Hey guys,

Heading to Macau on Wed for a couple days. Maybe longer depending on how it goes. Just wondering if there is any limit holdem anywhere in Macau? If so what stakes and which casinos?

For NL which casinos do you guys recommend for a first timer in Macau? I play a ton online/live at home but this HKD conversion seems like it could get irritating. Usually play 2/5nl-5/10/25nlCAD at home. From previous posts, im thinking Starworld, Venetian or Wynn?

Your input is greatly appreciated!

Al

There is currently no limit hold em in Macau, only NL.

If you're normal game fluctuates between 2-5 and 5-10, I would recommend starting at a 25-50 game here. That translates to about 3-6, but it plays bigger than a standard 2-5 game in the US. Once comfortable and adjusted to the conversion and the play, you can move up to 50-100 (6-12 +/-) or 100-200.

Good luck, see you soon.

Any regular PLO games that run 50/100 HKD and up?

I've played 50/100 PLO at Wynn and 100/200 PLO at Starworld. I believe the PLO game at Wynn runs regularly.

The Macau games play bigger than equivalent games in LA b/c LA games in that size range are usually capped at 100BB buyin. Buyin in the Macau games is 200BB, so they start out deeper and play bigger.

4 to 6 decks. The only shoe game in the whole city is at MGM. It's a 6 deck shoe with a 1k min. Depending on where you're from, you'll find it odd that the dealer only starts with one card (at every bj game), and takes the second after all players have acted. Basic strategy is a little bit different, you can find it online (but lets leave it at that, this is a poker forum).

100-200 or 200-400 (one or the other) has been running regularly at Wynn.

I'll be doing a multi-stop trip to asia in June for work, and as of now, it looks like I'll have a free day in HK.

How easy is it to get to the casinos in Macau from Hong Kong? I think someone mentioned a ferry, but how often and how late do those run? How long is the trip?

Ultimately the question boils down to, is it possible to easily do a day trip from HK to Macau?

Assuming it is feasible to do the day trip, taking into account game selection (availability & softness) and wait times to actually get onto a table, which would be the best room to go to for a few hours?

One final question: Does going to Macau from Hong Kong require a different visa in than what I'll have for entering mainland China & Hong Kong?

The HK-Macau ferry runs about every hour from about 7 am to 2 am [check published schedule when you get to the ferry terminal]. It takes about 45 minutes between ferry terminals, plus 5-15 minute taxi ride to the casinos [Cotai Strip is farther away]. No additional visa required. Getting into a game is usually quick; Wynn and Starworld are recommended for cash games.

In short, the "Macau day trip" is very feasible. I've made about a dozen overnighters to Macau while staying in HK and it's a reasonable commute.

Hong Kong was under british control before they return it to china in 1997. Why should they speak portuguese? You are confusing it with Macau where the poker games are abundant and where is played the highest stakes available

How easy is it to set up a bank account in HKD in either Macau or Hong Kong if you are here on a tourist visa and dont have a permanent residence here? Is it even possible?

Thanks!

We know, but this thread is for poker. The travel forum is the place to learn that you can't set up an account in Macau without a work visa.
