yeah, i knew it was every sport.

and yeah, ikes is correct.

UM football is, and always HAS been 'cleaner' than osu football in the tressel era.

it's not even close.

At least you have something to be proud of. It certainly hasn't been on the football field.

Based on the fact that UM is currently on self imposed probation and OSU isn't? UM may be "cleaner" but saying it's not even close is obviously wrong. Also, would be interesting to find out how many sanctions UM has.

Apparently if one guy has a record for stealing a pack of gum 10 times, it's worse than another guy who only got convicted once of murder. UM LOGIC FTW!

our heisman trophy winners didn't steal gum.

i know he's a youngstown guy (which is honestly a reason why i assume with no evidence that he's not above water 100% of the time...trust me. anyone that spent time here knows how to get down/talk to the athoritaaaaays) but i have always hated him. never owned a ysu sweatshirt (ask anyone from here my age if they didn't. i didn't.) never liked the cat.

he just projects himself as this overarching character who represents only good, sings songs and loves the band and it's a full plate of ********. no one cares around here if i point that out, and i get mocked. only a handful of osu fans will even listen to their Darth leader being talked down upon, it's silly.

he's slick. he can talk out/deflect criticism. he's a ********ter...who just happens to live in the best recruiting area north of the mason-dixon.

everything will eventually catch up to his pasty white ass unless he leaves before. and even then, it probably will. only he knows.

though either way we all will find out, right??

leave early? guilty.

hang in there? publicly hung.

choose wisely.

You spew a lot of nonsense normally, but this is getting into functionally ******ed hater territory. He's a Youngstown guy? as in he moved there at 33 to take a job. Myself, and most anyone with a brain wouldn't call themself a (insert city) guy if they lived somewhere else until they were 33 and then moved to (insert city).

Jim Tressel consorting with a "Youngstown'' element is as stupid as the idea of Jim Tressel rolling with a tatoo parlor owner. If you knew the man, it's absurd. Sure he brushed up against guys MLB and the NFL deemed as worthy owners, but the line in Youngstown at that time was always blurred.

As someone from the area, you should know better than anyone the level of corruption at that time in the area, and the impossible task of keeping a constant eye on 100 young men. You had guys who owned MLB baseball teams, shady land developers, and gangsters, etc. trying to co-op local kids; that's a pretty tall order for a guy coaching a 1AA team to compete with in the most vioent and crime ridden city per capita in the US.

As far as to the rest of your extremely insightful drunken psychobabble, you don't know jack as to who the man is. You don't have a clue. He's a good man, someone I'd feel more comfortable with teaching my kids rather than someone who like yourself who spends his time making drunken internet posts containing 99% drivel. If that person was teaching my kids, I'd be concerned as it shows a lack of logic and restraint.

Good to know you've spent time pondering the hue of Tressel's ass.

little bit.

though it's more that people think the Senator is somehow *better* than other coaches.

i will say that more and more osu fans are starting to see the light around here.

which obviously means in another year or two you guys will have someone better ugh.

p.s. best part of that killa cam interview was him saying 'doggie'. i don't know why people keep posting that pic without the 'doggie' at the end. "you mad, doggie" was basically the highlight of ever on fox news.

yeah I think by now most fans are just frustrated by tressel more often than not. He's still recruiting decently and has won 7 straight big 10 titles, and keeps beating michigan, though. Until any of those things change he'll be the coach around here.

Sort of like the TP situation, at this point I'd just about be ready to move on if tressel did in fact step down after the bowl game. 2002 was ****ing amazing and 2006 was (mostly) awesome, but aside from those two years every OSU teams seems very similar, talented enough to beat just about anybody but slightly behind the curve wrt coaching(offensively anyway). I just have a really hard time seeing the stars align again the way they did in 2002.

wow i'm usually more cynical than most ---- but i have to ask osu fans what do you want? the guy has won 80% of his games... are you really wanting more? you really think tressel leaving wouldn't rock the program? that's like getting AA in vs KK aapf and whining that you wish you were more of a favorite. don't be greedy.

i'll take 80% for the rest of my life so long as every once in a while it includes 13 or 14 straight during an entire season

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel met with his players on Sunday night and told them that there was no truth about rumors he was stepping down.

Gene Smith, the university's athletic director, appeared on 10TV's Wall to Wall Sports on Sunday night and said that the rumors that appeared on a blog on Christmas Day were false.

"Jim is not stepping down," Smith said. "He is not going to be terminated. They're just not truthful. I don't know where they originated -- who the original author was -- but they're certainly not true."

The original report that was posted on the Chicago Now Web site, said that Tressel would step down after the Buckeyes play in the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas on Jan. 4.

Some said the tone of the blog indicated that Tressel was being let go.

"(Tressel) actually announced to the team that unfortunately for them, he's going to be their coach," Smith said. "He kind of made a joke out of it and said that obviously the rumors were out and he wanted them to know they were just rumors so they kind of laughed it off and moved on."

The team met after taking a few days off for Christmas. The majority of the team was scheduled to arrive in New Orleans on Wednesday to prepare for the Sugar Bowl.

Last week, the football program was rocked with news that five players, including quarterback Terrelle Pryor and three other starters, were suspended by the NCAA for five games next season for accepting improper benefits.

The players, however, are eligible to play in the Sugar Bowl.

The violations included selling memorabilia like Big Ten championship rings and accepting discounted prices from the owner of a Columbus tattoo parlor, 10TV News reported.

The university is appealing the length of the suspensions. Smith said that a six-member NCAA committee would meet to discuss whether to reduce the appeal.

lolz part in bold.

I don't think it's so much what I want with tressel/new coach. You obviously can't argue with the results. To be honest i think I'm just getting bored. I think 10 years of a tressel run program is just starting to drain on me. A large part of that is probably a result of Michigan, and to a lesser extent the big ten as a whole, being down.

Don't get me wrong, I'm nowhere near calling for his head. I don't think there is an "available" coach out there I'd replace him with ATM. I just always saw him stepping down sooner rather than making it a 20+ year stint at the school. I guess I've just prepared myself already for a regime change at the program, and if it were to happen a week from now I'd take it relatively in stride.

Ideal scenario would be Tressel coaching out his current contract through 2014, winning one more national championship, stepping down to an associate AD position, and Urban Meyer deciding he wants back into coaching in 2015.

big 10 as a whole being down? i disagree.

tressel always said he wouldn't be coaching @ 80 like jopa, but i never figured he'd leave after < 15 years while still young, or in a very sudden manner like the rumors suggested.

i also think he's in line to take gene smith's job over after he retires from coaching.

also, be careful for what you wish for - i'd rather win 80% of games in a boring manner than win 70% but look "flashy" in the wins.

Big 10 has been terrible the last 6+ years. Whether or not it's always been that much a joke is another story.

The problem with Tressel is he can always beat the terrible teams and screws up in the big games, sans Michigan. He brings in such great talent and keeps it under control, and that's how you get a really high level of success. But his basic mistakes in the big games has cost us easily 4 big games in the last 5-6 years. I'm not sure anyone else would do any better, though, everyone seems to be dumb with some of this stuff.
