Wiig is popular, but I can't figure out for the life of me why. Her characters are creepy. I don't find her funny at all. Enough people like her that's she's a star, though, so I guess you're right.

She is a huge talent. I don't even like her so much, per se, but I can get what a talent she is and that she is is going to resonate with a lot of ppl. I feel the same way about Maya Rudolph.

I really like Kristen Wiig; I think she's great in roles outside of SNL, but I completely agree with you about her recurring characters on SNL--Gilly, the Target cashier, the aunt discussing movies on Weekend Update... they are AWFUL! I literally change the channel any time one of these sketches airs.

people acting like Kristen Wigg isnt immensely talented blows my mind. you may not like her characters, but have you ever seen her mess up? that characted she does where she says "just kidding" or whatever is pretty incredible considering how much she has to talk in front of a live audience like that.

i think she's better than Maya Rudolph, Shannon, Oteri, Gasteyer, all them. and before them i cant even remember a female who stuck in since ive watched the show.

Wigg is damn near Will Ferrell level for female comedic talent. At least in that she leaves nothing behind.

Maya, Oteri and Gasteyer were all amazing when they wanted to be (I would bang the holy living sh*t out of '96-whatever era Oteri). Shannon always bugged me though. She's not bad, but I never liked her characters.

Mary Katherine Gallagher was less funny than Kristen Wigg's worst character, yet it got a movie.

I'd actually like SNL to announce their final season and bring back the best of the best from every aspect of their show. One unbelievable last hurrah and then go away. This is the perfect time. They're not relevant, and haven't been since the '08 election. They're still here because they can be. Just let it go, but go out with the biggest bang in TV history.

Wiig is amazing in Knocked Up

Wow, and really? Seems like it would be more, but $350mill ain't too shabby.

She's a pro's pro & her talent isn't in question. The problem is that [on SNL] I spend a lot of time admiring her skills as a performer, and very little time actually laughing at anything she does. On SNL you can get away with being a little sloppy or occasionally even an awkward mess as long as people find it funny.

If you think back to a lot of classic SNL sketches, they weren't always pretty from a performance standpoint, and even some of the better cast members were inconsistent or flat-out hacks compared to Wiig. Norm MacDonald comes to mind as an example, yet his Burt Reynolds on Celebrity Jeopardy was great. I have a hard time remembering Wiig doing anything that just cracked me up like that. A lot of okay things but nothing I'd honestly call classic. Most of her characters are terrible.

I always thought Wiig was better suited to acting in comedies than doing sketches, having seeing her in a couple of films now there's no doubt in my mind. In fact she could probably do just about anything she wants in performing with her skill set.

how many female characters are classics from SNL? You ever see clips of the "brilliant" Gilda Radner doing Rosanna whatever? That's the opposite of funny. It's easy to say her characters suck, b/c they're fresh in our memories, but seriously, female characters are almost never funny.

I happen to think... and I'll preface this by saying I'm probably the only one on the planet who feels this way... that Garth and Kat (Kim?) are funny. People HATE that segment, but I counter it's not much different than something like "Dog Show" which people loved b/c of Ferrell.

Gilly was funny the first time but only because of Forte and Keenan. The Target Lady was never funny. Lawrence Welk was ok a few times, like I said, i like her "just kidding" character on Weekend Update, who else? Two A-Holes were good, why'd they stop that one? They just ran all her characters into the ground b/c they had a great female for once.

Amy Poehler is one of the best of the past 20 years, who were her characters? that "Rickkkkk" kid? The Bronx talk show host? meh. No funny female characters.

i gotta say, Dratch had more memorable characters than most. That, the Boston couple, the Lovers. None necessarily amazing, but she was definitely solid.

Poeler sucks, dratch is good. 96 oteri i agree with for sure. Of course I was 15 at the time so that accounts for something.

I think it's an SNL problem of driving characters into the ground more than a cast member problem. Especially since most of the female characters tend to be high maintenance/energy, things like Lawrence Welk or Gilly were one off sketches no one would remember them and other sketches would be fondly remembered as a good intermediate SNL sketch.

I agree that female characters have been generally less funny for whatever reason and there are fewer SNL women to talk about. Wiig is probably among the better female cast members in the show's history but that's a much weaker standard to go by. For someone who's been in more SNL sketches than anyone else for the last three seasons straight (by a ways IIRC) I really don't see the show being better as a result. If anything it's been relatively bad.

Sudekdis is a loss but sort of same deal, Samberg same thing (esp like most of the digital shorts but he's had some good skits too). Still might wind up being for the best to get some fresh faces on board. I wouldn't stop with these three either.

Kristen Wigg is arguably the biggest star from this run of the show, and that's never happened in the history of SNL... unless you think Tina Fey/Amy Poehler were the standouts from the previous, in which case, i dont think i can really argue that

Yeah they do beat them to death and I don't blame Wiig for that end of it. They're asking her to basically carry the show every week with characters that weren't great the first time much less the 5th or 6th time. At some point it's up to her to make them work though.

Wiig is super talented, but losing those terribad recurring characters of hers is a huge net positive going forward imo (aside from the just kidding lady obviously)
