ask the car rental agency, I'm not sure if it's different based on age but I seem to remember optional full insurance being like $5/day or something.

it's at least $15/day, dont remember the exact number. **** adds up when you're renting for 45+ days

Might just be age based then, $15 is def pretty high. If your credit card covers rentals up to 15 days tho can't you just give the car back and re-rent it or use another rental place after 15 days? (I know this is a stupid/obvious loophole, but sometimes those work)
