I'm indifferent. If he's gonna be gone 5 games, whatever, might as well just move on. It really depends how well Guiton steps up, or if we play Bauserman and all. Pryor is not really fun to root for, comes across as a spoiled brat, and just always finds a way to look bad. It will be interesting how he reacts to this. I'd like to see him grow from adversity, but when has he ever done that?

It's a necklace players get for beating Michigan

They used to be rarely given out, but now they are pretty common.

I'm kind of like this as well. I never really hated pryor, but he's gotten more and more frustrating to watch and less likable as his career has gone on. He's not steve bellisari by any means, but if i woke up tomorrow and TP was no longer on the team for non-program damaging reasons I'd pretty much just shrug it off and eagerly anticipate the QB battle in the spring/fall. I'm more disappointed to hear about Herron, TBH. always loved him.

that said, i think these rules about selling memorabilia are kind of dumb. Its not like they sold these rings at a huge markup. I really don't care that much about them not caring about tradition as much as the fans/other players do. I don't look up to players anymore as some sort of idols who share all my values, they're people who often times are less intelligent and likable than non-athletes. So if they want to sell a big ten championship ring and some gold pants, i think they should be entitled to that and not be breaking NCAA rules in doing so so long as they don't charge huge markups to cash in on their names(obviously this isn't the case though, the players should have known the rules and thus I have no real problems with the suspension[other than LOL at not including the bowl game in the suspension]).

OSU's forthcoming appeal will have a lot to do with whether TP stays or goes pro, imo. If they can get the suspensions down to 3 games I think everybody but Posey comes back. If not I can't really see TP staying just to play 7 games(if he doesn't have to win his job back at that point). Kind of a wierd suspension length, imo.

Gold pants. my brother actually has a pair of these, he worked for the team in the 90s as a student and got a pair for the 1998 game.

I'm less pissed at Herron more than any of them. He only sold his jersey and shoes. Obviously it was a mistake and he should have known better, but it's the least bad offense of them all. Herron seems like a good guy.

Are there going to be any senior captains next season on offense?

Gold Pants: In the beginning of the UM/OSU rivalry, Michigan beat the Buckeyes (and everyone else for that matter) every year. The OSU coach (dont recall which one or which year) told his players that those Wolverines put their pants on the same way as everone else, one leg at a time. And that if his players beat Michigan he would give them gold pants. That ended up being the charm that is worn on a necklace. Thats how the gold pants tradition started and they are given to the football team every time they beat Michigan

Any player who receives his gold pants and thinks "I should sell this" really shouldn't be on the team. Also it's not like these guys didn't have anything to do with the B10 championship rings they sold, they were starters on the teams that won them. **** those guys.
exactly - spitting in the face of tradition is the worst part. these guys are idiots and there is no defending them. TP is not a buckeye. he's a punk kid from PA who never dreamed of playing at OSU. good riddance imo.

agreed - however this precedent was set by the NCAA specifically. the talk radio dorks in cbus were talking about it. the NCAA considers the bowl games "special" therefore they often enforce penalties the following season. by "special" obv they mean "very very profitable."

there is no defending this garbage. these kids shamed OSU, their family names and more. they all should just be kicked off the team imo.

also - all of this "pay NCAA athletes" garbage needs to stop. what do their parents do w/ the $ they had been saving for 18 years when they get a full ride? shouldn't that $ be plenty for books and spending cash? and if their parents didn't save... why not get a student loan? hell, i'm still paying off my loans and i sure as isht wasn't an athlete...

Something tells me that the majority of OSU players don't come from families who have been saving money for college for 18 years.

fair enough. and you could say this about most NCAA athletes, just like most NCAA students;

what is so hard about getting a student loan? i had two.

In their defense it was the year that they shared with PSU after losing HU so it probably didn't hold the same prestige for a player as an outright BigTen title.

Soooo...there's a rumor out that Tressel is out after the bowl game? I can't imagine this actually happening though and I'm not putting much (if any) stock into it. I've never heard of this source so I don't expect this to hold.

"On Christmas Day, two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities confirmed that Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas."

No chance that other universities would have ulterior motives suggesting that Tressel is leaving OSU. He worked his whole life to get to this point, and is really at the pinnacle of his success, I can't see him leaving now. If he does quit I would say 90% chance Dantonio is the next coach at OSU. At least I hope he is haha.

even if the guy is completely making everything else up (i'm assuming a COMPLETE fabrication), seeing this:

Quote:
Ohio State has one of the largest compliance departments in the country, yet they have reported 375 violations to the NCAA from 2000-2009, the most in the country.

Early in Tressel's tenure at OSU he had to deal with the Maurice Clarrett debacle, and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith was suspended for two games for accepting money from a booster. The latest violations are just another dark page in the recent history of the Buckeye program.
makes me satisfied that someone other than myself realizes the honorable Senator Tressel may not be as clean as his sweatervests..

That's not the football team, it's every sport. Ohio State has more sports than just about any school offered, more chances for violations. It could very well be a lot more being reported due to strict guidelines.

Hilarious some asshat with a blog can report whatever he wants.

So, let's just make **** up instead of making the easy and obvious conclusion. What, exactly, do you think they are reporting that other schools don't?

The more sports excuse is another canard as well. We both know it's highly likely that the violations will be centered on revenue sports.

They could be more aware of things and have things under better control. Other schools may be completely unaware of the violations that might be occurring.

I do know that 25% of the violations came in 19 of the sports, 75% were in 17, so while a lot of them are likely to be based on revenue sports (which also have the biggest rosters), a lot aren't. They have 2x the sports other schools have, and that's a huge possibility for more violations. Ignoring that fact is silly. Breaking it down further is important to know who is to blame.
