Kobashi vs Misawa 1/20/97
Kobashi vs Hansen 7/29/93

Kobashi/Misawa didn't get 5* but is widely regarded as their best match. They did have I believe 3 5* matches together.

Hansen/Kobashi was regarded as best match of all time until Misawa/Undrafted happened on 6/3/94 and is spectacular. The finish is brutal.

I don't personally care for RVD (I don't like the random flippy floppy **** he does) but he was really over for awhile (especially during the Invasion) so I can't fault the pick.

More curious than knocking the pick, if RVD was the top guy in ECW why did he never hold the ECW World Heavyweight Championship in the 5 years that he was there?

I'm aware that I'm up but I'm at a meeting and not near my draft board. Will pick when I can.

From what I've heard, the big fear Heyman had was that putting the strap on him would make him seem far more valuable to WCW and the WWF and thus left him with the TV title in order to keep the big companies from stealing him away. Without RVD, ECW probably goes down much earlier than it actually did so I understand the philosophy.

RVD is an interesting one. I reckon RVD would have been completely massive in either WCW or WWF but he just happened to be one of the top guys in a tiny niche fed a lot of wrestling fans had never even heard of.

No clue how you would figure out his slot in the company but he is a good pick and i believe because of the rules clarification earlier you basically get him without breaks as his time off to care for his wife wont count.

Spoiler:

Jake is an incredible asset to my promotion for many reasons with the biggest being his versatility. His promo skills are some of the best the wrestling world have ever seen, both as a face and as a heel. My hatred for Ted Dibiase as a kid was largely driven by Jake's promos, and in an instant he became my most hated man on Earth by torturing Randy Savage and Elizabeth.

Here is my favorite face promo of his (from WrestleMania VI, please please watch if you never have before):

Of course we need to prove his heel skills too:

He wasn't a complete stiff in the ring either, although he doesn't have any true mat-based classics on his WWF resume (not like anyone really did in the time period). I will also, of course, have to deal with his alcohol and drug problems later in his career, although this occurs far enough down the road of his career that his eventual departure shouldn't make much of an impact.

Roster thus far:

The Rock
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper
Jake "The Snake" Roberts
This is the guy I was thinking of earlier that I think was a superior pick to Rude. Someone tell me why I'm wrong.

That's some expert booking.

I like the pick, you get 20 years of someone who is fun to watch and was over with the fans, but I think you are overestimating him here. He had 6 years in the WWE (most likely in his prime, he was 30 when he joined) to get massive and while he main evented and won some stuff he did not become massive.

Actually its an interesting story why RVD was never ECW champ.

Heyman booked him as TV champion which was their secondary belt, but the entire plan was to build the TV belt up as equal to the ECW belt so he relied on RVD as the TV champ for something like 18 months. He was going to have RVD and the ECW champ feud and the culmination was RVD would end up holding both straps at once iirc and he would look godlike and be their mega star. Basically the entire future of the company was banking on this but it was expected to be a huge revenue source.

The plan was great until RVD broke his ankle badly something like 2 months before they would have had him be the dual champ. It was a bad break and there was nothing they could do so he gave up the title, eventually returning in time to not be paid what he was owed and then basically ECW imploded from their debts.

He was the only crowd fave in a heel team in the invasion and he was mega popular from like day one to the day he left. But he was held back partially cos he is a weed fiend which may be an issue and because of the way Vince books.

Like i say im not sure how he would slot in for EMc but he is pretty comparable to Eddie Guerrero as a huge upper midcarder who had some main event promise too.

Interesting story indeed thanks.

See, I don't disagree with any of this. I just wouldn't be so quick to say that he would have become completely massive when he had a chance in the biggest market and didn't. It's not impossible though that he would have become bigger if he had joined earlier/had been booked differently.

Round 3 was reversed to make it fairer for the guys at the bottom. You picked 14 then 3 then 3 again. In round 4 you will get pick 14 and in round 5 you will pick at 3 as we continue with standard snake.

I wish I could find the last draft thread so I could quote all the praise you gave Jake when you drafted him in that one.

Holy **** that Hansen vs Kobashi match was amazing.

Is moorobot about? Id like to trade positions in the next two rounds with you and you can have any two later rounds inc the double pick rounds to trade from your last position to my middle position. So round 4 i go last and you go 9th and round 5 you go 8th and i go first then you can have a run of four double pick rounds picking first and 8th.

I know i said i wouldnt trade positions but given loads of others have it is what it is.

With the 46th pick in the draft, I select...

Spoiler:

A massive draw in one region, very much over nationwide for basically his whole career, Lawler can be the top babyface if the occasion calls for it, or he can be an absolute heat magnet as a heel. I think Lawler fits very, very well with the type of company that I'm building. And yes, I'm taking his prime wrestling days. If I ever use him at the announce table, it will be over a decade down the road.

Spoiler:
My federation so far:
Ric Flair
Antonio Inoki
Jerry "The King" Lawler

Oh and a question to the field thinking bout my language issues. Are we still doing generic interviewers and stuff?

So while i cant have a named known person i can have a backstage interviewer who speaks both English and Japanese called Bob Loblor or whatever made up name?
