Go rent the movie Fresh. I think you'll like it. It has nothing to do with Spike Lee but it's a great little inner city drug movie with Samuel Jackson and Giancarlo Esposito. And there's chess in it for some reason.

fresh is very good.

Just watched the episode. I put off watching BB to watch it along with a long tasty meal when everything is perfect. I put off watching Lost because I'm fed up with it but can't give up so close to the end(?), preferrably grind on the side to not be bored and driven mad.

Anyway, back to this episode. Just fantastic imo. Other than the bday scene (bad) this was a terrific ep. Loved the meetings in Chicken Cousins or w/e. The opening scene was cool & I anticipated something w/ the boy but him shooting came as a huge surprise. Skyler's boss made a bad job acting he as if he wasn't involved. Hopefully Jesse picks it up, he's gotta get his **** together now and get past his buddy's murder. The end rush was spectacular, so f hectic it got me totally pumped up. Sick/stupid timing with the baby delivery (grrrr lol), for a second it seemed like Walt gave up the meeting with Gus' gang to be there with Skyler in the labor, we'll see what happens though.

I agree no open talk about previews.

Spoiler into who isn't in the bodybag?

Spoiler:

This is an excerpt from an amctv.com blog interview with Steven Michael Quezada (Gomez)

http://blogs.amctv.com/breaking-bad/...-interview.php

Q: You and Dean became friends when he moved to Albuquerque. Do you stay in touch now that he's back in L.A.?

A: Yeah, but I miss him a lot -- and I know he misses his golfing buddy. He was really improving his game. But he says he's been practicing, he's ready to come back and kick my butt. My game's improved a lot too, so Dean's in trouble. It's not going to be easy-pickings any more.

Q: What would you like to see happen in Season 3?

A: You know, at the end of this season, everyone cheered at the end of my last shot, then this one crew member said, "You're still the only Mexican on this show that's still alive, brotha!" And I said, "That's right, I'm gonna keep it that way!"

I finally got caught up to all this and this thread is full of every thought I've had since the premiere. One thing people are missing is that the body bag scene specifically points out a smaller person, and the worst thing this series could do is kill off the family. Skylar and the dead newborn are too obvious. I don't believe the series will kill off the motivation for Walt that soon. The family adds complexity and drama. Without that, it's "simply Scarface". With the family it's Scarface Plus, which is the appeal. The pull of the show is that it takes turns you don't expect with the counter measure of regular family life, so I don't think that the body bags will be anything we expect.

The lawyer is the best indication of the direction of the series. He's the connection to the big leagues, he respects the client, even when faced with cliff style death, he simply handles it. I swear, if the lawyer isn't a permanent fixture in the show it will have made a massive mistake. He's the key to becoming Scarface.

When he turned out to be the shooter I was like ooooh snap. Great great scene, directed beautifully.

I also loved the heroin scene (along with its music), the joke about Walt's phone buzzing in the classroom ceiling, and of course the last scene which had me shaking with tension. It's a bit dramatically convenient that Skylar happens to go into labor the moment Walt has his first million-dollar drug deal, but damn if it wasn't intense. Such an insanely good show.

<3 Odenkirk. His reaction shot when he found out it was 38 pounds and not ounces was gold.
Fresh reference. Very nice. I showed the movie to my family and they all hated it, but they're a Mary Poppins bunch, so the darkness of Fresh probably turned their stomach a few times over.

Random: My buddy is watchin all the seasons of How I Met Your Mother (which is actually pretty funny).. apparently Walt is a recurring character in Season 2. So weird seeing him not bald and not acting badass-like.

What, never seen Malcolm in the Middle?

Watching one episode each of Malcolm and Breaking Bad would be enough to confirm that Cranston is a genius.
05-23-2009 , 10:05 PM
Obv I knew he was in Malcolm, just a random 'Walt sighting'. Guess I could have just read his imdb filmography... he's been on a ton of shows (lol everything from Walker Texas Ranger to X-Files to Murder She Wrote).

I hate hate hate hate Cranston in Malcolm. I'd seen several episodes of that horrific show, enough to form the opinion that Cranston was nothing but a mugging, overacting freakshow. When I heard about this new show Breaking Bad a year and a half ago, I was like no way am I going to watch something where this guy plays the lead. All he does is make ******ed faces.

Man, was I wrong.

I still maintain that he sucks on Malcolm, but obviously he is great on BB, which is now easily my favorite show on TV since The Shield is finished. And it's one of the greatest of all time.

--- P.S., I'm saying all this before watching tomorrow's ep, about which L.A. Times and Onion TV critic Noel Murray says, "This Sunday's BREAKING BAD is simply stunning, on multiple levels. Brilliantly plotted, frequently excruciating. Brace yourself."

I disagree about the sucking on Malcom, but, private joker, thanks--you are part of what is right about 2+2.

Malcolm was OK for the 1st season or 2, but it got old and repetitive real quick.

I don't think it's very fair to give someone a hard time for a performance that lasted 151 eps and especially for something that is family entertainment.

For the money he probably made over that time, I wouldn't fault the guy for eating handfuls of his own feces on camera. He gave the people the overacting they wanted and he got paid. Good for him.
05-24-2009 , 09:53 PM
wasn't every character on that show supposed to be overracted?

Anyway, I get surprisingly giddy before each new episode. I haven't been this excited about a show every week since maybe the last season of the Sopranos.
