Wheeeee, turning back the clock tonight.

Werth is my 2nd favorite Phil and the most valuable 1-8 player besides Utley imo, I really really want to keep him. I guess the math won't work out, but why can't we keep Werth, let Raul go, and let Dominic Brown replace Ibanez in left, plz plz plz one time.

I feel like that would give us a large and legitimate window to roll the dice and take the chance on the possibility of a couple more WS's.

seriously jason werth is SO good at this point that hes going to force their hand. they will simply have to keep him out of necessity. The guy is just amazing, hitting for average, power, stealing bags, throwing people out. You guys see him climb the fence yesterday to get that ball in asap? Just a terrific athlete and hes showing all his skill early on this season.

Time to be creative, backload the contract and get it done. gogogo ruben.

Yeah but is he a true middle of the lineup threat, a guy who could potentially go off for 50 HR and 140 RBI every year? Does he have the swagger to be the guy no one wants to face in the late innings of a close game?

I think not. Good thing we locked up the guy who qualifies as that.

you know i personally agree because i love howard. I dont think he needs to be that guy, cause obviously we already have him locked up for 6 years to come. He needs to be exactly what he is, the best protection for #6 money can buy.

especially with dom brown coming into the lineup in time, you just cant have that many lefty bats without werths righty bat in there.

ugh this inning is so ****ty for hamels. Walks the pitcher to lead of the inning, 3 straight balls hit up the middle for base hits and a seeing eye hit that brought in runs 2 and 3

good pitch there with 1st&2nd and no one out to get the k. dont melt down one time.

ugh howard should have turned the dp. i keep wanting to press post but they keep doing **** i want to comment on lol.

sigh 35 pitch inning. 93 not even through 5. with the bags loaded he has to be able to get the #8, esp a lefty bat

Contreras is filthy dirty nasty. Good to see Manuel realizing it and letting him be the set-up man with Mad Dawg on the disabled list with a chair.

Lidge looked awful, but he had a couple good outings before today and then got the slider going to the 3rd hitter he faced so I still have some hope he will have a good season. But both of those balls were homers on a normal day.

I'm not sure the first fly ball was a home run, but that second one would have easily cleared the fences on any other day. I'm still shaky on Lidge, but he's so mentally unstable that if he gets a few saves under his belt he might start believing he's back to his old self. Which hopefully will result in him becoming his old self and being able to use his slider effectively.

But yeah, I usually bash Manuel for how he uses the bullpen, but he looks to be figuring out this group for now. I think the real question is does he stick with Contreras in the set-up role if he excels there after Madson is healthy or does he go back to his old route and go with Madson because that's what the Phils are paying Madson to do?

+1 Contreras, he has been looking great since the end of the season last year with Colorado.

FWIW, Chad Durbin looked awesome today imo.

With Madson on the 60 day DL that one should figure itself out. If Contreras is still a stud in mid July he is going to be tough to replace.
