Of course that's depressing too. But the realization that it's very unlikely I'll have sex with a 22yr old (for free) again is also a pretty big downer.

Tangent: You know it's funny. 90% of the planet either doesn't know or is afraid to admit that life is ultimately pointless and yet this realization doesn't bother me in the slightest. However almost 100% of the planet is content with the fact that we only live a handful of decades, and this reality pisses me off to no end.

Then why does religion exist?

Well that's a very simple question but the answer is pretty complex. Tomes have been written on this question. No matter what my answer is I highly doubt I can make it satisfactory in just this post...but I'll try in vain anyways cause I'm a good sport.

To start out as simple and perhaps as vaguely as possible, religion exists because we have many glitches in our primate brains. We have many cognitive biases that make something like religion developing very probable. We are programmed (by evolution) to have a tendency to see or apply agency where none exists (Ghosts, spirits, Zeus caused lightning, etc). We are programmed to be promiscuous pattern seekers to the point where we see or create patterns that don't exist.

Humans are also extremely illogical beings prone to believing things based on wishful thinking or fears (Heaven, a sky daddy who loves us, hell for those who like the idea of cosmic justice, etc). We would rather have a conspiracy theory than no theory at all. Said in a different way, if we don't have an explanation for something we're more likely to make one up than simply say, "I don't know."

We also are programmed to think teleologically. We assume everything has a purpose whether we have a good reason or not and we assume that every thing that's designed must have a designer (besides the fact that this reasoning is fallacious evolution has shown us a designer isn't necessary). This short video does a good job of explaining how creatures with purpose and design on the brain can come up with the God concept.

To conclude, a more simple answer to your question would be this. Somewhere along the evolutionary time line, ancient humans became intelligent enough to ask the question in some form or another, "Why are we here?" But of course they were not even close to being smart enough to answer this question, (In fact the most intelligent people on our planet today think this question is nonsensical) yet those ancient humans answered that treacherous question anyways, and that's where religion/God(s) come from.

Calling the turn to see if he was FSDR'ing is better than folding imo.

This is a horrible spot cause every non-braindead tag in the world knows that card just ****ed the hero the majority of the time. The question is how often they will pull the trigger and make a move and the answer unfortunately is difficult to obtain. If I had to guess I think DrV is right here, call the turn and hope/pray you don't get outleveled on the river.

So far I'm putting V4P, Sedeete, and myself in the "Thought it was lifechangingly awesome" camp. Since CLEARLY the democratic process is the best way to decide truth, you're down 3-1 at the moment. Actually, I'm gonna throw in TheHip41 and make it 4-1 cause I know his tastes are very refined. More votes will be coming but I think you're in trouble on this one.

What kind of hands do you think he would fsdr here? Given BTN is a fish and may not fold much or could easily have Tx here and may not fold.

I'm feel a little mind-raped right now. ILP's in my top 3 favorite 2+2 posters and I usually take DD's word as scripture. But I didnt think that was worth more than a C-. I'm so confused

On what principle may I ask? (You're certified to teach English and you misuse the word principal. Seriously, how do you live with yourself?)

Also, don't worry, I can speak for you on this one. Your hat is going in the ring unless you watch the video and say otherwise.
