S7E4 "That's Amorte" (the spaghetti episode) was elite.

I can't remember the last time they've had a stand-alone episode which was so good. It had a perfect R&M balance of funny and messed up.

The writer, Heather Anne Campbell, also wrote the S6E5 "Final DeSmithation". That's the fortune cookie episode, another very original stand-alone episode.

This was the type of episode hardcore fans should love. I certainly enjoyed it but I thought it was a bit underwhelming for a lore story.

I didn't think the Rick Prime story would end so suddenly. But, if he's replaced as the Big Bad by Evil Morty, then it should be fine.

Season 8 has begun....without much excitement from fans.

The first episode was okay. I laughed at some of the absurd puns.

But, they've told this basic story before.

On a whim, I looked up when season 9 would begin airing. The answer was last Sunday.

S9E1 had both the strengths which can make the show fun and the weaknesses which have caused the show to stagnate.

Does anybody care about this show anymore?

it got too meta for me, instead of having zany adventure of the week they went into this long buildup narrative stuff that i frankly don't care about

It's fine. Most episodes have their moments and lines that make it worth a watch, but there's maybe one episode a season that's anything close to the wall-to-wall gold we got early on.

It's become just the average show on the DVR where I might forget I've fallen behind and realize I have like five unwatched episodes. I'll always eventually catch up but it's not appointment TV or anything anymore (or in other words, it's your typical show that's gone on for nine seasons).
