Anyone going to be around this weekend?
02-11-2009 , 02:40 PM
i will be heading down there on sunday. i just finished antibiotics, and i'm starting to feel sick again, but i will not let this stop me. it's been too long.

i remember an employee tell me a few years ago that president's say W/E was the busiest. is this true?

That post almost makes it sound like you should be playing at the Taj instead. Your phlegm and vomit on the chips wouldn't be out of place at all.

I might be there on Monday due to the long weekend.

Any bigger limit games than 3/6 at the Showboat? I'll be there Fri/Sat. I'm looking for a little bigger game, maybe 5/10. Thanks.

I have never seen any LHE games bigger than 3/6 at the Showboat.

i heard directly from the management there that they are going to try and start up the $7.50/$15 Limit game the Trop used to hold ("Pink Chip Game")

I think it'd be great to see that game running again, especially at Showboat ... we should try to stir some interest on this forum and maybe we can see it come to life

Thoughts?

I will plug this like its my job...but it is much harder without a base of LHE players in the room that play that high so we really need to get an interest list going on here and then set a date in my opinion.

Pink chip is just as dead as limit holdem in general.

Word is that another Showboat Poker Manager is leaving.

I am primarily a LHE player, usually 2/4, 3/6, 4/8, dependng where I am playing. I agree with what Rod wrote a few posts above this one. The Showboat has a hard time getting any LHE games above 2/4 to run on a consistent basis. I think it would be very difficult to get this game off the ground. The player pool for anything above the very bottom levels of LHE just isn't there anymore.

Even the Taj's 5/10 LHE game has become hit and miss lately. Most of the player pool that would have been mid-limit players five or six years ago have switched over to NLHE.

Yea I think whats best for our poker room is to really try and get PLO off the ground in AC right now. I think we all know it is the future of poker as well as a high variance game with a lot of gamble (may actually bring in some table games players). If we are the first to really get games on a consistant basis and build a player base we will at least have a huge advantage over every room in the city except the Borg.

I really am out of ideas of how to start getting the game going until spring rolls around since management doesn't wanna give us any funds to bring players into the room.

Hey,

Just wanted to say great job to the showboat people on your tournament structure. I was really impressed. I'm one of those die hard Taj fans who only leaves the 2/5NL games at Taj to swing by my apartment, come right back, and start all again. (you know, stabbings, beatings, holdups, and firealarms have no effect on me) BUT, I gave the 2PM tournament a try the other day, ended up going out in 7th, just out of the money, but was really impressed with the structure.

No antes, 20 minute levels - excellent. Great dealers too - friendlier than I remember a few years ago when I played there, although definitely a few of the same faces.

Again, very nice job.

1/1 PLO/NLHE, $50 min, $200 max.

That's our home game, and it's how we've gotten people introduced to PLO. Money wise, it's right in between most casinos which have something like a 2/4 LHE and a 1/2 NLHE.

What's your opening preflop raise? I know a pot-sized raise here would be $4, but if you can open for $5, you might be on to something.

Good point, I will see what I can do to run this game....I think the way we have the 1/2 game with the 500max cap could make the game scary for people who wanna recreationally play the game and just "try it out". That is what we need, people who try and and love it. I am pretty sure that is how Wooden King fell in love with the game.

I will do my best to get the right people to put in the regs for this game, as far as promotions like double comps and stuff...it is just not going to happen for now though. The casino is hurting while the poker room just had its best month ever (I wouldn't have thought, but its tru) so I think the casino is taking some of our success and trying to use that to hold up the slack of the rest of the place...

Bare with us guys, we are trying the best we can.

Cya tonight!

Have you ever walked into a shop or restaurant or anything else and said to yourself, "they could be making a fortune here if they would just...?"

That's how I feel when I am in Showboat's poker room. xxRodxx, I know from playing at the Showboat you are a very good dealer. And you obviously want to put in the effort to see your room grow and be successful. You make a great effort of getting player input and suggestions and taking them to your bosses. But your room is not taking off like it could because your bosses don’t know what they want the poker room to be or how to make it a success. Your bosses are thinking like operations managers instead of business developers or strategic planners.

This is way too deep a subject to tackle on this forum. In a nutshell your bosses need to have some vision, and be willing to invest money to make money. There's a chance to become the room for PLO if Showboat wants to be that. Even some small investments could make some nice returns. Offer special comps to players to get a PLO game going. It worked at Trump Plaza and that room had way bigger problems than you have. Print up fliers or a small sign to promote PLO. Start an email list. Lots of things can be done. Relying on you and woodenking to spread the word on 2+2 can only accomplish so much.

They have no pink chips.

Janet left. Not of her own accord. Was there another?

I wont discuss my co-workers on the forum, but I am sure you will find out the second you come in. It is a huge hit, to the dealers and the poker room in general as has every loss we have had. Every good competent POKER employee gets replaced buy an worthless and quite frankly, lazy table games person. Some actually seem to care about us and that they do a good job, so I don't want to generalize but overall the biggest problem in the room is incompetence in all forms of management.

Cockpit, we have known this for a long time now, I don't see things changing any time soon. The excuse is the economy, the funny thing is we are a small stakes room and most of the poker community in AC really hasn't seemed to be hit to hard, cause every where I go including the SB there are still games. We have a meeting towards the end of the month, this will be my last ditch effort to get them to realize they are killing the only thing that makes the SB worth playing at.

Ok I shouldn't rant here ne more. I am sick of being the room with all the potential though.

Regarding the $2.50 pink chips, they pay them out too when you have a $5 on a color in Roulette and it hits one of the greens.

BBJ update?

i dont see a pink chip game running at showboat, not to be a downer

Rod - your last post is on target but you might want to delete or edit it. It's not worth risking your own job or chances to get hired by another room by publicly slamming your bosses.
