I really disagree with this. Mike's "goal" was to interact with the users of the forum and patrons of the room in which he works. His "goal" was not to promote the room. Other than the BBJ updates, I cannot think of a post any of the dealers have made in this thread that could clearly be construed as promotion. I'd be really curious to see these posts directly. And, as for the BBJ updates, we all asked for updates constantly.
If they did make inappropriate posts, all I can say is that I am certain that their intentions were innocent.

This seems inconsistent with the above. If what the "offenders" were doing really was promoting the room, what company would be unhappy about free advertising? That said, I have no idea what Harrah's corporate would actually think about it. I do know, however, that their immediate managers were aware of their activity in the thread since they mentioned it as they were bringing our complaints about issues in the room up at meetings.

We work with hundreds of authorized companies which are not advertisers who are communicate with the users of 2+2 daily for customer support - for free! These companies follow the rules, when its discovered that they do not follow the rules then they risk being banned. We cannot re-write the rules for this thread, we have millions of visitors every month whose needs we need to balance.
When this first came up I asked both how they might become "authorized" to post and I was told "it cannot be done, no way, no how." Now there are "hundreds" of companies who are allowed to post in some capacity?
We don't need the rules rewritten. We just want them to be allowed to post under the same rules that other companies are allowed to post.

I don't like the decision, but I understand your point of view. And, despite what you might think, no one (well, at least not me) is asking you to ignore your advertisers needs and rights and let them spam away with impugnity.
What we
do want is for the staff to be able to come into the thread and address our complaints and answer our questions, and to remain engaged with their patrons (us). One of the reasons Showboat is my main location to play is my interaction with the staff here on 2+2. Not because they said "HAI COME TO DA BOAT!! IT'Z THE NUTZ AND BORGATA HAS TEH GHEY!!" but because they care enough about the room and about us to come here and and interact with us when they
aren't being paid to do so.

I really do not think that this is the same situation as some knucklehead online affiliate posing as a legitimate user in the Zoo just as an excuse to post links to his site. They probably should have requested permission, or at least asked for clarification on what they can and cannot post about. They made a mistake. But as I said before, if they made inappropropriate posts, I firmly believe they did it with innocent intentions.
Is there no way they can be unbanned with explicit instructions about what posts are and are not acceptable, and resume their role as "customer support"?
