There were definitely some unreal moments in The Last Ship but I'm hoping the story is strong enough to carry the show.

Regarding The Last Ship - could they have gotten two more wooden actors to ply the leads than Eric Dane and Rhona Mitra??

Only reason I'd consider watching it, and since it's network, no boobies. So, it's a pass for me.

the second in command of the ship is Jane from firefly. he was great on firefly. on this show he kinda sucks. i am sure that has a lot to do with the writing and direction, but i wonder how much it was to do with the actor trying harder on firefly because he cared more

That said it's still awesome, it just isn't as good as it was.
I don't think any show could have maintained the high bar that it set for itself with the first four seasons. I still enjoyed it quite a bit up until s8 I think it was, where I thought it fell off the mark significantly.

Adam Baldwin is great in everything he does. Odds are he'll end up carrying The Last Ship.

My favorite part of The Last Ship was when they board a cruise ship to get supplies and the one guy gets exposed to the bug. Instead of quarantining him and studying the virus, instead of the guy taking, you know, five minutes to consider the best plan of action for survival...he immediately takes a gun out and blows his head off. To...save the others, I guess.

Jesus, what a stupid show.

hahahaha! that part was pretty great. i'm really looking forward to the next episode and how later in the season they will somehow magically stop worrying about fuel.

there should be plenty of nuclear submarines to talk to too. they go out for months at a time i believe.

I suppose I'm easily pleased but I was quite entertained by the last ship. Lots to like - the best Baldwin, the original Tomb Raider, a badass military boat and the dog from last year's call of duty. Oh and a Russian mole revealed already!

Just cos I'm a nit - you know he isn't a Baldwin brother right? Also Alec Baldwin imo.

Jesus, what a stupid show.
I thought that was the most believable part.

I watched the show last night. I had zero issues with him deciding to do this to preserve the mission and not die fro the disease. It's certainly believable.

Isn't the mission to find a cure? If so, having an active case to test possible treatment and measure outcomes sure sounds like a great resource to aid in the completion of the mission.

They already could have picked up the still-alive passenger if she wanted an active case to study, but they didn't - so either too high risk to bring aboard or she doesn't see value in it. Enough in her opinion to snag a fresh sample of his blood,

I've never been high on all the middle eastern ****, but this new show Tyrant looks good just based on the pilot. Will be tuning in to see how it continues.

Came to ask about Tyrant, I guess people haven't really watched yet?

Any others of the newer FX shows worth watching? The Bridge, The Americans, Fargo? I haven't started any new shows in awhile outside HBO.

You should watch all three of those, in this order:

1. Fargo
2. The Bridge
3. The Americans

Agree with that order. I'm very much looking forward to The Bridge's return.

I have Tyrant but I'm not sure if I'll watch it. It got crapped on pretty hard by the AVClub.

Do you know what the working title of Tyrant was for awhile?

Reverse Homeland, no lie.

Considering how far Homeland has dropped since the seventh episode, I wouldn't at all be surprised if the show sucks. That said, I'm definitely watching it, but probably not until tomorrow at the earliest.

It sounds like the making of documentary of Tyrant would be more interesting than the show. What a cluster****.

That's a long article, and I don't have time to read it all. Did David Yates (the luckiest man in Hollywood) actually direct the Pilot? If he did, I don't have a lot of confidence. His abilities with both emotion and action are very poor, and I figure there is probably supposed to be a lot of both in it. FX was probably pissed they lost Lee, but I don't even see why they thought he would see it through. He's too big of a director to move to TV yet.

There are a lot of talented movie directors working in TV right now, but most of them were either middling or failed (box office wise) directors. Very few would ever make it in the movies, but many of them are top notch at TV. It's part of why some of these shows are so good right now. They're getting movie feels from people who directed "A" title movies (most of them on the low end), on a beer budget. I can't even fathom why Lee would want to make that move. He would hate not being able to spend endless amounts of money and time on a TV show.

I just looked at the ratings for last night's episode, and it had a 0.6 in the 18-49 demo with 2.1 million viewers. That's a very bad sign for the first episode of a series. The bar for renewal is exceptionally low at FX (considering The Americans got a third season after several episodes with a 0.4), but if this show is really expensive, it's in trouble.

Tyrant pilot was decent.

I'm not a huge fan of the lead so far and one other character is probably a bit too over the top (Even though that's what they're going for) but it did enough to keep me interested to see where it goes.
