Leaked pilot thoughts:

Spoiler:
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. As I have said before I'm not usually a fan of zombie movies and whatnot but this being AMC I of course gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised.

Visually I thought it was excellent. All the zombies looked great, the shots of the main character riding into the city were amazing and even the zombie headshots and deaths were cool. I wonder how expensive this show is for AMC.

One of my concerns going in was the casting and I'm still a little unsure about it. The main guy did better than I expected and I thought the black guy was very good, but the cop partner being that guy and the wife being the girl from Prison Break I don't know about. As an aside the wife and cop partner romance storyline seemed kind of cheesy but hopefully it's just a minor thing.

As for the plot well nothing much happened yet but it's the first episode so that's to be expected. Overall I would rate the episode as promising and I'm actually quite excited about the show now.

Yeah loved the pilot. Even from a guy who loves zombie stuff, this was much better than most of what i've seen.

Spoiler:
didn't like it all that much. There were so many scenes that were done better in other movies and I couldn't help comparing them to those and the pacing felt kinda off and it was all a bit slow. Any chance we get to see flashbacks or something to the outbreak? Always liked that part.

Liked that the zombies still have memory or whatever you wanna call it though and I hope we get to see more horse riding zombie killing action. That has the potential to be pretty bad ass.

Spoiler:
I thought the first ~20 minutes completely sucked. After that, it was really great. Total leaked version was 67 minutes. If they can condense the first 20m into maybe 5-6 minutes or something for the premiere, that might be worth considering. Because I seriously was going to turn this off...then the black kid hit hero in the head with a shovel, and it got awesome from that point on...

Also,

Spoiler:
too many graphic headshots. do not like that, at all. I realize I'm probably in the minority on that point.

Really enjoyed the opener. Wasn't great, but really solid. High hopes for the series.

Spoiler:
I thoroughly enjoyed the episode, although it did drag a little bit in the beginning. Great looking zombies and scenery.

I was wondering how the guy was possibly going to escape when he foolishly wondered into Atlanta (even though the highway entry lanes were deserted and the outgoing lanes packed, huge LOL). The whole tank scene, especially when he was seemingly trapped when he crawled underneath it, was excellent.

Definitely watching this series when it comes out.

Spoiler:
I loved the part in Atlanta - good tension. I thought they might be setting up an awesome fake out where the established main character was going to die under the tank and the focus would of the series would move to the band of survivors living in the tents.

Unlike others I enjoyed the first twenty minutes. Nice tension and atmosphere when he wakes up in the hospital and is trying to figure out wtf is going on.

Also liked the mercy kill scene in the park contrasted with the husband attempting to kill his zombie wife. I liked the reminder that these zombies were once loved ones and friends and are thus deserving of a little mercy.

Finally, I appreciate they went with Romero zombies instead of 28 Days Later zombies.

The pilot was awesome. This show seems like the real deal, but a few points:

1) The show needs to kill off a main character early in the season. I'm thinking either Grimes' wife or son.

In zombie movies, part of the excitement comes from knowing that any character can die at any moment. When you make a continuous TV show, you run the risk of your viewers not getting scared because they know most of the characters won't die. They need to address this issue by killing off a seemingly vital character so that the viewers know that everyone's fair game.

2) Are we really led to believe that in this day and age, a person doesn't know what a zombie is? Or are these stories taking place in an alternate universe where zombie movies don't exist? Unless you're a hermit, you've seen a zombie movie, so an explanation about them would be unnecessary in a zombie apocalypse. Not a big deal, it just bothers me a bit.

3) lol @ them all taking a shower at the same time. The clear optimal strategy there is to have one person shower while the other 2 stand guard. Even if you think the place is fortified, you shouldn't be taking any risks.

I think the first season is set at only 6 episodes, which is unfortunate, but I guess they don't want to take a risk on a full 12 or 13 episode run to begin with.

I'm sure it will deviate from the comics in some serious ways, but does anyone have an idea roughly how much the source material the first season is expected to cover?

You would have to accept that zombies didn't exist in the show's universe prior to this event. This is the case with most zombie movies. Shaun of the Dead was an exception but it was a comedy so it was able to milk "the rules" for laughs.

yes, the quality is bad. I looked for 720p, couldn't find it. Only found <400mb on every TV station I looked at. I rate it asstastic, ie, the very bottomest of my viewing range (we need more crappy poker analogies, ducy)

So psyched for this. AMC's track record so far is great. Hope this isn't where they stumble.

God damn this show is intense. Superb opening scene (from start till first commercial). I liked it a lot. No dialogue, just wondering around, getting a picture for what we already know...you are royally ****ed.
