As I said I'm glad the massage ppl are gone but they are popular and work just fine in the better poker rooms. My indifferent question has more to do w/ curiosity over how they manage to get rid of them w/i 3 days. IOW, wtf went so wrong that this is what happened?

It's not far from the airport, as long as it's not during rush hour and terrible traffic, maybe a 25-minute drive. The casino is actually located just off of the 101 Freeway (on Indian Bend), which you can then get on and drive straight to the I-10 and be in Tucson in about 90 minutes or so.

Good luck, if you decide to stay and play there! And safe travels!!

LOL at 90 minutes to Tucson. Maybe if you speed by 20 mph and don't get caught by radar, LIDAR, or VASCAR, and if nobody clogs up the left lane. Your chances of hitting the lottery for a hundred million are better.

Depends on how you are traveling down here, but on Saturday you should not have much traffic.

If you are going to be in Tucson over the weekend check out Casino del Sol - pretty lively 2-5 500 max buy-9n games on Friday and Saturday, and if you prefer limit they've been playing 15-30 on Saturdays (usually starts early afternoon and breaks around 10-11, though last night it was still going late.

You were right, according to Google Maps, the 120-mile drive from Talking Stick Resort to the University of Arizona is estimated to be a 106-minute trip, not the 90 minutes (or so) that I suggested. I'm assuming/guessing that estimate is based on driving the posted speed limit; so, being that most people seem to drive around/at least 5-10 MPH over the posted speed limit, I really do not think that my 90-minute estimate was farfetched. However, it is estimated to be 16 minutes longer than what I stated it would likely be, so I stand corrected.

By the way, Howard Beale and that_pope, what games/stakes do you guys typically play? I see that you both post in this thread frequently, so I'm just curious. Also, what do you guys think about the rake in the limit games at TSR?

I play a mix of 8/16, 2/3, and 20/40.

Don't let him fool you. He's actually an architect doing research into new designs for castle crenellations.

Interesting photo. I've been at a few $20-$40 tables over the years, but I don't recall seeing that chip-stack setup/protection before. Although, the stacked-up racks on the tables on the time rake games always seems to make for a cluttered felt, regardless. Also, ironic "nuts" card-protectors sitting on the player's club card.

Yeah, that was a tilt formation that I've done a few times when getting blasted. It hasn't proven successful. Glad dinesh got to covertly take a pic of it. Haven't pulled that stacking move in months.

The rake is pretty standard. As I recall its $1 for the bad beat plus 10% up to $4 on lower limits and then $7 time each half hour at 20/40 and above. You won't do much better elsewhere.

That was true a few years ago. Unfortunately it's now $2 promo instead of $1. Even more unfortunately, that is also now pretty standard.

I play 8-16 w/ a 4+2 rake which I hate. There is an anomaly w/ the rake at the 8-16. I've pointed it out to mngmt w/o effect. The rake is $1 BBJ before the deal. $2 more at the flop and $2 rake and $1 BBJ at $30. The 8-16 is therefore the only raked game that gets fully raked at 4 small bets, a common occurrence. The 20 game is much better at $7/down + you get freerolled into the $7 food comp every 8 hours of play.

OTOH, I'm taking a long break. Unless, pope, if mom throws me out of the house again.

So, this talk about the rake at the 8/16 game reminds me of a story I've been meaning to tell. It relates to to my observance that apparantly many regulars believe that if it is folded to the blinds, they (instead of chopping) can check it down and get a "freeroll" at the BBJ, I suppose because the promo $1 has already been dropped anyway.

So, I just moved to town a year ago and mostly play the 20/40 game, because they take so much money out of the smaller games, but I occasioanlly play the 8/16 game while waiting for a seat.

I was in the blinds, and it was folded around. We somehow confirmed that we both chopped as do most players, but as I was mucking the guy asked me if I "had anything", referring to a hand that could qualify for the BBJ. I replied that I didn't look at my hand before mucking, and he said I shouod have done so, because then we could check it down for a chance at the BBJ. I replied that it wasn't worth the extra $2 to me for the tiny chance at hitting.

He pretty much immediately (and indignantly) replied that it didn't cost anything to check it down. I confirmed that, yes, it does, and two other players at the table backed him up. I asked the dealer, who confirmed that I was correct, but they still didn't believe me. I asked two other off duty dealers playing in the game, who both confirmed that I was right, and they still couldn't believe it! We seriously had a fairly lengthy discussion about this with me and the 3 people who worked for the casino on one side (them quietly confirming me) and 3 other guys on the other side. I'm still not sure they ever believed us.

Just found it hilarious that three players (out of the other 6 at the table, not counting the dealers) who I'm sure were regulars who have played the game for much longer and for many more hours than me. all didn't notice that every time they have checked it down $2 extra has been dropped, and then vehemently denied they wer wrong about it. I guess cognitive dissonance kicked in when part of their brain realized they might have lost all that money checking it down over all those years...

Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I try to set my cruise control at 4 over the limit, and I spend a lot more time with it off than on. When I'm on that stretch of road it seems like everyone is trying to average 60.

Played there on Saturday, and got my ass handed to me playing 3/5... Turned trip kings with a Q kicker, and river came a safe looking 8. Bet, was re raised, and I called... Lost a $800 pot against pocket 8's that got there on the river. Had aces, flop comes K 3 8, I check, guy fires $45, I call, turn J, I check, dude fires the same bet...wtf? Mad sign of weakness, I raise, he only has about $100 so he shoves and I call. He was holding KJ... Was down to $100 ish, and didn't want to rebuy, I get 99 and it was raised to $3o, I shove dude calls cold calls with 3's, Original pre flop raiser folds, flop comes A K 4 turn 2 river 5... Good game

Yeah, you need to work on your social skills. Just ignore getting into this subject and lie that you indeed looked at your hand and it wasn't eligible. Who cares if you are right or not, spending this much time discussing it when we all know we are indeed right can only help to nit the game up even more (which it already has a bit of since you are in it).

Only time I will do this is during aces cracked and someone has aces.

I get your point, but then I also don't like wasting time while people check it down, and I would rather the extra $2 stay in the pockets of bad regs than go to the casino. Plus if it folds around the blinds, and I'm one of them, the game is already a little nitty...

Wondering what you mean about the aces cracked though. Instead of chopping, you check it down when one player has AA? I thought casinos were generally very strict about not paying out aces cracked promos when someone lets on they have them.
