The best part was that I can’t think of a single reg or even anyone that played there every once in a while as an off-room that partook in the boycott.

The only people who boycotted the Venetian were people that lived in Kansas City or Texas or something.

It had literally ZERO effect

Yeah. Online players boycotting a live poker room where most of them never play at anyways outside of a couple weeks in the summer. And where the room makes virtually no difference to the overall business whether it's there or not seems like it wouldn't have much of an effect.

But imagine the narrow world view and inflated sense of self you must possess to believe it did.

because it's probably relevant - i left because they bungled the Department Manager situation - let a good guy leave, hired an idiot, i was the 9th or 10th person to leave the department in under a year. like 4 months later they canned the DM. the next DM, heard she was really really good, is now the Office Executive and the current DM is guy i used to work with who is a really good guy to work with.
Every company I leave seems to be out of business shortly afterward

My favorite was the gay advocates boycott of Chikafil actually raised profits. My theory is that people who knew nothing about it kept hearing the word "Chikafil" and they starting wanting a chicken sandwich.

short day on the hill cuz we are going kite skiing this afternoon. It was blowing 100mph over the peaks last night and has backed off...today should be EPIC with some reasonably stiff winds and bluebird skies
Glad to hear SPC is digging the speed stuff. Gotta scare yourself now and again while laying some arcs.

Have Saturday booked at Winter Park. Hopefully the Mary Jane trees are holding onto something. We've had some strong wind lately with 85mph gusts here last night. Apparently WP closed a decent amount today bc of it. Hopefully that gets outta town before the weekend.

Weekend reservation slots are few and far between so I'm looking to get my midweek on once we get more snow.

In life, there are basically two ways to make money.

The first is to work hard to improve and innovate so as your product is better and more efficient than the competitor's.

The second is to try limiting your competition so as to extract all sorts of rents from the lack of competition.

While the first way isn't perfect (too much competition leads to the paradox of choice or supply creating demand etc), all in all, it leads to better outcomes, namely providing cheaper & better products to the consumer.

The second way eventually leads to worse, more expensive products.

Because insecurity sucks and we love the sense of security, we are all tempted by the second way. But the first way is more beneficial for society.

I don't see how professional poker players working on their games are trying to limit competition like Adelson did. Poker is a zero sum game and you can argue that poker professionals really don't provide value to society. That's different though.

If you want to compare what Adelson did to poker players, you would have to find poker players who lobbied for sites to ban certain grinder heavy countries like Ukraine or Belarus. I know a live poker reg told me we ought to do something about the foreign pros visiting US casinos, but good luck with that. The best argument you can make is that if some pros, they would have banned competition - and there are definitely some who would, but no one really has the opportunity or the power to do so.

PS. Also worth mentioning, though not sure how many care, but Adelson was very committed to the cause of ****ing Palestinians.

Also, if you were a live pro or made a good chunk of change on the side and then a poker site owner went ahead and successfuly lobbied the US government to ban brick and mortar casinos, you would have had a very different perspective on the situation.

Maybe gambling should function under free market principles but it never actually has. Casinos get permission from the local authority (civil or not) and pay a hefty share for their right to book bets. To my knowledge the only somewhat competitive market is Las Vegas, I guess the strip now has a total of 3 companies?

Online poker didn't pay to play so it was always doomed. Scapegoating one gambling don was like the kids who blamed one guy from Metallica for the fall of Napster.

Adelson has done a ton of **** to **** over a ton of people who are not gamblers. his reach was much further than LV, casinos and internet poker. it gets too political extremely quickly once you start branching out, which is why i really didn't go into it.

Euros downsize USA #1 Booze

Distillers in the U.S. can now use the smaller 700ml bottle that is standard in most parts of the world. . .

But if history is any guide, the price break won’t actually happen. That means you’ll probably be paying the same for less.

I realize Adelson isn't great, but I have run phenomenally well at the V, so it's where I start off every time I go

Had a +$3700 3-day weekend staying at Palazzo, all at 2/5

Approve of all but the Sauza (never had it).

After recent Christmas gifts I have something like 80 bottles of booze in the house. (Not counting wine because who the **** counts wine?) Not quite the lush I was in the past and it is just piling up again. Have a few bangers in there I need to try but never get around to it.

What TJE said.

I replenished my supply of Christian Bros Brandy. I considered a 1,750 ml bottle but then I'd have a drinking problem.

Also decided against the natural and artificially flavored honey flavored version. because then I'd have a sweet tooth, and besides it's already brandy.

Flag Attila aka Jake Angeli/Chelsea charged with two offenses so far, 1.entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and 2. with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. Chansley was taken into custody today.

Both charges seem correct and seem to be redundant. I doubt double jeopardy will help him.

It's actually hilarious to hear a poker player call someone else a shitty person. Hysterical really.
It's not remotely similar from a moral standpoint. Poker players aren't using violence to get what they want. The government is when they prohibit activities of mutual consent between adults. All laws are enforced through the threat of violence. Spending a bunch of money lobbying the government to use violence against peaceful people, just to suppress competition for your business makes you scum.

I'm not a shitty person for playing a game. I don't force anybody to play poker with me. Using violence to prevent me from playing a game with consenting parties is shitty.
