Moving from NC to FL, what are some cheap hotels in the area to stay for 1-2 nights.

Tonight at St. Johns they only had 2/2, 2/5, and 5/10 NL games (and a 1/2 LHE started up for some reason). But it was a Monday, so I presume action was slower than usual. Past experience on assorted days of the week indicates that they don't often have many games other than these (and assorted mostly-small-buyin tournaments). They probably get a LO8 or stud game going from time to time, but only small stakes.

The 2/5 (and presumably 2/2) game is absurdly good. 5/10 is usually very good too, but there are some decent regulars so it can be just kinda good sometimes.

Does the room get any limit games in the 8-16, 10-20, 15-30, 20-40 range?

I was at St Johns Friday and Saturday, and the biggest game going was a 5-10 that had a 1k-5k buy in. I bought in for 3k, ran it down to 1400 and then made an absurd bluff that worked as it was time to get to the 7 pm friday tourney.

I won the $100 tourney Friday night (34 entries) and then was crushing the $550 Saturday tourney (was 2/13 in chips and at really soft table). Obv I punted stack and finished 10th, the bubble spot.

Anyway, had good time there, the tuna takaki at the sushi bar was v good, and the folks were nice. Lots of really old players in the tournies who are extremely terrible. If the structures were remotely good, it would be a huge value to play the bigger tournies there (another $550 is this Sat at OP).

Alan, you wont get anything but Hold 'em there, and I didnt see anything but NL.

Thanks for the reply. So the tournament structure's aren't that great? Pushfest? Do they get at least good numbers?

101 entries for the 550 on sat, and should get more for the 550 next week because the guarantee is higher. Structure was bad - 30 min levels and slow play made it tough. With 16 players left the avg stack was less than 10bbs.

The WPT will welcome Jacksonville Greyhound Racing & Poker as its newest partner and the Jacksonville Poker Rooms as host sites for a televised WPT main event, a first ever domestic non-televised main event and one regional event during the Season X schedule.

...the Jacksonville poker room, which is anticipated to open later this year, will be their largest and crown-jewel facility. The Jacksonville room will host a televised WPT main event in Spring 2012.

Orange Park isn't bad. I'm 10mins from it and under rolled so I'm grinding it out at the 2/2 nl tables. I currently have too much free time on my hands, if you see me say hi. You'll usually catch me wearing some Hawaii related gear.

Supposedly Arlington area.

Anyways, anyone know if St John's is worth a weekday trip? Went one Saturday and it was pretty good but not sure if a weekday would be any good.

Coming into town Thursday after I get off work from Tallahassee, for a wedding this weekend. I am debating dropping the wife and kid off at her folks and heading to Orange park (10 minutes from their house). Is Thursday night ok? Also probably will play Friday and maybe Saturday depending on wedding and reception time.

Looks like they are open late (JCKC down the road closes at midnight) so playing after getting in and on Friday might be worthwhile.

I'm staying at the Rodeway Inn directly across from Orange Park. They have a weekly rate of $175 and a nightly rate of $40. It is an older motel but has a bed, shower and swimming pool.

The Orange Park room is open until 4am on weekdays and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.

Lots of action and players that are mad at their money.

Used to be but there is new management and they have really done a great job of getting things in order. It isn't the Hilton but it is clean and affordable.

This is good to know, I am thinking about going down and playing in the WPT event the first of August. I have a Holiday Inn priority membership, but the Holiday Inn that is right around the corner is kinda of expensive. $40.00/night sounds better. As long as it's clean, I wouldn't be spending a lot of time in the room anyway.

The place is packed w-sun. St. Johns is a lot smaller than OP. OP is where you want to go. A lot of ppl are still in the old mindset of FL poker i.e. buying in for 60-100 bucks at the 2/2 nl tables.
