Hey everyone. I am moving to Chicago at the end of summer (from New Jersey) and my plan is to try to get my foot in the door at The Horseshoe Hammond. Right now, I am trying very hard to get some tourney dealing gigs at one of the Harrah's properties here in AC and try to get a transfer, but if somehow that fails how do you appl at The Horseshoe? Do they have an actual HR department or should I keep track on Harrah's website like they do for all of their properties (I know I might have answered my own question here but it doesn't hurt to try). I currently deal some private games here in Jersey and have dealt in Los Angeles (but still not in a casino property), so just getting an audition would be fantastic in the 'Ol Mid West. Either way, I look forward to meeting some of you Windy City players when the time comes....

I have the same question, but my best guess is the kiosks near the entrance from the marina garage. I got a mailer saying that "1/2 hour of play gets a free buffet" and you cash it in at the kiosks, but I'm not sure that applies to poker.

For the month of February you can get a free buffet with four hours of play at the poker tables. Make sure the dealer swipes your card when you sit down to play at the poker table. After playing for four hours go to the desk in the poker room, give them your card, and ask them for a coupon for the buffet. The coupons are good for a couple of days and have expiration dates on them.

I confirmed this with the front desk.

I am pretty sure that 1/2 hour of table games play gets you a free buffet. I remember seeing a sign or two advertising that when I was there

After you've put in your 4 hours of play (or after you finished for the session) go to the desk in the poker room and have them print it for you. Don't wait 'til the next day thinking that you have "credit" for the day before because apparently it doesn't work that way or at least it didn't in my case. I don't know all the details, but it seems to be a little tricky the way they do it. I finished playing one day at 3am and then went back at 7pm that same day and asked for the buffet comp that I qualified for the night before, but for some reason they couldn't give it to me.

The floorman suggested that I just get the comp right after I finish playing. It's good for 48 hours.

edit: You don't swipe your card at the buffet. You get a ticket in the poker room. It's good for either a free buffet or $15 towards the sandwich shop

You wont be eating crab legs at the shoe on the weekend seafood nights are tuesday and thursday. In order to get the buffet you play 4+ hours then go to the high limit area and they can print you out a voucher i got one last night. P.S. Watch out with the wasabi its deadly hot!!!!!!!

Do you expect the cash games to suffer at all because of the tourneys? 5/10nl in particular. I'm sure there will still be plenty of 2/5 games

Any other trout in town yet for this? I'm floating around.

I usually play in the cash games when the Shoe runs their big tournaments. It’s always been busier than normal for all games during this period.

None. A wifi "gadget" would work, especially one from Sprint.

So having spent several days around the 'Shoe, I have to say -- I really like this place, maybe my favorite poker room ever. The dealers are competent pretty much across the board, same with the floor, and the players on the whole are a lot more interesting/fun to be around than some of the creeps you find at Foxwoods or Mohegan (I'm from the Northeast). Generous promotions from Harrah's leading up to and during this tournament series, clean room, no cigarette smoke; I'm a big fan.

Around 180 as of 6pm; most dealers/floor staff were expecting between 500 and 700 playing tomorrow.

I went to the first McDonald's (Indianapolis Ave) and they looked at me like I was retarted when I asked about wifi. However after leaving the Casino I seen another McDonald's at the next line in the other direction leaving the Casino.

It has wifi here, its on State Line Rd.

Am I crazy or is the house % from the tourneys kind of high?

Any reports from the first tournament guys (including capacity, alternate arrangements, dealer and staff competency, structure being OK, etc.)? Best of luck to all...
