You may need to be more specific. What do you want the computer to do for you? Pretty much any desktop you can find will be fine for online poker.

I'd go to a local shop with some geeky expert and have him build it for me.

**** dual monitors with that budget, get this:

http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN65F9000AFXZA

It has a kit that will allow you to upgrade it to HDMI 2.0 when it's out for about $300 (which is crucial).

It's $2350-$3k online, some of those outfits are kind of shady though, look for an authorized samsung dealer if you want to be safe.

I have my Samsung tv as my monitor, and after working 3 hours on it my eyes dry out. I think it is not optimal. I think 2x 20" monitors are better for me. But it is obviously based on individual preferences.

Maaaaaaybe 36"+.
Why not one of the Seiki TV's?

That seiki looks the business.
Might upgrade to the newer model once it supports 60fps at 4k.

For everyone ITT asking about monitors, I'll share what I've found from the past few days of research looking for my own upgrade to a 27" or bigger.

The new 4ks...IMO total overkill for poker unless you plan on tiling 30+ tables or something. To take advantage of 4k res you'd need to buy one of the seiki TVs (39" or 50")that I linked above because text (and poker tables) are going to be tiny on a 28" monitor like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-28-Inc.../dp/B00IEZGWI2

And personally, I don't want to use a 39" or 50" TV as a monitor.

So what about the Korean monitors like Crossover or Qnix? I almost pulled the trigger on this 27" Qnix (http://www.amazon.com/QNIX-QX2710-Ev.../dp/B00BUI44US) as well as this 30" (http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Yamaka...ter%20monitor) until I remembered they both have only a 1 year warranty and the fact that it could be difficult/impossible to return with the alleged horrible customer support/language barrier. I did read some reviews that said it is possible to get a replacement but you have to pay shipping both ways ($80?) which is obviously not ideal.

With all that said, it still is probably worth the risk because they are about 1/2 the price or less of a good Dell or Samsung.

Luckily though, I kept searching and found a hidden gem: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009626

At $350 this 27" is going to be very hard to beat because not only is it a name brand (albeit a lower class one) it has a 3 year warranty. Giddy up.

Keep in mind I wouldn't buy this monitor for gaming but if you're like me and don't care about refresh rates, etc and are only going to use it for poker/web browsing then GL finding a better deal.

About to press buy for this: http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...9_12-20-13.pdf

Cost is around US$770 deliver to my house (in NZ so shipping is a bitch)

Any fundamental objections on specs or price?

Usage poker/pt4/multiple monitors/streaming/music etc

^ How many monitors? It says:
"Multi-Display Capable: One DVI-D (Dual link)"
It seems to have only one monitor output, it may have two if they mean "one additional DVI for multi-display" but that isn't entirely clear.
Might want to contact them about that.

Regarding using 4k TVs as a monitor, main problem is we need them to run at 60Hz. Most cheap Tvs only have an hdmi 1.4 port which runs 4k@30Hz.

I don't know if there exist cheap 50' 4k Tvs with an hdmi 2.0 input or a Dvi input...

No, not yet, but they're coming (depending on your definition of cheap of course). Why do you need to run them at 60hz though (unless it's not only/mainly for poker)

Even for poker, we need 60Hz, try playing at 30Hz, and you'll see a certain lag in mouse/card animations/etc, which leads to eye strains, specially so close to the screen for long sessions.

By cheap I mean under 1k$ for a 50' for example this model should come out soon :

http://tclusa.com/currentmodels/49ue5700/

A 49' for 600$ that looks to have hdmi 2.0 and should be able to run 4k at 60Hz (hopefully).

Yup, not gonna bother w/ anything 4K-related before hdmi2.x is the new standard every new piece of hardware comes equipped with.

Once that's the case I'll probably start thinking about upgrading, starting from my HT-setup ie AV-receiver, HTPC, TV.
And then maaaaaybe at some point upgrade my poker-setup but probably not, because I already have ~8M pixels across my 20"-30"-20" triple-monitor-setup (4960x1600).

Anyone who can recommend a laptop for grinding and gaming?
Upper limit around 1500€.

Should include:
SSD, 17", maybe not too loud and too hot when gaming

not sure about that last requirement. Is that even possible off the shelf? I will say that I had my Vaio professionally taken apart and had a better heatsink and better thermal paste added and that worked wonders for overheating and fan noise.

Right guys, sorry if this has already been answered.

My wireless mouse has recently packed in and was wondering what peoples preferred choices are for grinding

Apologies for the terribly generic question but I am receiving an error message on my laptop that the hard disc needs to be repaired/replaced and the laptop has effectively ground to a halt.

This is what it came with when it was new I think: http://storage.toshiba.eu/cms/en/hdd...?productid=415

Am I best to just get a straight replacement (or as close to from Amazon as possible) or can someone recommend a good upgrade that would work?

It is a little over two years old and already it is/was nearly impossible to do much filtering of hands in PT4 in an timely fashion.

Thanks
