I would bet there is a strong correlation between the number of topics a poster believes they are educated enough to opine on, and the likelihood of an unjustified superiority complex.

That is to say, if you think your opinion can be educated enough to be meaningful on a broad array of matters and you are posting strong opinions on a wide variety of complex topics, and, you're lolling at others for their opinions, you're probably a self-righteous ignoramus.

If people cut out television and video games (I know, I know...what's the point of life then?) and start reading instead, they will start to develop a diverse knowledge base. A lot of topics under the umbrella of politics are related in fundamental ways and so, if you have a solid foundation, it becomes easier to gain depth the broader range you venture into.
