Seems a little harsh. Benoit did something awful, but he was so far gone by that point (according to the autopsy findings) that it's hard to find him liable. It's just a tragic situation all around.

Worrying about whether or not athlete's who stay in the game too long can get CTE isn't really vile.

I don't actually know of Bryan to have a long concussion history. I know there was that one in January of this year. Doesn't mean that others haven't happened, but I don't know how we're at the point of "likely to be a long-term problem."

Sure, but that's a super charitable reading of the post, which seems more like pure trolling to me. (and what LKJ says, Bryan's got a neck injury, not a prolonged history of concussions).

Plus acting like Benoit is the logical end game for CTE is just ****ty. Yes, some people with CTE have taken their own lives/lives of others, but that's not close to the majority.

I guess I just look at "the full Benoit" as meaning "suffering from CTE to the point you're unable to function properly" not meaning what he did to himself/his family.

In general I just have a really tolerant approach to athletes that decide to hang them up early. They've made their money and want to retire before the grind seriously hampers their quality of life later.

It seems hard to believe that almost any WWE superstar wouldn't have a "top 2% of the population" kind of concussion history. So many bumps seem like they'd lead to brain injury over time.

I'm not an expert on Bryan's indy wrestling career, but having watched his matches with Nigel McGuiness in ROH, and extrapolating that Bryan worked that stiff in other matches, he absolutely must have suffered numerous serious concussions along the way, exacerbated by the fact that he worked through them.

McGuiness suffers from depression and cognitive problems which he largely attributes to his concussions working in ROH.

Bryan's made his money and achieved everything there is in wrestling. As a fan, I would rather he retired healthy than inflict more damage on himself. At the very least he has to dramatically change his style.
