Honestly probably my favourite thread on 2+2, so sick how you are crushing both poker and golf. On target for a 400k yr gross imo.

thanks ozzie, but to give out picks regularly is -ev for me for a bunch of reasons. Instead i'm happy to give out some backs (mostly longshots) for the majors. I send them out to my mates, so i'll post those here too.

thanks, great that you started watching golf from this thread lol... Its even more fun to watch when you have money riding on it. You go through the mental swings the golfer does when the pressures on, its a good rush!

As far as an online source for watching golf, i'm not to sure as i'm only really interested in watching it live because of the betting. Theres loads of live golf streaming available for free at reasonable quality.

You should be able to find a good stream using the following links:

Week 27 Update

Wasn't going to update until next week, but landed back in Philippines a few hours ago from my hols and am super jet lagged so going to stay up through the night and got a couple of hours to kill before i go wakeboarding.

Golf Betting

Flew to England on friday morning, so this week was just betting pre-off and hoping for the best.

European Tour

Alson Open de France

Wasn't looking too great, but ended up 2 horse race on the back 9 between Graeme Mcdowell (+$4000) and Richard Sterne (-$8000). Fortuantly Sterne Crumbled leaving a 4 shot victory for McDo.

Win Market: +$4016

PGA Tour

The Greenbrier Classic

Dream tourney (aside from my biggest red (Tommy Gainey) was joined 1st round leader ). All of the guys within 4 shots of the lead were +$4000 or more and leader Wagner was +$11500.

Didn't watch it but swede Jonas Blixt held firm, while Wagner ****ed it up.

Win Market: +$4726

All Markets

Was a great sweat watching bets come in while on holiday!

All Markets: +$14589

Open Bets

Update coming tomorrow. Should have posted these yesterday, as they all ( ) have gone shorter, but i wasn't expecting them to be that well backed and thought they would drift.

Back on Betfair to Win (probably worth laying a bit if they get in contention)

Jason Dufner 95
Bubba Watson 110
Bo Van Pelt 210
Fredrik Jacobson 260
Jimmy Walker 300
Fred Couples 370
Hideki Matsuyama 270
Scott Piercy 530
Robert Garrigus 650

Had 6 more but the prices have slashed and don't recommend them at todays price.

Been following ur blog for a while, and remember u from tables. U always seemed solid, with a tight grasp on the game.

I'm wondering as it seem like u multisite a lot: Do u tile all ur tables, and do u have some kind of TN? Do u do it cuz there is not enough tourneys on stars, when playing off-peak, or just for the softness of the diff sites?

I have probs even multisiting two sites (playing mostly on stars). I manage to lose hands and that one tournament from another site can take up very much of my space and focus. Say i'm playing 15 tables on stars, then I get two tables from FTP.

Gl with making bucks and actually making dough at betting is pretty baller

thanks crunchie, i do multisite as much as possible. I believe its best to maximize ev by playing the highest value tournaments online within the timeframe of a session that are within bankroll constraints.

EG say you have a 5k bankroll and playing 100bi max buyins, playing on stars only your probably going to have to mix $10-$50 tournaments to get 15 tables up quickly. Compared with playing all the sites you can lose the lower end of the buyin and instead only play $20-50, meaning a higher abi therefore $ per hour.

I was doing some extensive research on game selection over multiple sites, but it turned out that for off peak tournaments with my bankroll and ability i should just be playing as high as possible, so have discontinued it.

The crucial software i use to multi-site effectively is Stack and Tile, i tile my tables and it automatically places the tables into a tile on my center monitor when they pop.

As far as the ability to play more sites, i think it just takes practice. Add one site at a time until you are completely comfortable with it and then add another and so on.

Week 28 Update

Poker

Strange week, i've been really jetlaged so been playing super off peak games. Had a lot of golf betting to do this week with the open on, so mostly been really tired when playing a session which hasn't helped.

I feel pretty rusty, given i've been on holiday and havn't spent much time on my game recently. I felt like i've been spewing pretty bad.

While i'm quite excited to start a session, by the end i've started to feel pretty bored. Playing a reg speed to win $500 just doesn't really get my juices going anymore. In my last session i tried to alieviate this by getting stoned when i had 7 tables left. At the time this seemed like a good idea, but just leads to half hearted slack play

So i took a day off from poker yesterday to clear my mind and set aside this morning to fix my mindset before the golf starts.

Old Thread

I remember i went through something similar last year when i went busto, i remember at the time i playing lowstake mediocre poker and i needed to give myself a kick up the ass. So i skimmed through my old thread.

45mans and beyond

It was pretty good thing to do and a great benefit of keeping a PG&C. I now remember how hard i worked to claw my way from busto to build a roll, and now i'm in this position i need to remember to myself not to blow it and that i've still got a lot of work to do to achieve the poker goals i've set aside in this thread. Online gambling in 2013 is still pretty tough and getting harder as poker sites die, and high value tournaments dont run as often as they used to. I can't allow myself to get complacent.

Hard Hours

Part of it is a mental leak that i think i've had during my holiday where i posted low variance annual graphs and have subconciously thought to myself that i can print money if i put the hours in, but i need to put the "hard" hours in to get where i want to be, the hard hours being:

a) Long Sessions where i put eveything into it, doing everything i can to max out my EV and am mentally exhausted once its done.

b) Proper Reviews where i spent all the time required to work out the best play for hands. I need to get back into doing the following:

i) discussion on our semi-dead strat forum.
ii) range analysis work in excel.
iii) keep myself up to date on the latest poker software.

Time Allocation

Recently after i've done my sports work, gone gym etc i've got 4-5 hours work left that i can do in a day, i've been rushing my review and then playing a short turbo filled session. Instead of that i should do a long review of my play, take a couple of hours off, sleep early and prepare myself for a long session the following day. Hopefully that will enable me to allocate my working hours more productively.

Process Orientated Goals

One thing i noticed in my last thread is that i wrote out a lot of process to help my achieve my goals, which i've recently stoped doing. A lot of stuff i wrote out back has been learned to the conscious competence or the unconscious competence level, and therefore doesn't need to be written out, but i definately will start writing out this kind of stuff again if my mental leaks persist.

Week

So yeah, obviously a bad start to the month.

Golf Betting

Only bet after round 3 this week.

European Tour

Scottish Open

A Win for Phil giving me a loss.

Win Market: -$1110

PGA Tour

Birdie Fest with a weak field as all the top players make their way to Scotland for The Open. Went pretty ****ty, and by the time the playoff was underway i'd already hedged it at a -$3800 loss. Jordan Speith took it down.

Win Market: -$3829

All Markets

Made a bit back in the 2balls and place markets but bad day at the office.

All Markets: -$3729

July Goals

Right now i just want to put in the hard hours mentioned above, so no process orientated goals, but i'll add them next update if i feel i require them.

Week 29 Update

Poker

Didn't play during the open was concentrating on the betting for 2nd biggest week of the year.

Golf Betting

The Open Championship

Pretty disasterous event from start to finish. 3 of my biggest lays near the top of the leaderboard Mickleson, Stenson and Westwood, 2 & 3 balls also went pretty badly.

During Round 4 the market was slow to react on Phil after he got up and down on the 16th, i was kinda pissed at myself not to back Phil heavier at 2.9ish. After his 2nd shot on 15th made the green, i backed him at around 1.5 for $5k or so to reduce my loses, and then when he hit the 18th i lumped on $8k at 1.06 as it was a virtual lock at that point, saved myself around $3k in loses with the inplay betting.

Win Market: -$14874

PGA Tour

Sanderson Farms Championship

Woody Austin won a 3 man playoff to negate some of my Open loses.

Win Market: +$2790

Week 30 Update

Poker

Got 1 long session in, wasn't in the mood to work last week, lack of motivation to put the effort in so i just took most of the week off, just putting on some golf bets for a few hours and playing computer games. The session i did play i thought i played pretty well, b game, just didn't close out any tournaments.

Week

Month

Golf Betting

Everything was looking pretty great for the first couple of days, was up a few k in 2 - 3 balls, round leader markets, PGA was looking a bit **** but not too terrible, will explain my saturday onwards below.

European Tour

Russian Open

**** event, upgraded from a Challenge Tour event to make it an Official European Tour Tournament. Sky didn't even bother showing it on TV. Basically only the European Tour journeymen bother to make the trip as they need to get some more euros to hold on to their playing card.

So going into day 3 my only big red near the top of the leaderboad was Michael Hoey and market ev +$2.5k or so, come back from the Gym to find that i lost every 3ball but 1 and Hoey has a 5 shot lead.

Wastn't awake early enough to bet Round 4, so didn't hedge anything and Hoey held on for a comfortable victory.

Win Market: -$5482

PGA Tour

Canadian Open

Strongest field ever for a pretty average tournament. Most guys want to take the week after an Open off, long travel from a draining Open, and WGC Bridgestone and PGA Championship over the following 2 weeks. However a lot of them are sponsered by RBC and thus required to turn up.

Wasn't looking great going into R3 with Hunter Mahan a big red with a 2 shot lead. I decided to bet $4k on him at 2.52 to reduce my exposure. Go out for my mates bday and come back to see that he withdraw because his wife went into labour. It felt like i literally flushed $4k down the toilet...

The market was looking very red but Snedeker was evens so i got a lucky escape from that tournament and he held on to his 1 shot overnight lead.

Dustin Johnson was tied for the lead but on the 17th he hit his tee shot drive OB and made tripple in only a way DJ knows how. After the Hunter Mahan debacle this felt like a win.

Win Market: -$-122

European Senior Tour

The Senior Open

This event was going like a dream, Bernard Lagner (+$8000) 3 Up after day 3. During round 4 i went to bed and he had 3 shot lead over Mark Wiebe (-$4000) with a couple of holes to go trading at 1.1.

Low and behold 2 shot lead on the last hole, on his 2nd shot he elects to not layup short, keeping the pot bunkers in play and goes in one. Duffs his 3rd shot against the lip, out on the green in 4 then misses his bogey putt to double and take it to a playoff. After 2 playoff holes its dark and they go back at 8am the next day.

FS, so i spend the morning creating a Simulator for a playoff, and duduce that the value is still on Langer, and decide not to hedge it.

So i watch 3 playoff holes today, unable to get my hedge price matched and langer goes par - bogey - bogey to lose it.............

Win Market: -$3995

All Markets

On the Web.Com event Spencer Levin (+$2700) lost a play off, so i drew a blank on that event which was looking great.

This golf betting has reared its ugly head. bleh.

All Markets: -$7403

Week 31 Update

Poker

Been grinding pretty hard and getting a good review in daily. Just been making sure that i play every day once i've done my sports bets and full review. (day off yesterday tho). My last tournaments usually have been those 2 $82 hypers on PS (midday ET, midnight for me). Trying not to play too much later else my bodyclock gets later and later from long working hour days.

Started the week on my C game but on sunday i felt like i was on my A game for the first time in ages. Allocating proper review time and then grinding a lot really has helped me play better.

Golf Betting

World Golf Championships - Bridgestone Invitational

Got this one completely wrong, was looking good after day 1 but Tigers incredible 2nd round 61 made my bets go splat. When watching it i was mesmerized by his performance, it didn't really dawn on me what had happened until i woke up the next morning. I sometimes dream about golf as i usually have it on before i goto sleep, sometimes i have these nightmares where i lose ****loads. So when i woke up it took me a little while to realise that i had lost about -$10,000+ overnight and it wasn't a dream. (had layed $6k @ 1.5 (-$3000) Tiger vs Matsuyama 3Ball, + big loss in Win Market).

I lay in not wanting to get out of bed until like 3pm, trying to figure out whats been going wrong. I've got some good ideas, but to implement them its probably like 2 - 4 weeks work. I've set aside this month to play poker, but i'm not sure whether to wait until the off season and grind lots of poker, or just try and curb the bleed in my sports betting. I'm opting to just grind poker for the moment.

Win Market: -$6850

Women British Open

Anyhow on a brighter note, i took on InBee Park and this time it payed. Na Yeon Choi (+$7000) and Stacy Lewis (+$5000) were my main 2 picks and Na Yeon Choi had a 3 shot lead going in to the back nine, but she crumbled leaving Lewis to pick up the pieces.

Win Market: +$5162

Another bad week, In the WGC I was also heavily against Stenson and he performed again, leading to bad results in the Winner W/O Woods market and top nationality markets, and place markets went to **** on the final day. Was an atrocious event for me.

The Week Ahead

So still downswinging. If i'm honest i've depressed / pissed most of the week, i feel like i'm letting myself and other people down by this downswing, partly by being a bit slack for a couple of months workwise. Heh, if you ever take gambling for a living for granted it comes back a bites you.

Right now, I'm just trying to do everything in my power to spend all my time doing +$EV stuff to get out of it;

Grinding lots of poker
Really Trying to Play A Game
Full Poker Review / Study Time
Efficient Time Use when Sports Betting, not wasting time pricing up low liquid markets.
Working Out Regularly
Sleeping in so i'm fresh, but up early on day off to right body clock.
Restricting alcohol and doobs
Eating Regulary and heathily.

(If anyones got anything else that can add to that list feel free to mention it).

Kindy funny, i lose lots of money gambling so i gamble as much as possible to get out it, silly life we lead.

So LETS GOGOGO, hard grind coming for the rest of the week, and PGA Championship... LETSGETA****INWIN!

PGA Championship

Kinda a make or break event for me the season. After my recent bad run a bad result could have really have decimated my roll. Wednesday night i was pretty anxy about it, frustrated by poker, finding it tilting me, so just took the time off.

Day 1

Got off to a ok start with Adam Scott and Jim Furyk tied for the lead netting me +$2500, but i lost -$3000 in the 3balls.

Day 2

Bad day in the 3balls losing -$2000, but Phil and Tiger (both big lays for me) way back making the win market look pretty good.

Day 3

Set up all my bets but then couldn't connect to betfair for some reason?? So wasn't able to place any bets, had to go out for family trip that night, felt i missed out on a ton of value. Got back at 7am to see win market looking very good, but very swingy, with the guys in single digit odds ranging between +$20000 and -$16000.

Day 4

Again couldn't connect to betfair which was increadibly annoying and stressful, but managed to get through on my laptop. Was only able to do a few bets on the win and place markets, so missed out on the 2balls again.

To make up for it i decided i was going to do some in play hedging, as i was opened up to such a huge swing, by the time the event started my positions were....

-9 Jim Furyk +$21000
-8 Jason Dufner +$15000
-7 Henrik Stenson -$13000
-6 Jonus Blixt -$3000
-5 Adam Scott -$2000
-5 Steve Stricker +$10000

After the inplay trading got Dufner up to...

Win Market: +$16988

Week 33 Update

Poker

How to Be a Better Poker Player by Sean Lefort

I started the week by watching this excellent 2 part series on "Run It Once". It discusses how to be a better poker pro and covers a bunch of interesting topics, lots of food for thought. I'm going to be referencing it during this update and i've been thinking about a bunch of this stuff over the last week.

BodyClock

My bodyclock got really ****ed up in my attempt to right it, was waking up at 11pm, so ended up playing couple of peak time sessions.

Game Selection

In the past when i've played peak time i've been reggin up the 100r's to max out my $ EV. However what i've found is that it makes the $ swings way higher then my typical grind, resulting in my ABI rocketing up 2.5x then normal ($100 instead of $40).

I mentioned previously how i usually **** up the final table of the $265ko as i don't make the correct adjustment against the better caliber regs, and i think this has been the case when playing peak time in the past. I think if i'm playing peak time i need to slowly work my way up the buyins getting comfortable against the better players and stakes, rather then just jumping in at the top.

One thing Lefort talks about how you are in some respects in control of your results, by the amount of volume and stakes you play. He also states that you should put some thought into how the swings are going to affect you personally before you play if **** were to go bad.

I figured losing over $5k on the day would have kinda depressed me if i were to blank, but under $4k would be ok, and that i would be happy on losing that knowing i made a good investment but it didn't pan out that day.

So long story short, i cut out everything higher then $215, bar the FTOPS $100r. I ran good and had my biggest score of the year! Very happy as it was a regspeed too, as my bigger reg speed final tables havn't gone that well recently.

Cashes Over $1k

1st PS.fr €100 "Night On Stars" - €6750
1st Merge $33 2r1a - $1250
2nd PS $35/180 - $1150

Tilt Log (skip this bit)

For some reason, was playing an offpeak session yesterday, i went on a huge monkey tilt, climaxing for about 2 mins only having 2 moves, "All-In" and "fold". I caught grasp of myself and was thinking WTF am i doing and went for an un-reg all. When i get like this i keep a tilt log to try and find out the cause.

Connection Problems - A huge Typhoon hit Philippines and my adsl was dead, and my cable was really dodgy, shouldn't have played. The cable was off before my session and i expected to take a day off because of it, but then it came back, so maybe i was also in day off mode and found myself working. In truth i didn't really want to be playing that day.

Big Equity Beat - Lost KK < AJ for the CL on a 51 hyper final table. Off peak the biggest buyins are Hypers and Turbos, so how u run in them determines how your day goes. I think busted 4th in a $82 hyper again having chip lead really frustrated me.

Too Many Tables - Was 24 tabling, as i felt like i had to make up my equity of playing a much lower abi by increasing table count, with my connection issues i was timing out a lot, tilting me. I was also trying to manage my sports bets at the same time, which was stupid when playing so many tables.

Lack of Sleep - The night before i was awoken about 3 times due to the golf tournament, and i had to do some hedging in play, anxious restless sleep. Need to take Mondays off.

Taking Everything Personally - I shouted "**** YOU" a number of times when my opponents kept being at the top of there ranges. Entitlement Tilt...

Acting Really Fast - I guess just wanting more action, maybe due to cutting my ABI by half compared to my previous 2 sessions. Need to be more aware of myself when jumping around in stakes.

Anyhow, its good to write out all that ****, so i can reference it later if i get tilt problems again.

Golf Betting

Most of the golfing world had eyes on the Solheim Cup, but i wasn't able to bet on it, so instead we had way bigger then usual stakes riding on the unspectacular Wyndham Championship on PGA Tour, a Champions Tour and Web.Com Tour events.

PGA Tour

Wyndham Championship

Liquidity was poor, no one really cares on how the guys at the bottom of the PGA tour get on, so was difficult to get anything decent matched except in the Win market, so a big variance fest.

Got off to a good start, up $3k after day 1 but then **** started to go sideways a bit. By end of round 3 the win market was looking like:

25% chance of losing -$15000
16% chance of losing -$10000
and then the rest was +$3000 to +$24000

As all the other markets were not attracting much interest, my whole week was probably going to come down to a shot or too. So for the first time this year i made some (in my view) -EV hedges before the final round to reduce those large exposures by 33% or so.

My thought process was that the $ev gain of not hedging was not worth the happiness EV loss of losing a significant amount just as i was pulling my out of my downswing. In actual fact it would be much better to not put myself in these positions and make sure that i do not overbet preoff.

Anywho, i was woken up by the commentary and the typhoon outside to hear it was about to go to a playoff between Jordan Spieth (-$5500) and Patrick Reed (+$3500). I didn't wanna swing so much, so hedged it to have only a $1500 swing.

(Patrick Reed Won)

Win Market: -$235

Web.Com Tour

News Sentinel Open

Giving this one a mention as i had my biggest win on this tour picking the winner, Peter Malnati at 33/1. Nice Jacket.

Win Market: +$4003

All Markets

Won +$1500 on the Champions tour and did ok in place markets to make it just a 5 fig week.

All Markets: +$10089

August Poker Goals

[] 1500 Games - $15fo+ $5r+ (705) <-- looking out of reach, struggling to get volume in, sometimes i think about playing and just cringe. Will shoot for 1k games.
[] $20,000 Sharkscope profit ($12026)
[] Max 1 Beer Per Day <-- Massive Fail
[] No Doobies <-- Massive Fail
[] No Computer Games <-- Massive Fail
[] No Skipping Gym Session with Trainer () (6/9)

The Week Ahead

Golf

Loads of Golf now the Major Season is over. The Fed Ex Cup Playoffs begin this week, 1st stop being "The Barclays", with all the big names on show. The European Tour starts up again after 5 weeks in the duldrums, and doesn't skip a beat until the season ending Dubai Championship, so lots for me to bet on!

Elongated Poker Burnout

Pokerwise i feel like i just want to get those last 300 games done, but TBH i'm feeling a massive elongated burnout from poker. Keeping a PGC for 18 months, pushing myself most months to pump out a lot of volume is taking its toll on me. I want to put in the kind of volume i used to, but at the same time i dont want to push myself to the brink where i'm going to need to take significant time off from the game.

Anyhow, see you next week with a shorter update.

Thread delivers as usual. Nice update.

A question, do you ever go out and party? Do you have any friends/pokerfriends in your area that you go out with?
