24 s1
Spoiler:
The scene I just can't get over is the whole airplane series. So, the bad guys went to the effort to somehow hide cord explosive in a fake fire extinguisher, along with a flying suit/parachute for the girl. They then blow up the plane and she flies away. All just so they can steal the photog's ID. LOL, just wait for the guy to come out of the airport and throw him in a van. UGH. Also, they have the guy get numerous plastic surgeries so that he looks like the photographer, yet when the assassination attempt is going down they already have Hard Hat Guy inside the venue. JUST USE HARD HAT GUY TO TAKE THE SHOT

and you gotta love how they make the assassin be naked in the desert. i mean ok. i guess burning the suit makes sense, but why does she have to be naked in the middle of the night in the desert? lol!!

her character is nickname naked mandy, cuz she's always naked

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the thing that really bothered me about 24. Now, it's supposed to be a believable story.

Early on, David Palmer makes a reference to his game-winning shot for Georgetown vs DePaul in the Final Four.

Come on, now. DePaul in the FF?

Almost done with season 4 of OZ, great new stars keep rolling in as others keep leaving in body bags. At least 3 or 4 from The Wire. Very fast pace, there is no fluff.

Wait, dafuq? Your Grandma is into 24?

No, she really dgaf what's on, as long as there is some background noise. She tries to watch but every character that comes on the screen we get the question "Is he a bad guy?". We try to pick things that aren't too bad though. For instance, before we started watching 24 we tried to start Nip/Tuck but it was just too uncomfortable watching the one doc banging away, doing coke off ol' girls back with gma. What's so shocking to you about a gma watching 24 anyway? Seems like a show that's right up her alley? They were big Blue Bloods and NCIS fans back in the day. Seems like similar network crap to me.

24 is much more... torturey than something like NCIS or JAG. It isn't standard police procedural faire.

That's the second time torture has been mentioned. I guess I have something to look forward to! Regardless, it's a network TV show from 20 years ago, she'll be fine. Good call on JAG, that was another one her and gdad watched back in the day.

i'd be interested in grandma's reactions to some of the more extreme stuff jack bauer does

I will report back on that. So far, I think the only thing approaching torture was the threat of shoving a towel down the guys throat in the back of the limousine and who hasn't done that at some point?

season 1 is really mild in terms of torture, killing, violence

jack kills:

day 1: 10

day 2: 30

day 3: 14

day 4: 43

day 5: 39

day 6: 52

day 7: 30

day 8: 38

and he knocks out 89 people total

"According to The Parents Television Council there were 67 torture scenes in the first five series of 24"

Watched another episode yesterday. Not sure where mark's at, so I'll spoil:

Spoiler:
The episode where Jack's family gets away from the bad guys, but the helper bad guy doesn't hang out, and jumps on a bus, bleeding all over the place. Noon-1PM I think.

Ofc the mother and daughter do remarkably stupid things on the way to rescue. Sigh.

Let me guess--now the mom dies from complications of appendicitis (Remeber, she's been having abdominal pain). This sets Jack off on a rage. Since he's killed the main bad guy, he has to hunt down the rest of them, one by one.

Also, I was surprised to see how long Al Leong (the Asian bad guy, with the goatee and long hair) lasted. Seems like he's made a career out of being "bad guy that gets killed".

I write that with no bad intent; good for him to have found a niche and get lots of work.

I think I'm one behind you. That's funny about the appendicitis. That was my call the first time she did the groaning thing. My gf is amazed at how good I am predicting exactly what's going to happen next so far.

i can't stress enough how you should be skipping over the scenes with jack's family.

the show is like 9/10 in scenes with the good characters, and it's ****ing unwatchable with the bad characters.

and you're not missing any important story stuff by skipping their scenes.

While I agree with Jack's family being infuriating, its essential to watch those scenes in S1. Anything post S1 that has to do with Jack's family is very skippable

There are 2 eps in particular that need to be skipped

Watched the coverage of the 2020 Main Event last night.

I was surprised by the number of players (~4 of 8) who were playing unmasked in the US side of the final.

They made a point of saying all players were teste. In fact, the guy who finished 9th tested positive upon coming to Vegas, so didn't bust 9th, but was forced to resign.

Anyway, I don't understand why a player wouldn't take advantage of this. Even setting aside any safety and health concerns, seems like it's a built-in excuse to cover up more facial tells.

Good story on the US winner, and a pretty creative solution to have the ME during pandemic.

Spoiler:
Missed Norm though.

Watched Lupin. Five episodes were released a while back, and another five will be out later in 2021.

It was decent but not great imo, seems way overhyped. Nearly every episode had glaring plotholes and it was so annoying to watch our Hero come up with extremely clever and elaborate schemes to steal jewelry worth 25m euros from Louvre etc yet at the same time fail to account for some very basic stuff. The worst was episode 4 (spoilers)

Spoiler:
Lol @ handing over the only copy of the mega piece of evidence that you could publish at the click of a button (and achieve all your goals while doing so) to a news network owned by the villain

Lol @ the super obvious foreshadowing of the journo lady dying and not bothering to consider protecting her in some way after she's just told you she was followed by the hitman WHO KNOWS WHERE SHE LIVES.

The writers are way less clever than they think. But the lead guy is very good and charismatic, overall it was still a fairly enjoyable watch. It's on Netflix.
