This - thought the open and the three mentioned above were all above average quality for SNL. Also liked Carville during the news.

First half-hour was all I could watch. So bad. What's wrong with Lohan's face?

jonah hill was annoying alot during this, but I'm a sucker for J pop american fun time NOW, and Stefon so I liked the episode overall. I also found the coolio bit funny.

I guess Jonah Hill gained back alot of weight? He looked pretty big

The ape skit was the first time in years I can remember laughing so hard that I way crying while watching SNL. I lost it as soon as the ape said he had sex with him. I just wasn't expecting that.

thought this was a pretty great episode top to bottom. I like Jonah Hill though.

Wonder what happened with the Sportscenter sketch. they cut back to the show during commercial and they were setting it up, but it never aired. maybe it was just the back of another set or something

It looked like he's gained back at least 25-30 pounds from when he shot 21 Jump Street. Still a lot smaller than his peak weight though.

I wonder if Fred Armisen is also close to leaving.

Bill Hader mentioned on the BS report that next year is the last of his 8 year contract.

Wait, I thought we were in the middle of a creative rut right now?

man they're hurting. Killam is really good, Vanessa Bayer sucks, and Jay Pharoah is nothing special. When Hader leaves they're toast. I like Nasim Pedrad and Abby Elliot but more because they're attractive than anything. Keenan has to be close to leaving too unless he's trying to be the next Meadows/Hammond.

Are we ready for the Bobby Moynihan/Taran Killam era?

Sudekis, Wiig, Samberg represent probably like two-thirds of the talent on that show right now. If true (sounds believable) that really guts the cast.

Not that the rest are useless and don't have their moments, but meh. And it's not like the people leaving are all-time great cast members either, they're just the best of a weaker lineup. Maybe they'll get lucky and find a boatload of good talent all at once, they've done it before. I'm just thinking back to when some of the bigger names left years ago and how they had talent to promote on hand. I don't really see it.

This season has been as bad as any I can remember. Not even just the cast, but the writing (which is usually not great), and the hosts too. And the budget for musical guests must have been cut in half - look at last year vs this year.

Yeah, nothing sucks quite so much as Gilly. I thought it was a pretty strong episode though until Gilly. Sophia was quite good and amazingly hot!

Bill Hader owns SNL now. He's funny in every skit he's in. Nasim Pedrad, Killam and Moyniham are also great. Samburg is good. Everyone else is replaceable.

Sofia was sooo f'n annoying/loud/obnoxious. Ruined the show. Only time I laughed was the gay shorts commercial and the Zooey sketch.

Hopefully I can still watch Modern Family knowing how much I can't stand Sofia now.

yeah the gay shorts was the best part. the part in the bar with the not gay t-shirts and sudekis leaving so it was just andy with a tank top saying gay was awesome

wiig's drew barrymore impression was awesome too

yeah, sofia was always going to be a disaster in this format. just too specific in what she can do to adapt to sketch comedy. Her fran drescher was especially awful. Cringed listening to her.

Kristen Wiig has been the anchor for the show for a few years now. To label her as replaceable is a disservice. I like pedrad also, but I don't think she's good enough to carry the weight that Wiig has over the past few seasons.

Wiig probably is the anchor but that's more an indictment of the quality of the cast now, I don't think she's irreplaceable. She's more a workhorse utility than anything spectacular. If you did an all-time draft for SNL casts she's probably 3rd lineup if you're measuring by funny.

Supporting that somewhat, she lasted until #167 in 2+2's Variety Show Draft behind who knows how many SNL alumni.

Vergara wasn't terrible, she has no range, but she had lots of energy. It's not her fault they brought back Gilly or put in that awful Armisen sketch.

Bill Hader has a few things he's outstanding at on the show (impressions, Stefon, the smoking Italian interview show guy, the old reporter). Other times he's invisible and practically an extra during skits. He's in that Darrell Hammond/Dana Carvey role the show needs to have filled but it seems like he's used so much less than those guys were . And the cast was larger back then.

I didn't catch that Paul Brittain left the show. I liked his sex instructor bit and the Wyndemere thing. Replaced by... I forget and I'm not looking it up. She's lesbian though and that's all that's important. But still probably a net loss.
