I really enjoyed the first episode of The Tomorrow People. Good cast (Peyton List!), excellent use of powers, and the overall arc seems compelling.

That show has enough traction in here that someone should make a thread.

Big TV shows junkie, running out of stuff to try/watch:

Stuff im watching that's currently airing: Homeland, The Big Bang Theory, Sons of Anarchy, Boardwalk Empire. Until recently: The Bridge, Breaking Bad (ldo). Also The Walking dead resuming ("i'm only watching to enjoy the OOTV thread").

I know there are shows i'm not caught up on and I need to watch (Deadwood, Rectify and a few more) but I was wondering if you could provide me with a list of the good stuff that STARTED last summer/this fall ? Nothing major seem to have started for the last 6 months or something, or nothing making big noise here in Europe anyway. Am I missing out on something in particular ?

Can be comedy or drama really, just good stuff, i'm pretty open minded.

Anyone else read the Grantland article criticizing The Bridge for having a false premise about Juarez, namely that violence isn't directed at women there? I'm debating committing to this series — do you agree with the criticism, is it a bit "Hollywood" in the portrayal?

Yeah, I read it, and it was a pretty terrible article. Their big issue was that most of the violence was committed against boys and men in real life, while the show has a focus on "Lost Girls of Juarez". The article basically idealizes Juarez, while saying that something like 97 percent of murders there go unsolved (ideal environment if you're a murderer or serial killer, I suppose). Juarez is a messed up place, it's an important border entry point to the U.S., and there has been massive cartel violence there over the years. I think it would have been a harder sell for the show to have been stamping their foot down about the cartel violence against boys and men. The woman angle (barely explored this season, but clearly intended to be a big focus next season) is just Hollywood adding of dramatic tension. The show is an excellent show, in a vacuum (how many people know or care that much about the inaccuracies in the portrayal of Juarez, as long as it has a "ring" of truth?). It's widely known as a very corrupt city, and a cartel stronghold, and I'm sure the show is giving a somewhat accurate depiction of how corruption is handled there. Would it have been nice for them to do a lot more research? Sure, but massive inaccuracy should never be a reason to not watch a show that features good drama. Nearly every show is inaccurate in a lot of ways. Homeland is probably one of the most ridiculous shows on TV, as is Scandal, but no one cares, because they tend to be entertaining to watch.

The Bridge is not a GOAT contender but still pretty enjoyable, interesting show if you're lacking stuff to watch.

Seen the first season of the Shield and i like it a lot. Still seems kind of formulaic and predictable (other than the pilot).
Does it pick up and become something greater in later seasons? Or will it be about the same for all 7 seasons (case of the week, oh **** the strike team is in trouble, nope Vic saved us etc).

The reason i'm asking is because many people put this show up there with Sopranos, wire, deadwood as one of the greatest show of all time. So far it just does not seem to be a tier 1 show but rather a tier 2 or 3.
First season of Justified > First season of the shield.

For some reason I decided to re-watch the first episode of The Shield recently, now I'm halfway through the 1st season again. I'd forgotten how entertaining it is. I'm also re-watching Justified with my flatmate. Both are excellent and two of my favourite shows.

From what I remember The Shield does start to drag a bit, especially if you marathon it, as it's a very long show. However it's still very good and there are some great characters, e.g. Forest Whitaker, and plots. It also finishes super super strong.

It's S5 and S7 are incredible, among the best seasons of television ever produced. But it does drag a bit at times in S2 and S3. Definitely worth chugging through.

As a whole, it belongs on the list. It's really something special.

A lot of shows aren't GOAT after 1 season they continue to build.

Wow, great link.

I am really, really tempted to watch the last season of the Shield straight up because of how everyone raves about the finale. Haven't heard a bad word about it, which is amazing.

Final season is only great due to the previous 6 seasons' buildup.

Yeah exactly, it's a fantastic pay off. There would be no sense to skip it all.

I think I'm the only one who gave up like halfway thru the last season. I barely made it thru season 5. I felt like the show never grew after s2, just same old same old rinse and repeat.

Flabbergasting. Glad you stopped because you obviously didn't deserve the payoff.

I watched The Shield in less than 2 weeks and loved it. Thought it was pretty consistent through out. The ending def bumps it up because it's that good.

I doubt anyone here is dumb enough to do it but, since i'm heavily invested in the show by now, please don't spoil anything of the shield.

Btw, Hank from Breaking Bad would have made a pretty good Vic!

I'm 8 episodes into the first season of Sons of Anarchy. It's OK, not great by any means is it going to get considerably better?

Yea season 2 is much better than season 1.

With that said, quite a lot were underwhelmed by season 3 so i guess it's both positive and negative.
Season 2 is probably the strongest out of all seasons though.

If you feel meh about it all at this point though you will probably never love it.

I'm in the same boat. I get that with shows like this it's supposed to be sensationalized and we have to suspend belief to some degree, but things just got so implausible as the show went on that the excellent payoff at the end didn't resonate with me as much as I'd hoped. That all having been said, great performances and guest arcs and some amazing stretches of episodes.
