I agree. The dealer should be SEVERELY reprimanded for that mistake.

Mini review of Monday Madness:

I went to Foxwoods for Monday Madness yesterday. It was the first time I had played there since 2004. I put my name on several lists at 9:30AM, got into a 2/5 game at 10. 2/5 had little action, so when I got called for 1/2 15 minutes later I switched games. 1/2 had even less action, but I put in a marathon session anyway.

The good: 1) The crew of dealers was excellent, except for 2 with horrible attitudes. 2) The comps are very good. 3) The breakfast buffet was cheap and had a good variety. 4) Very little/no smoke from the casino makes its way down to the poker room.

The bad: 1) Monday madness draws in a lot of tight promo chasers. The games were beatable, but not as soft as elsewhere in New England. I'm not sure the promo is worth chasing due to the crowd it draws in. 2) The rake is awful, especially at 1/2, where $2 is taken out on the flop regardless of pot size. 3) The wait times are crazy at the beginning of the promo. If anyone is thinking of grinding the promo, I highly recommend waiting until 2:30 or 3PM to arrive. By that time there will be open seating and you can hop right into a game and play until the promo ends.

Just my opinion...

Floor followed correct protocol, but I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer was following different procedure he got from a different floor on a different day.
It's Foxwoods, remember......

$69 is base rate for the zip line. I am not an expert on the subject of zip line costs but doesn't that seem a bit steep?

Also, any word on the progress on the go-karts? My buds and I were hoping to hit it up to have a race that'll decide fantasy football draft order.

I get the joke but they have never wavered from their HH protocol since it has been implemented. There are many worse operated rooms throughout the country I see in my work travels. I'd place Foxwoods room operations in the Top 10% of the 40-50 rooms I've played when factoring in size and complexity with such a wide range of game offerings. We've been spoiled in NE with rake and expectations when you see the things I've seen in other parts of the country.

Anyone playing in Event # 1? I wouldn't be able to get down there until 1PM is it worth buying in at that time or would I be at a major disadvantage?

Halfway thru level 6 with 65 bigs sure why not? Plus you can tell everyone you made it past first break

I agree with you on Foxwoods; actually I think it's quite a well-run room, especially considering its size. The people who constantly complain about it ought to get out more.
But I wasn't completely joking: FW's biggest problem (IMO) is its size: because it's so big, it has so many dealers and floors that it's really hard to get everyone on the same page. I think it has actually been doing much better lately in regard to consistency between floors. (Getting rid of a couple of the weaker floors has helped here.)
In this case, if the dealer said he had been told that he could muck the hand before the floor saw it, and go to the cameras if necessary, I would guess that it's at least 50% that he actually got that from another floor on another day. (Where else would he have gotten this weird idea?)

Having worked at Foxwoods in the past, and comparing to rooms I work in west coast now, I must say that Foxwoods is pretty well run compared to many rooms. Like as some of you have mentioned, a lot of NE players are spoiled and some of them have never played outside of Foxwoods, and do need to get out more often.

On Monday the lady working the desk was horrible. She was obviously stressed out and not able to handle the amount of names on the list. She completely skipped over my name. I was watching the board and they called a table but she didn't say where it was. I tried to talk to her but we had a miscommunication. However the floors fixed the situation and got me seated so I have to hand it to them for that.

I can't speak to the quality of the current FW poker operation from a cash standpoint as I have not played cash there in about 6 years. I do agree that back then, consistency of dealer quality and floor decision-making was my only gripe, and by reading some comments, it doesn't seem like it has improved significantly.

However, what has soured me on FW in recent years is their decision to basically abandon rec players when it comes to scheduling their major tournament series. In the "old days", when their MegaStack series events were getting 1K entries without having 6 starting flights and unlimited re-entry, they had day 1s on Fri/Sat, with day 2 on Sun. Now, the majority of these events are run either mid-week, or have day 2's on Monday. Its just not even remotely worth the cost in terms of time and money to take time off and travel to the middle of nowhere CT for these events anymore.

Case in point... my poker budget is probably about 4x bigger today than it was 6 years ago when I would play tournaments at FW 5-6 times per year. I think I've played about 3 events in the last 5 years since they changed their MegaStack schedule.

Dealer quality improved enormously after dealers started keeping their own tips a few years ago. Still a few weak ones (the weaknesses show most in PLO and split-pot games), but most are at least pretty good now, IMO.
On balance, I think the floors are better now, too, since some of the weaker ones have gone.

There's actually dealers at foxwoods that result in an immediate 30 minute walk when they are coming in. I don't have that happen anywhere else. I can name 3 dealers right now, but that's not allowed here.

Alot of the staff are walking on eggshells lately as they walked out/released several dealers/floor recently for different reasons.

I notice alot of floor who previously wouldn't lift a finger are now working hard and dealers are for the most part on top of things.

It shouldn't take people losing their jobs for staff to suddenly be competent, but that seems to be the case.

Whatever works I guess.

Good strategy. Certain dealers put me on Mega-tilt. When they sit down, I wait until it is my turn to post the BB then take the 1/2 hour break. But that ends up costing me. I need to leave immediately! Not saying that they are necessarily horrible. Just that my reaction is to steam & the only solution is to leave the table. I don’t blame them for the cards that they deal, but the way they deal destroys me. Very likely an over reaction on my part but it is what it is.

Exactly. Just some dealers are bound to have the floor come over Everytime they deal at my table. They're not paying attention to what's happening at their table but watching everything else. They chit chat with the neighboring table or something.

I just walk, stretches the legs and gets the blood flowing, clears the head. I think it's good for those long sessions.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how early do I need to get there on Monday Madness to get a seat (mostly play 1-2NL) without a tremendous wait.

Don't forget Wynn and MGM will be opening soon. In fact I just played the Wynn Classic and the poker room manager said the room at Wynn Boston is going to be huge. If MGMs room is any good FW could have issues.

Do they sell postcards at Foxwoods? If so, where?

Try the gift shop (forgot the name) right by the Dunkin' Donuts across Hard Rock Cafe. They might have them

Get on list by 8 to 8:30 and you should be seated before 9:00.

There's also another place that might have them: near the Great Cedar Hotel, there's a place that sells Native American themed gifts. It's right next to Cake by Franck if you look at the property map from the Foxwoods website.

Hi guys!

I'm a recreational player and almost always play at Borgata. However, the upcoming tournament at Foxwoods caught my eye and I thought I might check it out (I've never even walked into Foxwoods) but I naively checked the hotel's rates and they seem insanely expensive! (Especially the weekends!)

I think playing in Vegas would be a cheaper option even with the flight from NY!
Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Not sure I'll be getting there quite that early (2hr drive) but I guess I'll take my chances and see what happens.
