Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

that opening. Personally, this show keeps delivering 1000% for me. I totally get why it doesn't work for some of you, but I really don't care. Dumbing it down for higher ratings would be worse than just having it get canceled.

Hopefully neither of those things happen and Esmail gets to complete what he's doing.

I'd love to hear the conversation when Sam called Bud Light and USA and asked if they would air a commercial from 1990. Pretty brilliant, glad the remote wasn't near me when it cut to commercial.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

You have to be really dedicated to this show to think that opening was all right (I was also mega tilted by the use of the worst commonly used sound effect in TV and movie history...the double tire screech). USA clearly has no f***s left to give about this show, and are letting him do whatever he wants.

But hey, maybe next week plot advancement? The FBI not stopping every single entrant to that floor is beyond unbelievable.

I would have had hardly any problems with that episode (minus the hack at E Corp) if they had just started off with the scene after he had been beaten up. It's extreme fancy play syndrome no matter how much anyone might have liked it. I know what he was sort of trying to accomplish with the opening, but if that opening didn't kill off its very last non-dedicated audience, nothing will. So there's that. Watching a terribly executed attempt at a bad sitcom is almost as "entertaining" as watching a terribly executed attempt at a real movie trailer in movies. If you liked it, great, you're warped and nothing this show does can go wrong for you.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

The opening wasn't a major issue for me until it went on for 17 minutes. Should've been over in 7 maximum. I did legit LOL a couple of thimes tho so I didn't mind it too much. Once again the plot moved forward at a very slow pace and the show is slowly becoming more and more unrealistic.

Still didn't hate it, but I continue to lose more confidence.

I agree it's getting more and more unrealistic, but I found the episode enjoyable, liked the opening as well.

That was some good television right there. Nuni losing his mind over some weird guy he worked with not trying to maximize viewer numbers or whatever is pretty entertaining as well.

Sure it can. They could make it straightforward thriller that appeals to the lowest common denominator and strip away everything that makes it unique and interesting. Networks do that all the time. If that's the only way we get a Season 3, I'd prefer to not have one.

I would have liked to see Alf eat a cat but fully graphic with blood and cat screaming. I think he dropped the ball there.

lol on both accounts. One, that was not good television largely due to how long the sequence was. Two, I'm actually rooting for the guy to succeed, and am not trying to have him maximize viewers. His viewers were maximized last year, and that low viewership still gave him good results. Now, he appears to be actively trying to turn off nearly every viewer watching the show (I have a good sample size that its biggest fans will have screennames that end in "zak", not sure how he tapped into that crowd). Some people are into watching the most polarizing stuff they can find, you're one of them.

With each week, i think it can't get worse from an accessibility standpoint. But each week there is something new, and this was that on 10. We're in the YouTube generation. The average YouTube video probably has around 2 or 3 minutes before it's clicked away from by most people, no matter how good it is. The core audience of this show is that exact generation. You're going to tell me they want to watch a 17 minute lame azz comedy parody with a straight face? If so, come on. Unfortunately, this is like taking a nuclear warhead and dropping it on his foot. This show has practically zero dramatic tension, because of stuff like this. Some people on this forum don't get the difference between letting a show be itself (Hannibal season 2), and just completely giving up editorial responsibility (Hannibal season 3, Mr. Robot) to make a show/story tight. What you're seeing is probably similar to what a Stephen King book would look like without editing. If you're okay with that, good on you, but you are in an extreme minority. It's almost like the show is above criticism for you, and I'm sorry to say there is a lot to criticize in the last several weeks.

I think you know that's not at all what I meant. You're gonna get a season 3, because this show was nominated for an Emmy for best drama series (it would be unprecedented for a show to get canceled right after a nomination, though Sam appears to like to break all kinds of molds after he steals what he wants from them). What that season is going to be is anyone's guess. I always assumed USA was going all in with Sam this season to let him spread his wings, but I don't think anyone could have anticipated what we're seeing. There is no editorial pen or knife being wielded over there (if there actually is, lol).

What essentially happened at the beginning of that episode was the equivalent (sorry for dumbing it down for the masses) of having a complex and dark movie jarringly put in a 17 minute cheesy cartoon parody right after the conclusion of the most dramatic moment. A "joke" I frequently make after watching dark movies is "I can't wait to see the outtakes after the credits". This was that "joke" realized times 100 (short dose good, long dose bad). Anyone who was on board with the idea with any sense of editorial pen or knife would have loved that idea as a pre-title cold open type of thing with the exact same message. As a 17 minute, oh we gotta protect poor wittle Ewwiot's brain from pain (while dropping a few future plot point bits), it was basically masturbatory filmmaking that could have gotten the same point across in basically 3 or 4 minutes. I seriously was beginning to think they ran out of money and this was their way out, but discounted that because the episode's run time was fairly close to the same length an hour long show would have been without that 17 minute sequence added.

I thought the sitcom opening was hilarious and also creepy. Cigarette burn from Mom such a nice touch. Whole thing was pretty ballsy by Esmail imo.

I love the conceit of the 90s style, didn't even mind how long it was, but it would've worked a lot better as episode 1. For God's sake, we aren't really even making progress at this point.

I'm upgrading the True Detective Season 2 watch level to "Sucking a robot's dick"

Opening was ok but really would have been fine without it. I don't think it added much.

Rest of the episode was good except of course the Elliot storyline which just seems to be wandering. Let's do something with Elliot rather then just waste our time.

The most amazing revelation itt is that nunnehi thinks authors like Stephen King are heavily edited.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

I have to say the first part of the episode made me laugh. Very convoluted but shows the depth of his psychosis and how much control his father had over him. The scene with him and his dad was the best part of this episode. Hacking the FBI was the weakest part. That just feels forced as Angela isn't a hacker and hasn't shown any expertise to do the job then the wifi goes down, LOL.

Was easily the worst episode of this season.

Words, how do they work? This is the second time you have turned my meaning into something it absolutely was not. Just to point and laugh at you over your statement, the original 1978 version of King's, The Stand, was 823 pages. The 1990 Unabridged Version was 1152 pages. Was there heavy editing? I'm guessing probably, since the original cut out approximately 1/4 of it. That was the sort of work I was referring to when I made that statement. Here was what I said with regard to King, and I certainly am not referring to any of his modern work which I haven't read much of:

Quote:

My example was meant to convey someone who has diarrhea of the pen, not to discuss editing technique. Where in my words does it say heavily edited? I said without editing. Mr. Robot is in sore need of editing, not heavy editing, just editing (maybe 15 to 20 percent max). If the makers are actually thinking this show is tightly edited/written, that's even more lol than your statement (based on Sam's tweet about being long winded, I'm fairly sure he knows he's made massive mistakes in tightness with his show).

To close out, here's a link to an interview with an early Stephen King editor. I don't know how book editing works in the modern world, but it sure was a big deal a long time ago from what I understand (this is essentially the process I was referring to):

We need Tyrell back. He was IMO the best character of season 1. I think Ep 1 of season 2 ended with him on the phone with Elliot and now nothing since? Kind of weak.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

It could be that Esmail got the idea of the opening scenes from the movie director David Lynch. In Inland Empire, Lynch has scenes of actors in a living room comedy set that you might see on TV dressed up in rabbit heads saying banal lines and getting fake audience applause. Check out "rabbits Lynch" on youtube for more. In fact, the Mr Robot show now has that dream-like quality of a Lynch movie where there are scenes about the movie inside the movie. I'm a Lynch fan, but didn't expect this treatment in Mr Robot. I thought a good major plots for season 2.0 would have been for F-society with Elliot to fight to take administrative control of E-corp and try operate it in way to benefit the common person or to take on the Dark Army.

I liked the scene where Angela interacts with the FBI agent who hits on her where Darlene and the other guy are feeding her information in her earpiece at the same time. Is she really having lunch with that guy? The interaction of agent Dom with shop owner Kahn seemed odd. What does she think she achieving there except getting a good sandwich?
