Felt like a weird retcon of Beth's character. Way too early in the series to start inventing crazy backstories, but whatever.

Also, I'm not enjoying Morty being so routinely desensitized to things. Morty freaking out is much funnier.

This episode also really just had two gags they ran into the ground, much like a modern South Park episode. Oh he eats his incest babies, that was like 75% of the jokes in the episode.

The bubble gun was the highlight of this episode.

I dunno, I liked the sentient switchblade.

i'd like to see them move the plot forward with evil Morty but i guess if there's 9 seasons they have plenty of time.

The name of the finale episode is the rickchurian mortydate so I assume that evil Morty as counsel president is going to play a large part.

Could be wrong though.

Yeah, that was what was so weird. The dramatic hook of the episode was Beth coming to a realization that she's a genius sociopath like Rick, but that didn't feel earned, because she hasn't been. She's generally been the straight man, the normal person surrounded by wackiness.

Plus they didnt actually commit. They just went back to a simpsons style end of the ep = the start of the ep situation which unless its a meta double bluff (which it could be) is kind of weak sauce.

Thought the beth episode was really good, but found the mortys-mind blowers episode far too frantic and just generally not very funny.

President fight was awesome, but quality has gone down so much past two episodes.

Jokes are cringy and the emotional payoffs they go for feel forced.

"cringy" really?

I thought it was an underwhelming season finale.

I'm not sure why the Rick-President fight happened.

We should have a couple years of speculating about whether Beth is a clone and whether fly fishing Rick is just C-137 Rick wearing a hat.

Beth clone is the Inception totem all over again.

It doesn't matter if she's a clone or not.

Well it was meta and they explicitly did the thing I was accusing them of doing with a full simpsons reset. So gg I guess.

I actually think they know that the show is close to running its course now. Their meta-joke about South Park already doing a joke is a concession that they're running out of juice to squeeze. Like how many nihilistic jokes can you make about the universe? R&M worked before it was fresh and the ideas they joked about were novel at the time. It was a joy discovering how badass Rick really was behind the geeky labcoat, but now that he's a living god, where do you go from here?

I especially see Justin Roiland getting tired of it, and if he doesn't have the creative energy to continue, I'd assume Dan Harmon will follow along.

Remember in Community when Abed talked about how making a show should be joyous, effortless endeavor? Think that joy is slowly disappearing in R&M.

This seems insane to me. Two weeks ago we were saying the latest episode was a top 5 all time episode. This really reminds me of the Simpsons who made fun of internet commentators saying they weren't funny anymore in season 7(!!).

Personally I don't care about serialization or the show being 'unrealistic.' I watch the show to laugh and I laughed a few times which is all I can expect from twenty minutes of tv. I agree these weren't the best episodes of the series but to say the show is done seems ridiculous. I bet when this show is in season 9 we will look back on these as classics.

The difference in quality between the Simpsons seasons 4-7 and 11+ is staggering. 8-10 are the clear decline phase of the show, a lot of quality but the consistency really starts to take a hit. 4-7 is the best 4 year stretch of any animated show, and it probably won't ever be topped.

It's the nature of art, if Yoko Ono didn't break the Beatles up, and they worked out their ego fights and they stayed together for another 10 years it's highly likely nothing they made would be on the level of Revolver/Sgt Peppers.

Archer, Bojack, and Rick and Morty are easily better than any Simpsons seasons.
