Started watching Rectify based on the last several posts - I skipped it originally because I misread and thought it was some kind of teen drama

Only a couple episodes in but might have displaced Ray Donovan as my favorite new show of the summer.

It's a technicality, but it wasn't a summer show.

Southland - great cop show. Has a sizeable cult following but never found a mass audience for whatever reason. Ensemble acting is great all around. Annoyed it got cancelled but would highly recommend catching it on DVD.

I think Mad Men does a great job of capturing a time and place. I do feel like it is rather slow and the characters are not that compelling, and (at least for me) the novelty has worn off. First season probably the best one.

GOAT thread/sub forum on 2+2/the interwebz. Can't believe I didn't know this place existed. Well done everyone, pat on the back.

My contribution: Louis Theroux. Any of his documentary series are amazing but Louis Theroux's Wild Weekends would probably be most appropriate.

Well I stuck with elementary. It was worth it.

I didn't really get or like the bit with Irene Adler, different though so credit to them for that I guess.

No idea what to watch next.

Is falling skies or Under the dome worth watching?

Been looking for a new show with Mad Men and GoT wrapped up. Just powered through Lost with the girlfriend and I thought it was pretty boring. Hard to say how much I was influenced by knowing the ending was such a letdown to most viewers. HBO is running the The Sporanos again on-demand by the way for anyone who wasn't aware (although it doesn't appear to be available in HD, wtf) so I'm watching that. Season One ran in July and Season Two just came online today.

Scanning this thread it's looks like there are a lot of shows getting positive attention right now. I'm thinking about giving Rectify first shot at becoming my next show. But I'm not seeing it on demand. What channel was it on and where can I find it now, anyone know?

I'm very skeptical of anything on network television. I can't remember the last show I actually liked (I watched ep1 of Under the Dome and thought it was garbage for example). Although....hmmm....I just noticed that Hannibal stars Mads Mikkelsen, who I'm a fan of. Maybe I'll give it a shot. The rest of these- Arrow (not really in the mood for anything comic booky right now), Bates, Banshee, Orphan, etc.- I'll look into afterwards.

I liked House of Cards by the way. Loved the original starring Ian Richardson (also played Bill Haydon in the original Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy miniseries, awesome actor). Is there a single American remake that beats the British original by the way? Just wondering. I'd recommend giving it a shot.

Does Rectify sound like a good choice for me (strong preference for Mad Men, The Wire, Sherlock, etc. over network stuff)? Any other suggestions?

Shameless.

As for Rectify. I'm 3 eps in and its a high quality show that i would recommend for people who like stuff like Mad Men.

I think you should still try to watch 2 or 3 more episodes at the beginning of the series before doing that, but it's a suggestion.
I like Elementary better than most cop shows. I think Miller does an excellent job. And the 2 of them work well together. Show just works better than most of those type shows for me.

Never seen Sherlock but dying to. Where can u watch it in the U.S? It's not on demand is it? I have on demand but haven't seen it anywhere.

The website I've been using to watch tv shows online for free has recently taken down all of their free links due to people complaining about the DMCA.

Can't finish Breaking Bad unless I get Netflix.

So sad...

Netflix is amazing. Great selection if you use an addon to access US netflix, it keeps track of all your shows so just click on recently watched and resume and you're right where you left off. I have dozens of shows on the go between myself, wife and kids (you can also search a show and hit resume). It's very reasonably priced (downright cheap by silly capitalist standards) and gives you a chance to support a good business (afaict) and the people who make the art we enjoy.

Just pirate anything Netflix doesn't have.

What are peoples thoughts on Nip/Tuck? I never here much of it but it aired on FX and there's 100 episodes. It's on Netflix and just wondering if it's worth it?

One of the original shows that tried to push the boundaries of what they can do on cable. I remember it being pretty good, more so on the early seasons. It has been a while so I am not sure how it holds up to some of the better new shows but I would say it is worth a watch, especially if you have watched most of the top shows everyone says to watch already.

I'm trying to figure out my next show to marathon. Looking for things on Netflix/Amazon Prime/HBO Go.

All time favorite dramas:

Six Feet Under
Lost
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
The Sopranos
The West Wing
The Wire
House of Cards

Other shows I watch right now: The Newsroom, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, Doctor Who, Sherlock, basically AMC/HBO/Showtime shows. I also really liked the original F/X series, though I haven't checked out more of the recent ones

Here's my short list, roughly in order of how I'm leaning:

Oz
Fringe
Star Trek: The Next Generation (I've never seen any Stark Trek stuff, if that's relevant)
Battlestar Galactica
Sons of Anarchy

Any thoughts on the above, or what else I should move to the top of the list?
