Although I disliked the Quentyn storyline after he died because in the end it was pointless, it is the one storyline I remember the best out of Dance with Dragons. I'd like to see both it and Aegon storylines.

I wonder how many times I'll end up reading Game of Thrones (ie the first book) in my life. I think I have read it 3 times now, always reading the who series when new book comes out. I'll likely read them all again before Winter is released.

I didn't dislike his story line because it ended up failing, I hated it because from the get go it was obvious he was going to fail. Even that wouldn't have pissed me off all that much if there weren't so many other fools errands occurring in book 4 and 5.

I reread the series before adwd as well planning to do it again before the next book which will be my fourth time as well

for those that have re-read: how much did you like Crows and Dragons the first time around?

I feel probably like most people, that book 2 was better than book 1, and book 3 was amazing. and from 4 and 5 were largely disappointing b/c of all the meandering and new characters and such. did people who re-read like those better the 2nd time around, and/or did they like them the first time around?

They are certainly better but if you really didn't like them the first time then you probably won't like them all that much the second time imo. You will catch a few things which will make you smile but still be bored/angry for the same reasons.

I always liked affc although it wasn't as good as the others and enjoyed it more the second time. Thought adwd was by far the weakest and least enjoyable and thought the same the second time I read it (it's the only one I haven't read three times.) I did enjoy it more the second time but that was mostly from picking up on a few things I missed in my rush to finish it the first time and also because I like to try to figure out where the plot is going.

I didn't like affc the first time I read it but it was the book I most enjoyed on my reread. I think it's probably because storm is 100mph and I was expecting more of the same with feast. Once I knew what to expect I loved it, there's so much great story telling in there that I missed the first time.

I can't remember what I thought of Dance of my first read but I hated it the second time, it took me months to finish it as I kept going weeks without picking it up. I still haven't a clue what half the characters around Mereen names are or what they were about.

Show>books. It is known.

Its kinda funny seeing people I know didn't the like some of the meandering pointless garbage in the books bitching that the show is also taking our the meandering pointless garbage they liked.

"Take out meereen entirely, the city where Dany learned to rule, where she matures into being a leader and is about a huge Essos based game of thrones, but don't touch the super important speech of a 7th rate meaningless Lord who took part in a sub plot that added nothing to anything important."

I really liked both AFFC and ADWD on rereads. Mostly for their world building aspects and fleshing out Dorne and the Iron Islands. It sucks that they seem to have cut so many good characters like Victarion and Euron from the show. I'll also be surprised if we get to see the legend that is Darkstar.

I agree. First read I was bracing for/expecting shock bombs like the red wedding, purple wedding, and was somewhat disappointed when nothing like that happened in AFFC or ADWD. On the second read I really enjoyed both, particularly the Dorne and Iron Islands stuff as well as the House of Black and White. I think by the end of the books Arya may end up being my favorite character, if the snippets I've read from Winter are an indication of her character arc.

last 2 books are more like history books.

It's a bit long and annoying but what you learn is really interesting.
People wouldnt whine if there was a big shock here and there to keep their mind off the constant "learning"

And given how badly they screwed up Jamie's character in the show, I think they will really struggle with the book 4-5 materiel, since it's character driven rather thN plot driven

Keed, after reading a lot of what you've written recently ITT, just wanna say :handshake:

I will not be watching this season and I never saw the last two episodes of last season. Really no desire. Maybe in the future, but we will see.

Is it confirmed they are cutting Victarion and Euron in the show? That's too bad, thought they were interesting. Of course some people think Euron and Daario are the same person.

they what

*just read about it. Would be really fun and make Euron/Daario legit characters, while theyre both kind of sidekicks to the mainstory by themselves.

I feel like he probably has prodigious notes on what happens to the point where they could just be released on their own, or someone else could finish the series. And he doesn't have children or much family (his wife seems decent) so there won't be in-fighting to prevent their release and all the fights over rights and what not. (Christopher Tolkien, I'm looking at you).
