Doc's has a great 1/2 game if you're ever in the Livonia/Northville area. 3 tables going at noon today. I ****ed around for 20 minutes, but not too bad--I was only in the game for $300 when I started mowing bitches down.

Helmuth was one of the first. He straddled on the button for $10. It was a good move cuz he was on the button, and he started the hand with about $120. Three ppl call the straddle, I call in late position, then Helmuth pops it to $60. ERRBODY folds to me. I had A6 ssssssuited, and detected shenanigans, so I shoved. As luck may have it, I had two overs and spiked a six.

That type of thing happened a lot for two hours. When I'd had enough, I handed the charity goons my racks, and the handed me about a third of what they should have and said, "does that seem right to you?" Clowns.

Easy way to make $1206, tho. I wonder if I should report it to the IRS.

I have never played poker in a casino. I was checking out tournaments on the Soaring Eagle web site and I saw this line:

DETAILS: $50 buy-in | $10 seat fee | $5 dealer add-on (optional)

I have a question.

1. Does this mean that this is a $50 + $10 tournament, in other words, a 20% rake? I have been told, including in this thread, that I can't make money playing charity tournaments because the rake is too high, and that I need to play in casinos--but if I can drive 1.8 miles to my local charity room or 102 miles to Soaring Eagle and the rake for freezeouts at both places is 20%, what is the point of ever going to a casino?

The point is to play cash where the rake matters less, or long structure tournaments with larger buy ins where skill matters more than a charity room hyper-turbo shove fest. That particular tournament sounds like ****.

They were asking for a $5 "dealer appreciation" in the tournament. No extra chips but it covered the cost of the dealers.

I have never seen that before but it appears to be a way to make the room profitable.

Ridiculous addition to the rake.

One cash table. Wild action one stack $2,000.

If you're talking about the $60 tourney tomorrow, the $5 will get you more chips. BRAVO says you get 4k to start plus 1k for the add on.. and if you sign up before midnight it's an additional 1k.

Yeah.. was crazy. Was sitting decent after the 1st break with 26k. Blinds were 400/800 when I look at 78 diamonds in early. I call. Guy 2 to my left makes it 3k. Guy next to him calls. Folds to me.. 2k more to win 8k.. I'll play at 4-1. Flop is 568 two spades. I check. OR shoves for 12k. Other guy folds. I replay hand in my head and think shove screams ak. I call. Sure enough.. ak.. turn.. king. No help on river.

Sigh. Couldn't recover after that.

Mad that the turn made his king. Not mad that I lost because of my call because I know my read was dead on and he needed to catch.

Oh well

sixty something runners at qoh last night. chopped 5 ways for $520 each, at about 1:30. i had 8bbs. there were two stacks slightly bigger than mine, one slightly smaller, one at like 2bbs. in three minutes all of those bb #s were going to be cut in half.

early on, man, it was like torture. my original table had these people, and for about 3 hours I could not get anything going against them: guy that acted out of turn at least 10 times, says it was his first live tournament, he also got the chip colors wrong several times. (my breakthrough hand was against him... i shoved w/ AK, he says "you know what, I'm going to call you" w/ like 5 to act before him... when it comes to him, he wants to fold. dealer makes him call, he has 3 5 of diamonds, doesn't hit). another guy tanked every single time he acted post flop, got this stupid grin on his face every time, it was soooo tilting.. another guy mistook the 5k chips for the 100 chips three times. two different guys were absolute spazzes, raising 30x pf w/ random hands. all this and I sat w/ 2/3 my original stack for 3 hours. could not get in the right spot w/ any of them. several times i had to stop myself from shoving some ****ty hand so i could go home lol...

Any suggestions for rooms with decent tournament structure semi-close (under 30 miles preferably )? Thanks.
Ciccarelli's in Shelby Township (Hayes and 21 mile) has 2 tournaments (2:00 and 8:30) a day for $40 each. Get there about 45 minutes early as it always sells out (60 runners plus 10 alternates). I haven't been to all of the charity rooms, but this is by far, the nicest facility.

the first couple of times he did it, he was warned and the dealer didn't make him act until it actually came to him. after that, he was held to whatever he verbalized each time, which was the right way to handle the idiot i think. i wish there were video of everything that happened at this table. you guys would be entertained for days.

8:30 start time can only make for a shorter tourney.

They now have 2 charities a day. They changed the starting chips from 30,000 to 25,000 and got rid of 2 blind levels (100/100 and 1500/3000). Still have 20 minutes levels. Definitely like the old structure better. Hopefully, they can convince Ciccarelli to open earlier so they could do a 1:00 and 7:00.
