Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

Love Michael Cristofer as the ECorp CEO....great actor.

The opening scene with the FBI lady in the convenience store seemed to be like she was interrogating the shop owner over why she hadn't seen his wife lately.

Yeah that was what I thought was a misstep with Slater from Season 1.

Like, after episode 1, you thought Slater was real. After a few more episodes, you started to suspect he wasn't real, and it was like a lock by episode 4 or 5 that he was fake, the audience knew it and we were just waiting for the characters to find out.

Then, real oddly, they threw in some scenes that seemed like they were designed to open the question up again, but we already "knew" he was fake, so those were just pointless transparent misdirection.

I'm hopefully they hit this twist a little cleaner. Just like with Slater, they've foreshadowed the twist pretty hard already, Craig Robinson's character especially. So the audience, even people who didn't read that reddit post, will figure it out in a week or two.

http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/b...en-deeper-into

Thursday, July 21, 1:45pm EST (note - article says eastern standard time, but they probably mean eastern daylight time, everybody messes that up)

Mr Robot will be simulcasting a virtual reality short on Within (formerly VRSE). If you have HTC Vive you'll be able to tune in and watch it live. Or if you are poor, it will also work on Google Cardboard.

This is set to be a one off, watch it live or miss out. Supposedly they aren't making it available to download and watch later. That's a little hard to believe, but who knows. The tech is new enough that I'm not entirely certain that somebody will be able to capture it in a way to make it available for download the same way that a regular online video can be copied/saved.

So, Thursday afternoon, if you aren't doing anything.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

What is a possible explanation for Tyrell & Mr. Robot's scene in the car in season 1 that isn't "****, it's super obvious Slater isn't real, let's throw a curveball"? Not even trying to be immediately critical I just can't think of one that makes sense.

It is a schizophreniac Elliot with Tyrell. Mr. Robot is real, to Elliot, and it was just the first time we saw Elliot completely taken over by him.

I don't think Esmail was ever trying to hide that Mr Robot was just in Elliots head. Most people knew he was long before the reveal, and even this scene.

Assuming that's the case, which is fine, what's the deal with Tyrell & Elliot's scene at the end of ep 9? Tyrell shows up at Elliots place and says this:

"...I know you're behind it, all of it. Fsociety, Colby, the server, All-safe. You're the one constant in a sea of variables. Elliot, now, I don't know what your grand plan is but I need to and you're going to tell me."

Is it just as simple as Tyrell understands that Elliot is a schizophreniac and that this side of him likely has zero recollection of their conversation in the car? It just feels like if Tyrell was talking to Elliot in the car, even if he was his Mr. Robot side at that point, it would be tough for Tyrell to treat the Elliot side like that conversation never happened. Maybe I'm nitting or being dense though.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

That scene was a big problem area prior to the reveal. It might have been a red herring to distract the audience from what they thought, or it might have been a mistake based on re-structuring of the show at some point. It's small in the grand scheme of things, but definitely still notable.

Because the way she was presented in her first scene was very confusing. She's all super friendly and chatty and nice with the shop owner but then is one of those people that doesn't seem to give a **** that there are four people in line behind her whose time she is wasting. I'd tell her to hurry the **** up too. I found her super annoying in just that short scene.

It has a pretty large wiki page with lots of interruptions of the meaning.

At it's heart though it's a play about nothing...

So two references about nothing which means?
she is burning the book.
the book represents the notion that you cannot read deeper into a work of art.
esmail is making it clear that you can look deeper into this show. take nothing at face value

I think the "twist" is that Elliot does actually know that this is all a manifestation.

he doesnt trust us as his audience/friend so he's showing us this world, because **** us. we dont deserve the truth.

All,

Anyone else not really digging the kinda trippy David lynch vibe so far this season?

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

The problem with the show so far this season is that there is no direction.

The first season we were constantly moving toward one goal of bringing down E Corp. This season is split into about four different stories that have no purpose other than "weird, possible dangerous stuff happens."

It's not that the acting is bad or the writing in each individual scene is bad but it seems like we have just been treading water for three hours.

Yeah, I'm done with this show. I tried to stay focused on the episode this week which was extra long but just couldn't do it. All this season has done for me so far is annoy me. There are better uses of my time

I think this show is only for a very niche hardcore audience and I am not one of them. It is very ambitious but I just can't force myself to give a **** about any part of it.

I enjoyed the first episode (although definitely wasn't one of my favorites), but thought this one was a complete mess. I'm not sure why both episodes needed to be extended since nothing has happened yet.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

I'm rapidly losing patience here. If I knew what was happening, it would probably be really cool to watch. Like if I knew he was actually in prison, I could be trying to figure out who's a guard, who's a shrink or warden or something, who's a fellow inmate and who's a visitor. Or similar but slightly different for mental institution. Or whatever else is the case.

But instead, there's all this stuff that I'm just gonna completely forget about and then when the big reveal comes later, it will just be meh and all the cool stuff they did these past few episodes with the extra characters will really have been for nothing and go completely unappreciated.

--

also i dont care if its product placement, Amazon Echo is awesome and I love seeing it on the show - and I even love how the echo in my living room will usually answer the tv actor, in this case with the same response about the sun dying (though mine was slightly behind the tv show, I guess they trimmed a second of dead air.

Agree. Last season at a couple of blah episodes before it got moving though. Still like it more than 'Night Of" so far

I loved this episode...you guys need some patience....he's world building some...enjoy it. Loved Elliot's atheist rant and I'm wondering just what in the hell Ray is doing...very weird and interesting.

Portia Doubleday is knocking it out of the park this season. And I could watch Michael Cristofer recite the phone book and be happy.

Mr Robot has become a tough watch. It is not light summertime fare. Spending too much time in a crazy person's head isn't captivating. The voice over has devolved from understanding the character to True Detective Rust Cohle 'Time is a flat wheel' nonsense.

Do like Craig Robinson.

I hope you're right! I binge watched the first season just before the 2nd season and am hoping I'm falling for actually having to wait a week between episodes bias

New Show- Mr. Robot

Dom,

Solid post, I'm still giving Sammy* the benefit of the doubt. If you know him personally** it wouldn't surprise you that he's going in this direction. Earlier in his career*** it was clear he has a big ego and is the kind of guy who once given some power would let it really go to his head and he'd really try to stretch, perhaps beyond his actual capabilities.

* the director
** you probably don't, though
*** you also prob don't know about that either

Esmail said Mr Robot was supposed to be a movie.. with the big season 1 reveal coming at the 30-minute mark. As one might expect, extending the plot has left a lot to be desired.

I'm really enjoying it, but I agree that the episodes are way too long.

I think in a film, we'd have found out that he's actually in an institution in no more than 10 minutes.

But like the season 1 twist, it's intentionally obvious imo

Episodes are slow but I still love it, every individual scene is fantastic, it's just that the plot has moved slowly first 3 episodes. One of the show its main themes is Elliot's struggle with addiction and being mentally healthy, so I don't mind it too much.

Ray is running some sort of darknet operation and has somehow found out Elliott is a big hacker?

Ray is not in the mental institution right?

Also, agree that they went way overboard with FBI lady being "complex" but I'm starting to like her.
