Apologies if this gets asked a lot.

What kind of sample size do you need to tell if you are a winning sng player?

I've played 70 6 max hyper turbos on stars and my ROI 4.49, although I have got loads of horrible beats as so many players just GII and gamble. So I hope my true rate may be slightly higher.

I've played 110 standard format tours and my ROI is 20.00 - I seem to do better in these because I have more time to get a read on players and abuse the weak ones near the bubble.

I also wonder whether the micro/low states are even profitable long run due to the rake.

For 6max hypers; 5000 games should be fine.
In the 'Long run' your Goal is to move up in stakes in order to make higher hourly. On 6max hypers $30 you can grind for SNE. There are also many SN on $15 6max hypers on Pokerstars.

If you can live from it, is another question....how much Money do you Need to make a living? There is a huge difference between costs in Thailand and Germany

What kind of ROI do the best players make from Small Stakes Single Table SNG's?

Is 15% considered decent?

Hi o/, I suppose I can use this time to introduce myself... I've been playing poker for a good few years but never seriously... I've never really read too many books or studied too serious, in fact this is my first time signing up too a forum...

I wouldn't consider myself a stupid player but I know that I can improve my game with a little bit of effort and help from players better than myself, my hope is that I can discuss poker with like minded people and improve my game... I mainly played live poker but now I want to turn my attention to online STT...

My question is how can I use my hand histories effectively? Do I need a poker software? If so which one would people recommend? Any answers appreciated...

My PC broke, using up the second of my SNG wiz licenses. I read around here that wiz is a bit out of date these days. Which do you guys recommend out of SNG solver and ICMIzer. All I can find is the software developer's sponsored pages and cannot find impartial comparisons. If I have missed some threads a link would be just as helpful.

Thanks

My preference is Hold'em Resources calculator. I also hear and believe ICMizer is good. Is Solver still being supported?

Wiz had hold'em resources calculator shortcuts, where it calculated the Nash equilibrium. Does the paid version allow you to find exploitable ranges or is it just a Nash calculator?

What?
p/f?

Question about sizing?
When is sizing important and when not?
Beginner/Basic Question Thread Quote

P/f = push/fold (either folding or shoving preflop when nobody has entered the pot before you, as opposed to having a range for minraising and folding to a 3bet shove even as shallow as 8-15 bb), sizing matters always.

'Beginners' BRM imo = 100 BI for $15-60 turbos, 200 BI for $15-60 hypers (less for lower stakes, more for higher ones). For MTTs, the needed number of BIs grows with their field size and depends a lot on their perceived softness, e.g. 150 BI for 18-man SnGs, 200 for 45-man, 400 for 180-man, but maybe less for MicroMillions / COOPs / Sunday Million despite the kilofields because ROIs there are higher than in the everyday grind.

The best soft for ICM analysis imo = Holdemresources Calculator. Also, Pokerstars players can't do well without Sharkystrator (autoregistrator), it's ****ing hard to get into a decent hyper without it, my mouse-clicking skills aren't good enough

For those who don't know Benni, he's a very curious person, but he's also unhappy in general, so please be nice to him. The SSPLO forum has a special thread for his questions, and I suggest a special STTF thread for his queries about STTs.

Apologies for being a nit. p/f = push/fold and pf = preflop.

I've corrected my post, sorry for that confusion. I didn't notice that the talk was about hypers; the idea of beating turbos by pure push/fold in the early levels would sound weird.

Quick newbie question about a stupid little hand that probably doesn't deserve its own thread. How much of a dick move is it to bet purely because villain is having connection problems and seems likely to time out?

PokerStars - $1.29+$0.21|10/20 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

MP+2: 75 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 2)
CO: 74 BB (VPIP: 50.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 2)
BTN: 73.5 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 2)
Hero (SB): 74 BB
BB: 75 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 2)
UTG: 75 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 2)
UTG+1: 80.5 BB (VPIP: 100.00, PFR: 50.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 2)
MP: 75 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 2)
MP+1: 73 BB (VPIP: 50.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 2)

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has J J

fold, fold, fold, MP+1 raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 5 BB, fold, MP+1 calls 2 BB

Flop: (11 BB, 2 players) 4 A 6
Hero bets 6 BB, MP+1 calls 6 BB

Villain disconnects, uses up his entire 60 second time bank, reconnects in time to call

Turn: (23 BB, 2 players) K
Hero checks, MP+1 checks

Villain disconnects again, hand is auto-checked. Villain is still disconnected as river is dealt

River: (23 BB, 2 players) T
Hero bets 1 BB

Early in the sng with no read on the villain I'd decided I was done with the hand once the K landed, but a cheeky minimum bet on the river while he was disconnected seemed like a +EV move. Is this bad etiquette, or would you say all's fair in poker?

I would have fired small on turn and river. It is not your fault that the player's connection is not very good.

Yeah that was my thinking, but I caught a bit of grief from a couple of other players for doing it, so thought I'd see what people here thought. Thanks.

Other players will give you grief for a lot of reasons. Is it good manner to bet when your villain is disconnected? Certainly not. But over the course of time you will disconnect as well and nobody will make you any gifts then.

In husng if two regulars battle each other on a regular basis, it is much more fraud upon to abuse the situation and plenty of players send the money back.

I've been playing 6 M HT on Stars for a while now but in a d/s I was looking at a few things and for the first time TBH I found c net adjusted in PT4. I was aware of the debate re c ev and $ ev but now I am confused...
Prolly been asked loads but where can I find a definitive answer re which stat should I refer to in PT4?
If poss would be great to understand not just in relation to 6M HT but certainly that is my priority.

I have a question regarding 6 max hyper turbos....

In the first two levels when opening first in should I be min-opening or opening 3x like a standard game? I have found such different responses on this matter with arguments being put forward for each...

My question is which is more fundamentally correct? I currently min open myself and find that I get almost as much folds as 3Xing without putting as much of a % of my stack at risk. The only "negative" (could also be a positive?) is that I have found that complete fish (mostly first timers) are more likely to interpret it as weakness and 3 bet a lot lighter.

Anyway it would be interesting to here people opinions

had a bad run of cards on stars, where I play as mariboman. getting it in massive, but only short sample no big deal but to prevent tilt thought id give a "softer" site a go. so playing on 888 for a bit.
The normal speed played 3 spots on 6 max. Felt very strange a 4handed icm bubble, and didn't suit my edges. so thought id play turbo which pay top2 which is fine. But its 70/30 payout. The flips hu are brutal lol.
Just wandering on adjustments I need to make. obviously format puts more value on hu practice which is fine I like hu and my hu game is ok for my level. Does 70/30 make the icm bubble pawnage more valuable. and acquiring this spot more lucrative. The only problem with this thinking is the average standard of player means icm bubble pawnage not so lucrative as they wont make the correct tight folds the spots dictate.
also the turbo element plus the 70/30 means I should have a bigger br maybe. but then are these factors counteracted by overall "softness"?
thought please

I really don't get how this ICM thing is supposed to work.

Right, take the hand history below. SNGWiz recommends a shoving range of TT+/AK. Which seems insanely tight?

PokerStars - $0.44+$0.06|100/200 Ante 25 NL - Holdem - 3 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BB): 20.8 BB
BTN: 19.23 BB (VPIP: 18.05, PFR: 16.67, 3Bet Preflop: 5.71, Hands: 134)
SB: 27.48 BB (VPIP: 26.32, PFR: 4.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 57)

3 players post ante of 0.13 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.88 BB) Hero has 9 T

fold, SB calls 0.5 BB, Hero raises to 20.68 BB and is all-in, fold

Hero wins 2.38 BB

And in this one, SNGWiz says only shove the top 9%. When there's 14BB's effective? Really?

PokerStars - $0.44+$0.06|150/300 Ante 25 NL - Holdem - 2 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BB): 30.93 BB
SB: 14.07 BB (VPIP: 25.00, PFR: 3.64, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 64)

2 players post ante of 0.08 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.67 BB) Hero has J K

SB calls 0.5 BB, Hero raises to 30.85 BB and is all-in, SB calls 12.98 BB and is all-in

And yet in some other shoving situations pretty similar to these it tells me to push any two. What gives?

OK another question - what's a good score on the SNGWiz quiz? I score 100% on the 'easy' difficulty questions, and about 85-90% on the 'intermediate' ones. Not tried expert yet.

Do you really need to be getting 100% to make a profit in todays games? I hear the edges are super tiny so you literally have to be just about perfect.

forgive me if I am missing the obvious, but I can't seem to find the FAQ thread. Can someone point me to it? Also, any advice on where to go to find literature on SnG strategy would be appreciated. Long time cash game player looking to learn something new and I've never really don anything other than donk around with SNG's.

Thanks in advance!
